  • I have a feeling that tool has seen this.

  • are you guys in a band together

  • The description box says not perfect. I have to disagree. 5/5.

  • hi, we did an acoustic version of schism too! maybe you have time to watch and tell us what you think! cheers :) tool4ever

  • I would love to provide a vocal cover over this with your permission man :)

  • Tool without Maynard sounds a lot different... Still way awesome cover guys.

  • forgot to mention. nice job :3

  • add vocals, and do a new cover of it, and I bet it'll be epic :3

*is learning to play this on guitar*

  • I like it.

  • I'd like to record the guitar part for a cover...I feel I have a much better tone/note-clarity/rhythm, no offense.

  • @matt46and2 watch some of my newer shit. This was four years ago, done in one take, with no prep, and my wife banging on the window to come in the house.. ( She had gone out, and I wouldn't let her back in till I was done lol.)

  • You guys should redo this cover, I'd like to see a new version since you all have improved and got better gear.

  • hard to beleive this song is 9 years old.

  • drummer did a pretty decent job especially I think because Carey has a certain style that's tough to replicate.

  • this is really great. drummer is amazing. if you need vocals ill be happy to work with you guys.

  • great job... the bass tone towards the end makes it hard to hear what hes playing

  • Great Job! the mix is really well done too!

  • speechless, tryuly respectful

  • well played guys, this is pretty sick. How does the drummer mic his kit for recording?

  • good job guys, you killed it, drummer dead on man! really is a hard song to get together as a band....loved it!

  • lol dude it's just to have fun and become a better musician. Being in a band doesn't have a whole lot to do with talent, it can be a lot of being in the right place at the right time and knowing the right people. If you can't be in a succesful band you play music for fun, and that's what they're doing.

  • ive never understood the point of forming a cover band. why would you want to mimick somebody else. i think its almost acting when you buy the same distinct guitar as well. i mean no one will ever take u guys for more than that group of guys that trys to be tool.

  • Dude, all sniping and bullshit aside, I'm going to help you understand this. You know the feeling you get when you are watching your favorite movie, or playing your favorite game, or whatever? Like "this is fucking awesome"? Most people have the desire to share that euphoric feeling with others. They invite people to share the sensation, to share the happiness that they get from these activities. That is what we do. It isn't a matter or getting glory or praise, but sharing a euphoric experience.

  • i understand that... i understand covering peoples songs just as jamming to get used to playing with each other and what not but why not evolve the sounds rather than mimick?

  • Plenty of people DO do that, and most of the time it sounds like shit in comparison. They try so hard to make it different that they just ruin what makes it wonderful in the first place. Honestly, I figured you'd think that trying to change someone elses creation into your own, would be worse than trying your best to share the experience it in its origional, unadulterated form.

  • i live in burbank. i know people who work in the music biz.... good luck getting a record deal.

  • AWW MAN REALLY?! NO RECORD DEAL?!?! Well fuck all this then, if I' would've known that , I would've never put any of these video's up. Good thing you told me. Shit I might as well quit playing guitar while I'm at it...

  • might as well its impossible to make a living as a musician unless your hannah montanna nowadays. also if i were to play in a tool cover band id call it "gaping lotus experience". every generation theres a band thats widly covered. in the 80s there were countless rush cover bands and 1000s of led zeppelin cover bands now it seems to be tool.

  • Well when your right, your right. Honestly gaping lotus experience did actually come to mind, but It was already taken by like 4 other bands. Actually Tool seems to be the huge minority compared to all the Fucking party band cover bands that are out there, at least in Chicago.

  • ive never seen a cover band in any good venues in hollywood. cept for the doors cover band.

  • @opiateofthemasses

    Try living in non-Austin, Texas.

  • bassist needs a noise suppressor or something.

his tone at the end was basically feedback and in the middle where the volume swells come in you could hear the hiss .

drums were pretty awesome. as was the guitar (especially for only one layer)

  • Now if we could only get a vocal cover video.. Hmmm.. Challenge anyone? haha

  • drums mixed very quietly?

  • Amazing! i would love to see more full tool songs covered by you guys!

