  • @ andylabolle: You are totally right. Schulz is an inspiring, caring, brave, and obviously effective leader.

@ detractors: please learn about the Starbucks story before your criticize. It is amazing, and it has touched a lot of lives in a good way, from the farmers receiving fair trade wages to the part-time employees receiving ownership shares and health insurance.

  • Howard Shultz is far from anything you even can know. this year he took a substantial pay cut to save partner jobs, and also held a managers conference in New Orleans. not for the beautiful view. so that he could pour over 50 million dollars into a recovering economy. he also took the time to have all of the managers put in over 50,000 hours of community service while in New Orleans to help rebuild their lives. He is an outstanding CEO and an even better person. its not just coffee its Starbucks

  • Has Starbucks ever thought about a reality tv show? I know alot of stores have very interesting stories/drama. I think from another partner's view it would be entertaining to watch, but if you have never worked for Starbucks you may not get it as much.

  • Consider this! Starbucks is one of the best examples of Capitalism that there is, but all the people that hang out there despise Capitalism. They sit around drinking their $10.00 brew's,reading the New York Times, denouncing Capitalism all the while patronizing one of the best models of Capitalism ever. Amazing!!!!!

  • "Just to get a trendy logo"? If you value coffee at all, you wouldn't dare to say that. You may be able to get a deathly cheap cup of coffee at McDonald's or 7-11, but the robusta, weak strength is such a compromise for what real coffee lovers value to the core. If we are going to spend our money on coffee, it's going to be the finest coffee in the world, and Starbucks (Il Giornale) has been perfecting it for 38 years. Do your research, then debate.

  • I was hooked on Starbucks but have slowly weened myself out of having to have one ever day, 3x a day. The only problem with McDonalds is that they don't have soy milk and those of us who are lactose intollerant...they're drinks are not dooable. In addition, their's are way too sweet.

  • i have gone to Starbucks for 4 years

  • As for myself, Starbucks holds a lot more equity than just it's coffee. Now, wether or not Starbucks has the best coffee is completely up to you, but I am not sure the inde coffee shops or Mc'd's have the social and moral responsibilities. Yes, McDonald's has their Ronald McDonald house, but I haven't seen my local McDonald employee doing volunteer service or supporting their customers on a personal level. Starbucks employees will move mountains for anyone. They definitely have for me before

  • very true. I love everything from starbucks, their staff is super awesome. employees from mcdonalds just roll their eyes at you and smack their lips at you.

  • "If you live here in Seattle, I challenge you to go the indie coffee shops and try their coffee. We are spoiled in here in Seattle, and don't know how people here in town would even go to SBUX when all the indie coffee shops have way more superior coffee than SBUX."

wow...that's not snobbish at all....see there's something that you all forget. starbucks has a heart. if you'd look past your biases you'd see that starbucks actually gives a damn about their customers and the whole world in general

  • o and islandbee....how is it that you think we're cocky about our coffee when you come on here and sound more snobbish than anyone who's posted so far?

"I live in Seattle, so I know the difference when it comes to superior coffee and coffee that is just mediocre ala Starbucks."

  • Hello to all my friends! The little store that I work in (#3420, Santa Nella) off interstate 5 in central California is representing it! We can't wait for the ad campaign. What the ads say is what we deliver, EVERYDAY, for our customers! Keep up the awesome work! :)

  • I've enjoyed s'bux, generally, but I enjoy other coffee shops too. I usually make my own at home.

If s'bux had compostable cups, I would be a lot more willing to purchase coffee when I'm out in the world without my own reusable cup!

  • i've been a partner for 5 years.

people need to stop being intimidated or stop giving in to all the stigmas that the public gives starbucks.

alls i know is that in my store we genuinely love serving our customers, and i haven't been to another starbucks (well, outside IL) where i feel like i'm mistreated or ostracized.

  • I am a partner who has been with Sbux for over 7 years now and am very passionate about the company and what we stand for. Every company goes through changes and ups and downs, sbux is no different. The thing is Sbux is always striving to be and serve the best. Sbux as a company has a HUGE heart , they truly care about their employees, they do so much to invest in the lives of everyone they touch. As for the price, if you just want plain old coffee, it's only around 2 dollars.

  • SBUX has been referred as "McCoffee" here in Seattle and now MC Donald's is pulling the carpet right under SBUX. I laugh at all the SBUX loyals that come here saying how superior SBUX coffee is. If you live here in Seattle, I challenge you to go the indie coffee shops and try their coffee. We are spoiled in here in Seattle, and don't know how people here in town would even go to SBUX when all the indie coffee shops have way more superior coffee than SBUX.

