I was at that game, Lidstrom already had one point that night, 999, and i started freaking out. When he tallied his 1000th, i lost it. All the people around me thought i was insane when i started freaking out.
Yeah kinda of impossible to put anybody above Orr. Lidstroms career stats are GP: 1494 G: 253 A: 855 PTS: 1108 +/-: 429, which is of course outstanding.
Orr had a much shorter career, knee injuries, GP: 657 G: 270 A:645 PTS: 915 +/-: 597. Less then half the games played, more goals, not so far off in points and a plus minus rating that is totally incredible. Not to mention a legendary Canada Cup performance.
Lidstrom is great smart player that put skill above brawn, arguably best of his time.
@Kariakas Think of the facts that Bobby Orr had advancements. Goalies had smaller pads and equipment in hes time so goalies rather let goals in than hurt themselves, the goals was slightly bigger. Overall players was not very skilled at orrs time as today with all theese stars like Iginla, Sakic, forsberg, Sedin Twins, Chara, Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos and MANY more so that makes Lidstrom better than orr in my opinion but both are FANTASTIC defensemen