  • its so hard to decide where to look, just like a real tool concert!

    AMAZING JOB GUYS!!

  • frick this is cool!

  • The guitarist has the best Tool tone out of them all.

  • I would suggest watching Matter311's solo video of Schism before coming to the conclusion.

  • what program did you used?

  • 3:14 to 3:19 on drums was awsome

  • yall actually did really good! XD

  • bad bassist only use picks lol jk

  • Drum track is perfect

  • ur drummer is doin his triplets on that chorus too fast

  • Very nice work.

  • you guys start a band that was really good

  • How the heck did you put these 3 together like this?

  • the sound is really good, I hope you do more tool covers

  • i am awestruck at the sound of tyhis video. you wer all amazing, and i cant wait for the next cover, or original O.o

  • you know really a lot of people start to get in to drumming because of tool and it sucks cause they get out of that whole idea because playing tool its a challenge and to be able to hear it all be ear that some dedication i give you props man good work

  • AWESOME COVER!!!

  • right tone not the right tone?! F* It! it sounded awesome to me! Maynard's voice in it and that's that!

  • the drummer is great :)

did you use tabs/notation or by ear?

  • ear

  • @matter311 I just want to let U know that i was singing schism as the vid was going :)

  • wow

that was a good cover man

    keep up the good work

  • Sounds great to me.

  • drummer thumbs up

  • Bass player's tone is great! Don't listen to the haters!! GREAT job guys...and the sync is easy when you all play to the CD....duh

  • Not a fan of the bass player's tone.

  • ... Can you hear? That's almost as close as to Justin as anyone can get. Great cover guys. I noticed a few screwups by Toolbassplayer though, I know he can do better though.

  • I really dont think that is a good tone.

Its too choppy... Not full enough..

Im sorry if you think differently than me.

I have nothing against his not accuracy, but the tone is just... Idk.

  • I'm just glad people aren't afraid to speak out against Brad. I like what he does but, he's accumulated some sort of Tool divinity on here and it's ridiculous. Other people make good tone/performances on here.

  • dude are you seriously stupid enough to believe that the little camcorder mic is sufficient enough to accurately represent his over 12 grand worth of equipement?

  • Listen. I dont give a damn what you guys think. Okay?

Maybe his camera can't capture the tone, but it doesn't matter to me. I don't like the tone.

Is having one opinion against a video honestly that bad to where you have to come in and comment against my decision?

    Typical Americans. :)

  • Well I can pull up quite a few of live TOOL cam recordings where the bass sounds like shat but I'm sure you like the Studio Versions right? Well when we get over a million bucks to record some "REAL SHIT", we'll get back to you LOL.

  • Listen.

I am just saying that this guy is not as amazing as everyone says.

I am very sorry that I dont have the same opinion as you.

The tone just doesn't sound great to me.

You can argue all you want; nevertheless, it is not going to change my perspective.

  • wow, okay shut the fuck up. nobody cares

  • boo-flipping hoo, if what you have to say isn't constructive, then shut it

  • homo

  • @matter311 As said below, I think you guys did really well, but I have to disagree with anything Tool sounding like shit in person. Maybe I've just never been there on a bad night?

  • @Stinkfiist0 I don't think that the sound matters what matters is the fact that they pulled off the song so flawless it's damn near impossible to say it's not bad ass because they did such a kick ass job at it, just because it's not up to Studio recorded perfection, who cares they did a fuckin bad ass job lol. I'm just giving you my opinion just because you said you said you don't have to comment against your decision, lol, I'm giving you my opinion and that's that lol

  • @Stinkfiist0 Wow you're a fuckin dipshit

  • far from perfect, but i've yet to find a better cover :) i like your drumming vids matter, i'm a guitar player and have been for a few years now and just recently got myself a drum set. your vids are helpin me learn. lol thatnks

  • fucking amazing job!

  • oh, and bravo to the drummer, lol. fuckin hard beat to keep.

  • how did you sync the videos like this?

  • I don't think that is any of our business....

