@GaragebandandBeyond what mixer do i need in, CAD M9, CAD e70 and Samson C01 to record at the same time? i dont want you to tell me that my question is answered by saying '' watch the video blah blah blah'', btw, i made the CAD m9 instead of CAD trion 8000 cause its more expensive but does the CAD M9 act like the CAD Trion 8000?, answer it by replying in this comment :D
Lewin, Did you try applying some equalization to each of the mics to see how it sounds. i.e. Cutting down some of the low frequencies from the little mic, and cutting down the highs from the Cad mic? It would be interesting to hear how much "stereo" separation you would get, or how it sounds in general. Also, to other youtube's, please download this vid in HD to get the best example of the sound quality Lewin is giving us. Thanks!
the large and small diaphram microphone combination is great! makes your piano sound like a really really good piano (reminds me of some really good yamahas)! thank you for sharing this with us! ;)
Sounds great! What did your mics go into? Did they go straight into a DI Box then the computer, or did you have anything in between? Also, if you're recording a piano that isn't upright, where do you put the mics? Thanks for the great videos!
I like the way the Baldwin opens like that. I had an old Wurlitzer console, that had that open flap like your talking about, but you could still expose the hammers and strings by taking off the front panel completely. For folks that have a spinnet (an upright under 40") I think you can only have the top up.
@ttumoeg Yes, but it is considered a percussion instrument, which is the point I was trying to make when talking about the "hammer sound" being an important sound.

Where should I place the mic if I only got one mic to record with? In the middle?
Thank you for your useful vids =)

@FaebuBucher You'll have to experiment, but yes, starting in the middle is a good idea!

a piano is both, percussion and string. but its "proper" term is a "keyboard" instrument.
