After I watched the awesome visual effects of Avatar and how good the movie was, I was thinking to myself I bet James Cameron is left handed and by golly he is. LOL! I noticed that all of the Avatar creatures were left handed too. Cool. :)
I met Cameron in LA last month one on one. He's such an awesome guy and almost completely different from the formal setting in this vid. He gratiously signed my terminator 1 dvd and talked with me for about 10 minutes about everything from Avatar to the difficulties on Abyss.
@stapleso it's because he is so dedicated to the final result of the movie. Working on a James Cameron picture means that you're working on a cinematic landmark with a half billion dollar budget. If you can't handle the intense pressure or stress, then don't accept the job and work on a small film or tv show. It's plain simple. I admit, he looks like a high demanding person, but he has delivered throughout his entire career and truly loves his movies.
Oh he was not wanting to sign your vhs Terminator?? He still owns the rights to the characters doesn't he?? ...no or he would have not allowed that garbage of T3!! or mabvye even the new tv show
The policy was only that book was supposed to be signed. My friends ahead of me got their DVD sleaves signed, and the woman was freaking out. So it was that, not to mention that I wanted a VHS signed.
The edit was just taking out a couple seconds of junk as I got the camera in position. He was being cool about signing additional stuff, but felt he better stop because the woman was freaking out. "I don't want to start a trend". Plus it was his movie in a cropped crappy VHS that I wanted signed! :)
Oh, I hadn't noticed the quiet "trend" remark at the end.
Curiously, this video's description: '...but rejects signing a Terminator VHS!' sounds as though it reveals Cameron's surprising contempt for his old work, when really, less revelational shop politics were at play.
Not contempt for his old movies. I beleive all the DVD sleaves were Terminator 2. If there was any contempt, it would be for the VHS format. But the biggest thing was the lady freaking out.
My DVD sleeve was for The Terminator! Boom!

He signed my friends Terminator DVD sleave.
For my Terminator VHS, it was two things:
1. The lady was going crazy that people weren't abiding by the book only rule.
2. It was a pan and scan VHS rather then a widescreen DVD.

@srm818 And why was that a big deal?

Wait what did he "why don't we not do that , we don't want to start a trend" about taping him???

Since Cameron no longer owns the rights to the Terminator series, he may not legally be able to.

He signed my friends Terminator 2 DVD sleaves.

WHAT?! James Cameron doesn't own the Terminator series anymore, then who does?

"...you sign this AS WELL!?"
Was he objecting to: it being 'The Terminator' or signing multiple items for one queuer?

From the video, (despite the edit) it seems he's surprised and offended by someone trying their luck in taking advantage of him.
However, that doesn't excuse the mean spirited rejection, tone, and body language.
Btw, thanks for the vid and reply.
