  • Sad to think that Mr. Cub never got to the World Series. Hopefully the current Cubs can get there for him before he moves on.

  • Kobe is the only player in the NBA i can associate with this intro because he was a star during those days when they played this theme song. Everyone else is gone. =(

  • @waterjordan2 same here, he was the only player now a days other then fisher and a few others who played on nbc games.

  • A little irony in this was a Bulls-Cavs game from 1991, the only time in a ten year stretch from 1988-1996 in which Cleveland missed the NBA Playoffs.

Cleveland was a frequent foil for the Bulls in the Jordan era, though not this year (in fact, they met in the playoffs the following 3 years)

  • I can tell that most of the ppl commenting on this vid are from the 1990s because when they post things like "NBA on NBC was the bomb" and the "That music was off the hook"

  • Props to the accuracy on this one- it was indeed Jordan's year.

Excellent timing by NBC when viewing this clip.

  • don't really do this but 1 person is fucking stupid

  • goosebumps

  • Does anyone know the name of that piano song playing in the background? If you do, please tell me....

  • @WorldOfSnakes John Tesh. It's called Bastille Day. Sorry for earlier post saying yanni lol.

  • @robat227 Thank you very much.

  • The Boston Celtics is the only team that plays tough defense. I loved New York's rivalries with the Bulls and Pacers. The Knicks didn't fratenize with opposing players before the game. They didn't dance. They rarely let somebody have a free pass down the lane. LeBron James and Dwight Howard need to quit these stupid pre game routines. Hopefully Tom Izzo will take the Cavs job. He won't tolerate the dancing.

  • @aamorri1 My opinion: the 2003 draft takes NBA as a friendly game with no pressure, it's like having fun with friends. Previous drafts weren't like that.

  • "Mr. Cub would never be Mr. World Series."

Or any other Cub player afterward for that matter. lol

  • abbott

  • abbott

  • This was the era where heroes were born not corporate made.

  • what year is this?

  • @wilcox24 The 1990-91 season.

  • O.J..... tee-hee

  • Not winning the championship was the worst thing to ever happen to OJ Simpson.

  • I bet Craig Ehlo still has nightmares about that shot.

  • Intros like that are part of the reason why the NBA on ABC/ESPN will never live up to the bar set by the NBA on NBC. Hey, you got Monday Night Football on lock. Be happy with that.

  • By far.....,handsdown...the mostest awesomest intro ever,

  • It's a shame that Lebron james and Kobe Bryant copied Jordan's move and charisma. These guys wanna be like Mike but Mike is already a legend. I dont care how many rings Kobe make or LBJ, but they will never copy the originator of basketball. NBA on NBC is Jordan's time.

  • i miss the old nba player now all of them has retired

  • It always was MJ year...dumbass,.

  • The nba on nbc!!!I hella miss those days. It was the illest intro ever to n e sport. That music was off the hook!!

  • The NBA on NBC was the bomb. There is no comparison.

  • I fuckin miss the NBA on NBC!

  • i think we all do, especially with the ESPN announcers being morons and all.

  • what a nice intro

  • hey whats the name of the song

  • Roundball Rock, John Tesh.

  • hey can u post this game please

  • yup u right i do got this game

  • Is it Kobe's year? He can do what only one man has done. In the same year win a MVP, Finals MVP, lead your team to a title over a historical team without home court. And win a Gold metal. If he does this could be the last histrocal run we see in sports from one player. And to top that. He is about the same age as Jordan and the same coach with the same system.

  • he's not going to win the championship

  • omm85,i'm pretty sure it was the 90-91 season

  • im guessing this was either in the 89-90 season or 90-91 season..right?

man who wouldve known that jordan would win not one..not 2..but six nba championships starting from the age of 28 n finishing the 6th one at the age of 35..unbelievable

  • That was a genius marketing plan in retrospect. Now, they try to divide that glory. So many players are considered 'great' these days that the meaning of the word has diminished.

  • Does anyone know when ESPN Radio's contract with the NBA is up? If it's before 2016, then Marv can call the NBA Finals on Westwood One. Kevin Harlan and Ian Eagle can call the Conference Finals on WW1, while Marv does it for TNT. By 2016, Marv will be 75 years old, but he can still call a good game and can probably call a good game at age 87. I just think that being the lead broadcaster for a new package at a very old age would not be right. ESPN/ABC dominate both radio and TV in the Finals.

  • Stanley Cup left out. :(

NBA on NBC still owns, though.

  • I miss NBA on NBC...

  • The question today is it. Kobe year? Finally got the MVP. Will he lead his team to a title?

  • NegroBC ?

Where is the Stanley Cup in the montage ?

    SHAAAAAAAAAAME.

  • simply the best ever!!!

  • See this is wat da NBA was all about, this was da hottest intro eva, shit now is wack,i miss da Real NBA

  • I MISS MJ!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm with you residentpalz, but bringing up Ernie Banks almost made me cry. Its 100 years.

  • @tigernike23 and counting.

  • this intro almost made me cry, i still know by memory some of the preview introductions by marv albert, I used to tape them, this intro contribuited to make the NBA great. thank god i Lived in the 90´s NBA.

  • OJ "KILLED" opposing defenses.

  • Whatever you think of OJ Simpson, whatever you think you know he did, he was one of the greatest running backs to ever play the game.

  • This gave me chills. The the NBA on NBC music kicked in and I almost wept. Awesome.

