  • hey tone own the beat i cause wanna hear substantial too

  • 4:21 to 8:47 is just to let you think back on the amazing song you just listened to.

  • @TheMikesaur kinda sucks in the middle of a playlist though

  • i thought to myself when i heard this song this is dope... if you got sometin bad to say bout this song then somethins wrong...

  • @pureintellectual How can you call yourself "pure intellectual" when you can't even put lyrics into context? He's talking about meeting an alluring woman who is attracted to him, but when she tries to sleep with him, he stops her, and tells her all the reasons why they can't be together; because he has a wife who is worth more a "one night stand". And he encourages her not to sleep around because being together with one person who you love for the rest of your life is "the light" of life.

  • @loraemon ^^^^^^

  • @loraemon kids with internet access always think they're "artistic, intellectual, deep" assholes. its a damn shame.

  • @pureintellectual your a dumbass

  • This track makes me want to f*ck Jun Seba's blessed dead body right now.

  • @MonkeysInMyHouse necrophilia much?

  • Rap lyrics....about turning down a one night stand to be faithful to "wifey," who's "worth more than life to me"? Nujabes, Substantial, you are artists in the purest sense of the word.

  • This is music with real meaning thanks for putting this on here

  • 5 people dont have a soul!

  • @loraemon plus you can Convert it

  • he did truely combine the old soul of jazz and hip hop. i think he sampled ramsey ;ewis julia and what can i say, it genius. nujabes rip, you made music beautiful

  • im in love wit this song. dope melodic shit. this beat is amazing. HIKARI meaning The Light

  • nujabes is incredible. why is it always the best and most prominent hip-hop acts that have to leave us behind? RIP J Dilla, jam master jay, seba jun...man.

  • this style of music must be called "nujabes"

  • Fuckin' love this song, don't get me wrong, but the only thing to dislike about this is that after the song finishes the video keeps going for like, 4 minutes.

  • R.i.p Nujabes - [ car accident ]

  • Check Out a Group called Bonobo

  • RIP NUJABES

  • It is sad to hear of his passing but his music lives on and his legacy will keep his unique sounds alive. If you guys haven't heard yet, check out some of these artists: NOMAK UYAMA HIROTO SUBURBAN TSUTCHIE DJ OKAWARI MICHITA KENTARO TAKIZAWA DJ NOZAWA These artists also have this "metaphorical" spiritual feeling incorporated in their beats and melody, which is what makes our Seba Jun, so unique and deep.
  • Yeah man.

There's a uniqueness to their music that they're responsible to carry on in lieu of the master, himself. A responsibility they undertook being colleagues or just similar to Nujabes, himself.

  • @loraemon I also think some of BONOBO's work can be added to this list.

  • @loraemon You forgot Fat Jon, 5 deez I think thats about all

  • @loraemon Also check out Kuroisoul, Ayur, LEMS, Kondor, DJ Whitesmith, Blazo, Kenichiro Nishihara (awesome stuff, he does two amazing songs with Substantial), Hidetake Takayama, Marcus D, Herajika Tracks, etc. There are tons of them, and they're all great in their own ways! RIP Seba Jun

  • @Zhinger51 Yes! On all of them! :) Thank you for posting though and sharing with everyone else! Everyone should definitely check all those artists out as well.

  • @loraemon Y'all forgot, Ta-Ku, Witness and Mr.Troy

  • RIP Jun Seba. T.T

  • julia-Ramsey lewis is the sample :)

  • @Beatband1ts, thank you. i couldn't say it any better.

  • man i remeber when i was like a rocker, metal ,death, emo kinda of guy. eversince i started listening to hiphop i look at life so differently and it really change my style of living. i wish the famous hiphop artist will know that music is about self expression not showing off you cars or girls.

  • beautiful words! i agree. but that goes for anything that people love to do.

    i feel soo chill...

  • @Beatband1ts :) as a person who loves hip-hop almost more than his gf I have to say this story means a lot to me

  • @Beatband1ts

    One Love Full Respect

  • i started of with the same music too.....im so glad that i "evolved" lol

    -much luv

  • i wish hip hop could be classified like this, not that new crap today -_- these are from the heart, the new stuff is just stupid

  • @christychik I agree with you, I guess money is more important then art...

  • I want to be a DJ

    music is my life

    the air i breathe

    my coffee in the morning

my covers when i go to sleep

music has effected my life so dramatically

  • Make it happen, you can do it! :D

Thats inpiration is for, do what you love and be what you love.

