I want to sing this at church. I want to stand up and scream.."YES! THIS WAS WRITTEN AND MADE FAMOUS BY TWO BEAUTIFUL SOULS WHO HAPPEN TO LOVE OTHER WOMEN!"
Red Rocks, Colorado, was it 1994? The best concert of my entire life. I bought the beautiful black t-shirt with purple, blue, and other beautiful colors making a circle around the center of the front. Everybody in urban high-school back in Lansing, MI wondered who "Indigo Girls" were. I taught myself to sing along with this tape. I was already an REM fan, but this was.... amazing. My mom really pushed my interest in them. It waned around "Swamp Ophelia". But god, this album... ... the greatest.
the first time i heard this i played it over and over again, at least 10 times, the music, the lyrics thier voices. wow timeless. that was 15 yrs ago, still sounds great today.
The words of my heart lined up like prisoners on a fence, my dreams came in like needy children tugging at my sleeve...I said I have no way of feeding you so leave....Wow this song goes right into my soul and allows me to cry freedom tears!!!
The words of my heart lined up like prisoners on a fence, my dreams came in like needy children tugging at my sleeve... I said I have no way of feeding you so leave.....My heart beats like the wings of wild birds in a cage! Wow this song goes right into my soul and allows me to cry freedom tears!
23 years old and my earliest memories is cleaning the house with indigo girls and melissa ehteridge playing from an old cassette player while we sang along... And every year, every single year a new relevation is brought to the surface about myself by their lyrical work and i could never imagine my life without them.
Thank god they had the balls to come out. Better than all those stupid guys who hid and said they were bisexual. Thank you, you even gave hope to many gay men. :)
@tranurse Since I was about 12, 31 now. lol. I've taken 'the girls' through out my life. If my life had a soundtrak, they would have at least half of it.
This is the best sound quality video of this song on here, and I totally appreciate it. I love the dual guitars and the harmony between them, and I LOVE IT! They sing to my soul!
I listened to this song for weeks when I lost my momma. It helped me to find my way back to my "place in the the sun" and for that I will be forever grateful.
You lovers of this song and lyric, if the world were full of you, it would be perfect.

This song is amazing to three part harmonize to, esp if you use amy's latter harmony part over the beginning acoustic part...

I was half a naked distance between hell and heaven's ceiling....
This and other songs they've written will someday be recognized as the genius they are.

Truth is timeless.
Been listening to this song for like 20 years, and it only seems to grow more important to me.

Thank you!! Saw them in Detroit a hundred years ago. I am older, but this beautiful song is timeless, as with all of these ladies' songs!
