My 2 cents about the Pitchblack: The "no-click" pad-switch is not necessarily a bad thing. Quite the opposite it's a fantastic True-bypass system. The momentary switch that actives the electrical relay (instead of the physical-mechanical) avoids the "pop" or any noise when kicked. Another cool feature about the Korg is that the current draw is actually 0 mA when it's OFF. The pedal only draws power when it's used. And I don't mind about the plastic bottom, I find the quick access very convenient
lots of negative feedback on the polytune in the guitar forums. I would wait for a second generation model or go for the turbo tuner which is the most accurate tuner on the market at 0.02 cents
@bloodySunday77 The reason I believed that is because I saw a video from NAMM 2010 and someone mentioned that the firmware could be updated. I believe they were mistaken. I have a feeling though that it has some potential to be updated in the future like their Tone Print Pedals. Its just unusual that the service port is accessible by the consumer. Or maybe in place just in case of a major bug and they could send out firmware fixes. At the moment you are very correct.
@jamesedward44 Don't get me wrong, I've seen some faults here and there (the Polytune indicating that things are ok when they are a bit off) and I would love a firmware update. It's such a major selling point - just look at the update appeal of the Factors of Eventide. It would be easy for them to do that...
KORG Pitchblack Tuner which has this "soft-touch" and is also True Bypass. It has a 3DPT in it. You can google and try to find a photo of korg when it is truely open. AND WHO THE HELL NEEDS TO PLAY SCALES WITH A MOTHER EFFEING TUNER. Sorry for that last comment, I just had to say it ... :P
@AbandonedMind The Polytune will only be able to put about as much out and you put in. So you put 200 mA in and get about 200 mA out. The only power supply that I know of that comes close to 1500 mA is the One Spot power supply which puts out 1700 mA. I highly recommend the one spot, its clean, cheap and you avoid a lot of hassle because its strong enough to supply a ton of pedals. If you just have a few pedals though 200 mA may be enough.
@jamesedward44 You say that the polytune will only put out the mA that you put into it. So if I put 200 mA into it, it will put out the full 200mA? It doesn't consume any of that mA? I mean, I am sure it does while I am tuning but I am not using my pedals at that moment. But when its off and I am playing the polytune puts out everything and doesn't consume any mA, right?
BTW, I own this tuner and it is awesome! I will never go back to single string plucking tuning.
I have both also. I have the polytune for the road, and the pitchblack for recording. Ive returned the pitchblack plus 2 times because it fell apart doing gigs. Its a hooptie as far as moving it anywhere. But i think when it works right it is more on the dime. The Polytune has never let me down. Ever.
I don't understand why people don't read the manuals before to buy..
..clutchless you forgot to mention that:
For $99.99 USD Polytune Tuning Accuracy: +/- 0.5 cent
For $67.60USD Pitchblack Tuning Accuracy: +/- 0.1 cent
By the way.. I'm using the Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-200 ($129.99USD) and it's the best tuner with Tuning Accuracy: +/- 0.02 cent. Polytune has a good design.. but you know looks can be deceiving.. cheers!
@ElMontu No, the Polytune is +/- .5 cent and the pitchblack is +/- 1 cent, which means the pitchblack is half as accurate, not five times more accurate.
Pitch black is BETER. I had both.... I found the poly tune to be very inaccurate compared to the pitch black. I bought the poly and used it and my guitars seemed always to be a lil out. Went back to the pitch black and problem solved. Returned the poly and never looked back.
@jamesedward44 hey! thanks for the respond appreciate it.. how do you like it (IF you ever detune the guitar) because i play 2 differente guitars (1 just pure standard tuning) and the other one well basically C open - D tune - and A open
yeah i know. lol variety (N) what would you recomment? i was looking at the Pitchblack 2 (big one) and it saves up to 3 or 5 tunes. (sometimes i forget how the tuning goes) so that would reallly help
The pitchblack is quicker and more accurate.

Here In my country the Korg PB is $80 and the Polytune is $180, is a $100 difference, would you pay $100 more for the Polytune or just get the PB?

how is it for down tuning, for c # standard?

It would have been wonderful to read the text during the video but some moron have to write the whole shenanigans in OUTLINES
StudioSonico 10 months ago
You're supposed to strum or pluck some chords to see how in tune the guitar is, not play a scale. In particular the ma 3rd of ma triads.

The firmware of the Polytune cannot be updated. The USB connection, as TC themselves have said, is there for service reasons only.

@jamesedward44 on their website it says "Drop D tuning update available soon!" i assume that's what the USB port will be for.

Great review man, thanks, I think I'm ordering a poly now

I think you ment DPDT (dual port, dual throw) not 3DPT ?
And by the way do either of the pedals bypass your sound when turned on?
nspade13 1 year ago
@nspade13 DPDT means double POLE, double throw.

@ElMontu Not correct. The Pitchblack Plus is 0.1 cent. The Pitchblack is 1.0 cent accuracy. The Plus costs about $150.

What was that irritating clicking sound during the Pitchblack?
Either way though, fantastic comparison, and excellent choice. I love my Polytune, and I'm glad to see you do as well.

The Polytune CAN NOT be updated!

Polytune seems pretty responsive and accurate, alot of tuning pedals are slow to lock on to the signal making fine tuning very frustrating.
