Our government at work "protecting" us from ourselves. To quote Henry David Thoreau, "If you see a man approaching you with the obvious intent of doing you good, run for your life." He should have inserted "government."
No corporation has ever killed so many, so why do people defend big government? Look at the FDA and the tens of thousands who, denied the right to try a drug that had worked in other countries, or risk it while terminally ill, died before the FDA allowed a drug to be purchased by them, which later was found to have cured their illness. Big government no doubt saves many lives, but the cost is even higher! The safety net for some is a prison for the rest of us.
@vashguud Lots has changed since then. The progressives have been leading the march to end the prohibition of marijuana. It is the progressives who institute needle sharing and methadone harm reduction clinics.
However please work from your side to end prohibition as well.
There has always been drug abuse. Prohibition just exacerbates it. It raises the cost of drugs leading to theft. It leaves piles of money tempting officials towards corruption. It undermines everyone's rights.
@livinglegend1187 The fact of prohibition is that it didn't actually stop people from drinking. It created an environment where more people abused alcohol. That is the recreational drug environment we live with now. Then and now powerful criminal syndicates allowed people access to these substances. Drunk driving deaths have been declining with sensible regulations. As it is right now your kids can easily access drugs and even sell them. Kids can't sell you beer now. But you want crack? Sure.
Guest what they still are poisoning people,

It's called denaturing, and it's very important to keep certain aspects of alcohol production from being unfairly affected by luxury taxes.

@howarddeanlove It's a good thing prohibition ended!
I'm so glad that since it ended in the 30s that I never hear about some drunk smashing into a family's van, killing all of them.
Regulate and tax it! That's a sure way to keep people safe!
After all, if there's one thing I know about people, it's that they're responsible! Doubly so when partaking in mind-altering substances!