  • I'm sorry, but it's a frickin' cup of coffee. You're making it sound like some sort of charity drive. You guys mentioned price like ten times in this video and it's clear what's freaking you all out. Someone else is challenging your turf and is offering a similar (I didn't say better, so chill out...) drink at a MUCH lower price. This is not "a time for Starbuck's to tell its story", it's "a time for Starbuck's to charge a reasonable price for strained "bean juice"!

  • I strongly disagree. Starbucks has become much more than just a cup of coffee. I hear a lot of people criticizing loyal Starbucks customers. Yeah, you pay more money, but not just for the coffee. You pay for a place where employees know your name and treat you much better than they do at McDonalds. You pay for an environment where you can bring in your laptop and get some work done. Try doing that at a fast food restaurant where they are trying to attract kids as much as adults.

  • I agree. this video is so boring though. I wouldnt by fast food lattes. seriously?---lattes from the machine?--no thanks. I wouldn't change. i'd rather not have lattes instead of buying it from places like McDonalds. I like real lattes like Starbucks'.

  • Five bucks is a lot to pay for the same coffee you can get anywhere else for a buck just so you can feel all hip and better than the next quy. Personally, I don't care. In these times of Swine Flu, I don't trust anyone making minimum wage to handle my food or drink. It's just not safe.

  • lolz times ten at WiZSOC's comment.....dude im sorry to burst your bubble if no one has told you...but...THE SWINE FLU IS NO MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE REGULAR FLU!!! but someone as uneducated as you wouldn't understand....

  • Starbucks - kudos for putting a stake in the ground, but I am a shareholder and I still call BS on these claims. If you want to tell a better story, then find me the employees in Starbucks who truly care about making great coffee and show them doing it - let them explain their knowledge and passion. Let me see their satisfied customers. And then make sure that you have at least one of those people in every one of your stores.

  • Perhaps sales would be better if partners gave a shit. Paying them slightly above minimum wage doesn't help. Make ridiculous changes all the time doesn't help either. If your worker's morale is low, customer service will suffer.

  • If you work with partners around the world, work with neighborhoods and modify your look to fit historic buildings and/or neighborhood preferences, etc., how can you say "compromise leaves a bad taste"? You are stepping on your own positive message with that phrase.

I understand that you mean that a customer should not have to compromise taste for price by purchasing from McD's, but the term has a connotation far beyond that.

"You get what you pay for" is truer to corporate values.

  • I love the coffee, the attitude and lifting the human spirt, but man, you can make better oatmeal cookies out of cardboard. What happened to the bakery?

  • mcd's coffee is cheap, but 90% of the time, its not done right. they manage to miss something every time i go. i try to avoid going to mcd as much as possible.

  • This is a great way to show that how much people should know how important starbuck really is. I will do my best to spread the word to other people^_^

  • Question!! You dont really read all of your comments do you? Thats like many hour job for each video!

  • With the limited hours we're getting, there aren't enough partners on the floor, and our customer service and speed is suffering. :/

  • i really like these ads but I have to tell you that this video is bad. The mini focus group and all the talk that's going on is way too self-serving. Good maybe for shareholders but the general public should see right through it. McDonalds, Tim Hortans and other coffee suppliers are just as good if not better. I'd just lower the prices to compete.

  • mikeinhalifax, you saying mcdonalds coffee is just as good as starbucks is likes saying that mcdonalds or any fast food place for that matter is better than a 5-star restaurant......do you have taste buds?

  • zeragon7, Starbucks is not all that, when it comes to coffee. There are so many better beans that are out there. When blind taste test are saying the fast-food/donut shops taste better than Starbucks, it says alot about them. I live in Seattle, so I know the difference when it comes to superior coffee and coffee that is just mediocre ala Starbucks.

  • islandbee, just because a lot of people have tastes for weaker coffee doesn't mean starbucks isn't quality. whether people like the taste or not, it's quality controlled coffee. mcdonalds probably just orders whatever beans they can for the cheapest they can. jee which one wins in quality.....thats really hard!

  • Well, with all those hours that store managers are cutting down, there's no way we can provide that satisfaction to customers. All i hear from customers are complaints complaints and more complaints about the speed of service due to the fact that we never have enough people on the floor!

  • What is this "real story" people keep mentioning? None of those slogans are anything people haven't heard before. How about: "We won't have to make your coffee again! We'll get it right the first time!"