  • Nujabes is truly gifted with the ability too make music I like.

  • this song is too awesome the piano beat is calming

  • when i need inspiration to draw, i listen nujabes more often than smoking weed. eheh..

  • @L7U Same here. Nujabes is way better than weed.

  • @L7U Its cheaper than weed hehe

  • @L7U never tried to draw smoking weed.. HMMMMM

  • @amassasa try all creative arts. i have a whole sketch book devoted to marijuana ideas and drawings.

  • @amassasa actually i did but weed never had very strong effects on me besides getting sleepy and hungry ;)

  • @L7U i decided to quit weed and start rappin again when i heard the nujabes

i found what i was lookin for i hope u find shit sides weed one day man

  • @greendagger87 weed may be a drug, but its not a bad one. I've seen more damage done from cigs and beer than. drink responsibly, smoke responsibly, and always have nujabes in the background

  • @BlakcNinja ...Nicely put !!

    !

  • Some people get way too negative towards music. Nujabes doesn't need to be the most revolutionary producer with the hardest beats.

There is music for every situation or mood. This stuff is totally mellow, awesome for just chilling.

  • There will never be anyone who is the greatest in music because music have different sounds we all listen to. Any type of song creates a different vibe. So their really shouldn't be any kind of negative effect on music.

And on a side note, this song beats today's hip hop.

  • holy crap i just found some music to study to. THANK U NUJABES

  • These sad close-minded people...

  • How can u not like this?

  • grizzly

  • The Melody n instrumentals just flows

  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But i completely disagree with you my friend.

  • you sir are an idoit.

  • @shonenmaster1 check this link to see what i mean about this mc: Why is Substantial so big in Japan?

  • You my friend, swellclimber, are an idiot. I think most Underground Hip Hop friends agree with me.

  • Then who would you recommend?

  • @mkcoolsubzero check IAM "l'ecole du micro d'argent" for how this style of beats was invented.

  • i dont really see what you mean. his beats were repetitive to. and what made the rapper so good in your opinion?

  • Well put it like this. Eric Clapton is considered one of the best Guitarists of all time, even tho his riffs and soloes are actually quite simple.

It's not always the complexity of the lyrics that defines good lyrics, but also how much soul you put into your lyrics. Yes, anyone can say what Substantial says. But do they put in the soul that he does? Maybe, maybe not.

  • As for the beat and instrumentals, I would have to agree with loraemon. People listen to Nujabes because its jazzy, soulful and mellow. To me, his music takes me into a different state of mind.

  • People like this sound because its jazzy and mellow compared to the typical rap most everyone's been exposed to. Hip Hop is a culture might I add. Just because an artist doesn't 'spit' witty lyrics and make perfect rhymes it doesnt mean they are a "weak" MC. Do you know why people like this artist NUJABES and the underground artists he promotes to rap on his beats? Because it's SOULFUL. Not gospel, SOULFUL, as in the lyrics are spoken and the beats are spun full heartedly. So rethink your claim.

  • @loraemon

    ABSOLUTELY, well said

  • @loraemon I don't like it because it sounds jazzy and mellow, I like it because it's NUJABES!

  • So I guess in your opinion unless they are repeating the same raps about money, cars, and drugs over the same recycled beats then the MC is weak and it isn't real hip-hop?

  • well said loraemon

  • Awesome! Nujabes and Sub are epic.

  • he is trying to be deep with his words....but it is a good song

  • Nujabes and Substantial are the truth. This is real hip hop - accept no substitutes.

  • Epic Sound, Amazing Style.

  • Comment removed

  • "nujabes" thought it was pronounced new-ha-bees, substantial the shit

  • love nujabes and substantial!!!

tho i prefer just nujabes' beats.

    no rappin and stuff.

  • substantial sort of sounds like common a lil bit on here

  • how come sub pronounces his name "new-jub-es"

and others pronounce his name "new-job-bees"?

  • its just their accent, but its actually New-jah-bes his stage name comes from his actually name backwards. Jun Seba but in japan its last name first and first name last. so its Seba jun now flip his name backwards to read Nujabes.

Hope I explained that clearly. XD

  • perfect

  • his name is "Jun Seba".

  • i knew that, i meant his music name, Nujabes. the way some people pronounce it is different...

  • where can i get the instrumental by itself? i feel nujabes almost always outdoes the rappers with his tracks