  • i think what our collective basketball soul(s) yearn for is simply this ERA of play...including the intro's. seeing jordan/malone/bird/magic/hakeem/barkley/etc. as the music is going STILL makes me excited. then im forced to watch kobe score 48 points on 41%fg. ugh.

  • this is what made me fall in love wit the NBA

  • Welllll.....who would YOU have wanted to see in the finals, then? The Knicks? Mavericks? Clippers?

  • dumbass

  • Awesome intro. Name of the song, anyone?

  • it was Roundball Rock by John Tesh

  • "Roundball Rock" by, of all people, John Tesh.

  • In showing Championship Thophies, where was the Stanley Cup? Was Hockey not important to NBC?

  • Hockey, for the most part, hasn't been important to Americans for a long time. And I'm certainly no expert, but haven't just about all of the all-time greats in hockey hoisted the Stanley Cup? The montage was about all-time legends that had never reached the top

  • I know a few Hockey Legends who did not win a Stanley Cup.

We can start with Marcel Dionne, who played with the Red Wings, the Kings(For a good part of his career), and the Rangers.

Bobby Hull(The Golden Jet), played for the Chicago Black Hawks, but went on to the WHA and won 3 WHA Championships with the Winnipeg Jets(How appopriate for him to be playing with them).

And if Ray Bourque had not won a Stanley Cup with Colorado, I would have included him, as well.

  • Steve Thomas only made the finals once with anaheim and was two periods away, and adam oates went to the finals twice, 1998 with washington and 2003 with anaheim and lost both times

  • It's just a shame that those Duck Players could not have stayed 4 more years to finally experince winning it. As soon as they got Scott Niedermeyer, and Chris Pronger, I knew that the Cup was coming to California for the very first time.

  • @asia1015 Hull Did win the Stanley Cup. In 1961 with the Blackhawks.

  • Also, I forgot Dave Taylor, who spent his Entire career with the Kings. He was a part of the Triple Crown Line with Marcel Dionne and Charlie Simmer. In all of his years with the Kings, he has never had the opportunity to touch Lord Stanley's Grail

  • mike gartner i dont think won the cup

  • Yes, you are correct. The Man with the Hardest Slap Shot in NHL History, with both the New York Rangers, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. And also, we can include another former Maple Leaf Darryl Sittler to that list of NHL Legends not winning a Stanley Cup.

  • I don't have to add anything to this. You guys said it all.

  • WHY DAVID STERN WHY??? We don't like fuckin ABC/ESPN. You are a greedy lil asshole for extending the contract.

  • The NBA on NBC team wasn't just broadcasting a game, they were telling a story. Each person had a story worth telling, and each game had a story going into it, and every crew member was dedicated to that from the directors to on-screen talent. That is what made NBA on NBC so spectacular, regardless of if Jordan was playing that day. Because they were dedicated to the story, the drama of the game itself heightened. ABC fails to realize that. Why, Stern? Why?

  • im wit u the games now unless they're on tnt arent exciting if the commentators arent into it thats my nbc was the best broadcasting at least of my time (im 20) is it possible to get that intro as a ringtone

  • NBC INTRO IS MUCH BETTER THAN ABC NOw

  • Everything is extremely bland compared to the days of NBC and that peakcock intro... "Now, Tim Duncan and the Spurs"

  • What song is playing during the intro (before the peacock and the NBA on NBC song)? Thanks!!

  • back when the nba was fun to watch

  • i hate abc and espn. espn is a good channel to watch sportscenter but espn doesnt need to have basketball, baseball and other sports. the nba needs to be back on nbc and thanks to commissionier stern, the nba would still be on nbc.

the nba on nbc leaves forever.

  • Anyone else sick of seeing that waste of space PCD during every ABC NBA game like I am?

  • NBA ON ABC and all ESPN things focus on the tabloid stuff. Its just generic. ESPN radio is the same thing . They do analyze games. They analyze the suspensions, Pacman Jones, David Sterns rulings. EVERYTHING BUT THE GAME. WE DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE INDIVUALS. WE CARE ABOUT THE GAME AND MEMORIES.

  • Thats when the NBA used to be exciting. When it was on NBC. ABC sucks it doesn't have the drama it used to have why did they leave NBC in after 2002 anyway?

  • Amen to that. ABC and ESPN is all style and no drama, no anticipation. You looked forward to double-header Saturday, tripleheader Sunday, no matter WHO was playing. I miss the NBA on NBC

  • "This is the NBA on NB..."

  • I think Jordan is happy he is not in the same company as OJ.

  • I wouldn't even wanna be compared in anyway with OJ

  • Yeah, I was about to say, Marv, you might want to use a different example.

  • This was in 1991, back when OJ worked for NBC and he wasn't...well...yeah.

  • yeah I know...lol

  • LOL! yeah he def won a few rings...

  • little did we know that he would go on to become a 6 time champ.

  • Aired on March 16, 1991

    Bulls won 102-98.

  • it's always MICHAELS YEAR!

  • NBC's dramatic intro to go with the music are unmatchable

  • This had to be the one of the first games NBC did.

  • i'm from cleveland

    this shit haunt me

  • "BULLS WIN!"

  • My childhood revisited right here

  • i noticed that Craig Ehlo falling down on the floor was priceless.

  • what a intro!

  • come back NBA ON NBC

  • i agree 100%

  • me, too.

  • Yes so true come back nbc