I'm an ex-barista and love the company but it just doesn't REALLY listen to people's concerns. Prices are high, food is bland and the interior designs are really boring.

  • You sound a little bitter. Sour grapes perhaps?

  • Great job Howard! Yes, it certainly is time for us to tell our story about how much we care for what we do as Partners. We help start millions of people day with a great cup of coffee.

  • What I also think is funny about this video is that it's a video made for stock holders and yet they try to make out to be something that makes Starbucks looks better without addressing any of their real problems like the hygiene issues of some of their stores like leaving liquid contains out without covers or how the "barita's" utensils aren't even washed and just tossed into sinks causing a rancid taste in the drinks.

  • By the way, your people out here at the Westlake Village, CA Starbucks are the best! I'm there 7 days a week and they always have big smiles and great service.

The only downside is sometimes the line is out the door! But it's always worth the wait. :)

Thanks and good luck with your new ads.

  • I watched this again and I really get the feeling that Starbucks is taking a lesson from Marriott hotels. In the service industry, you really have to value the people who make a direct connection with your customers everyday. This is very smart of Starbucks and I hope it pays off for them. Put more value on the employees than on the customers because they are taking care of your customers. That's just smart business.

  • I have a lot of respect for this type of advertising. It seems like a sincere effort for a company that has really been struggling in a tough economy and with tough, new competitors.

For 10 years I was a chef for Marriott hotels. Then, I got into design and I now have my own advertising company. This advertising campaign really reminded my for Marriott. Marriott is a great company because they make a sincere effort to engage all employees in their company. Looks like Starbucks wants to do this.

  • No matter how many "campaigns" they come out with, that won't change their horrendous prices of coffee. I stopped going there on a daily basis because you just can't afford the amount they charge with this economy. I admit I go there when something new comes out but that is the length of my visits now.

  • Bring back the luxury/premium manual machines from the 90s, your quantity driven superautos make the coffee taste burnt... With that said, the Starbucks ads are right: A Cheaper cup of coffee DOES come with a Price...

  • Howard, you did it again! But it this time it was hi time that Starbucks told the public the real story, and why you are admired all over the world. There is now other place on earth where you can find the best coffee, the best relaxed atmosphere and the most dedicated partners! I wish all of you the best! You deserve it, from Brazil

  • Any Canadian reading this will know what I mean when I say that people who think Tim Hortons is real coffee, don't know that it's pretty close in composition and flavor with paving tar. And then there's Second Cup where they believe that flavored oils are the way to go. Geography IS flavor. Starbucks is where they are today because of a superior product and an ASTOUNDING vision from the management. Good work Howard.

  • It's about damn time we start advertising. i just saw a bunch of NesCafe ads countering VIA in the last two days and almost lost it on the train!

  • yea she is right its not 4 bucks the espresso i get from starbucks is around 2 bucks

  • The posters on the table are in some of the shots and not in others....same with Howard's coffee cup while at pike place. It seems like they definitely spliced a bunch of takes together to make this impression. That said, I love starbucks and all it has done for me!

  • I agree, time for Starbucks to get in the game. Their lack of presence in advertising is very noticible. If they don't tell their story who will?

  • I'm a Starbucks drinker (Vancouver, Canada) and I think the ads are more like how *I* see Starbucks - a place that is about coffee and community. I have two regular Starbucks joints I go between and both of them have wonderful people behind the counter that help perk up my mornings. Great coffee, but more importantly, great service.

I'm finishing up my MBA in a couple of months here and I sincerely wouldn't mind throwing my hat into the Starbucks employment ring if it were at all possible!

  • Starbucks should have commercials on the TV! Commercials that really tell the story of what Starbucks does to get the beans... what they do to ensure a Starbucks cup of coffee.

  • Thats so cool. I've been a partner since 2004 and am excited to see where the company goes.

  • Great campaign! Like it...

  • I'm a partner from Connecticut and I'm SO exited for this! About time!

  • agreed, back to how it used to be. focus on customer service and not sales or pairing items

  • what does Wade say from 3:05-3:08 right before he drinks his coffee?

  • I love the new campaign. I'm really looking forward to see it unravel into great extents.

  • Wade seemed chill the others seemed a bit stressed talking to Howard. Amy pwned with her comments. Jessica seemed like she really wanted to give the right answers. Mike studied and repeated what he was told, he is an asm and all. Nicole was quiet. this reminds me of the people in my store, lol

  • Let Starbucks tell their own story! Love it!

  • Btw, actually I'm also a partner from TAIWAN! ^^

  • whats up Howard!!!
