I have ps3 fat and got yellow light. Paid $80 bucks to get it fixed. Had to reformat hard drive because it kept freezing befere yellow light. Had to restore an earlier backup. It took 30 hours for the restore the backup of about 250 gb of data--I have a 500 gb hard drive. Thinking about getting the slim because of overheating with the fat ps3.

Actually I like the slim better. It has better HDD Capabilities, Its lighter and more portable, and has the same system specs.

Both of these consoles are EXACTLY the SAME. Here are the ONLY differences:

1. The PS3 Thick has touch sensitive buttons rather than physical buttons.

2. Paint job.

3. PS3 Slim is smaller.

4. PS3 Slim uses less electricity.

5. PS3 Thick can use another operating system such as Linux etc.

6. PS3 Thick has got a power switch, so it is not always on standby mode. (Defeats the purpose of Slim using less electricity)

7. Slim always on standby.

That is it.

@GORNIAK47 i found some things off with your contrast of the two models. The other OS option has been removed from the fat version with firmware updates. you could still run another other you just wont be able to access psn or play any new games. Most people dont turn the power switch off in the back so its always on perpetual standby. And the Fats, as beautiful as they are, have a tendency to Yellow Light after a while because of the heat generated. Not having to deal with YLOD is a real plus.

@wrp247 You have some fair points, but as a responsible PS3 owner I always turn my back switch off after play, (point number 6) and I leave my PS3 in a very well ventilated area. My PS3 doesn't make a sound, because of it, and it does not make any disc drive noises, because of the very well ventilated location. All in all, they are both the same.