  • must be cause no one on youtube will tell me how.lol

  • its actually easy to sync this...the main reason is that they are all playing to the same original song. the CD version.

  • just to let you know that was not a negitive comment i was only listening that close because it was realy good

  • i tried to sing to it, your bassist put me off on the cold silence part maybe i could not hear him enough is he missing a few notes like the big slide down to start that part? other wise it was sick NEED VOCALS!!!!

  • haha i was just going to ask if they wanted vocals for this song.

  • That was fucking awesome!

  • All of you Dumb asses who think they are off it is because this is video is synced together so some parts may be off..

Other wise a good damn song i can Maynard's voice pop up when you guys play!!! 5/5

  • 3 cameras

    nice

all 3 of u did a really good job playing this

    1000/1000

a thousand out of a thousand

  • 4:25 fx are awesome.

Your bassist and drummer lose timing very occasionally, but I highly doubt schism itself was recorded in one take.

    5 stars guys.

  • fuckin freakin beautifully awesome!

    just thank you

    you gave me some ideas

  • Internet band?

  • is that how that solo effect is played?

is it supposed to be done by the bassist?

    and AWESOME COVER

  • Yep. Great cover :)

  • Sounded amazing..only thing I saw that was a bit off was the bass at some points were a tad rushed..but barely so that it was almost un-recognizable.

  • It's not me rushing it is the syncing of the video...:(

  • everythings perfect.....now where to find a vocalist

  • great job! =]

  • That was absolutely terrific. You guys worked off of webcams? Awesome!

  • F'N awesome dudes

great cover of an awesome band

    keep it up!!! :)

  • Amazing!! :D we have also practised Scsihm with our band :)

  • That was awesome.

  • cant hear ur snare

  • yeah you can... or at least i can dude

  • Every good drummer should be able to pick out a drum part of any song.

Whether they can play it or not.

  • what?

  • That was scary good =\

  • Wow amazing, not sure how I missed this! 5 stars dudes.

  • The beginning was a little off time but the more the song got along the better it got.

    Sounds almost exactly like tool.

    Very good job.

Im used to seeing a lot of shitty covers of stuff so this is nice to watch.

I cannot believe that people have anything bad to say.

They are just dumbass's who need self esteem boosts, dont let that get you down.

    Keep the music goin!

  • man respect for doing this...fuck the haters just keep doing what you do...

  • the 3 best on youtube

  • almost.. theres a guy that does the bass better in my opinion. still that guy kicks ass in all his other videos

  • who? justin chancellor?

  • the bass player rules!!! the drumer rules!!!...the guitar player...mmmmm

  • i need new pants now :)

  • nice i'm guessing you just added three covers together because I've seen the drum cover on its own. But good that you got the timing right, I'd love to see more!!!

  • might as well throw away the hammer,

    cuz u already nailed it.

    nicely done awesome

  • That was fuckin amazing!...u nailed the sound right there!..what fx / amp r ye running thru?

  • THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!! very very very good guys!!! damn! keep rockin

  • ^^idiot^^

    You guys did awesome.

  • you obviously dont know shit about bassplaying..

  • apparently neither do you... this bass player is extremely talented, watch some of his videos..

  • Youre dumb you know nothing about how good brad is

he plays tool like HE IS JC

  • Sounded good to me.

If your going to knock people down keyboard warrior you may want to back it up with your bass playing videos.

If not then dont talk shit to try to boost your self esteem.

  • You can see by the amount of thumbs-down you have that nobody agrees with your statement, your just a dumb asshole with no videos of yourself 'bassplaying'

  • not only are you firing meaningless accusations but you know no engilsh as well.

  • Excellent collaboration! Your A/V was flawless Great sound/mix! I have done a couple of collaborations on my channel! This raises the bar! This drummer gives you a loud 5/5

  • Impressed.

  • the greatest respect!!! hats off, favourite! keep it up!

  • Turn up the Geetar a bit. Rosetta Stoned next! good job

  • AMAZING NIRVANA11792 iz rite grt a singer and make a band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • bahhhhh. alll of your covers are dead on. especially considering the conditions in which you recorded this. awesome awesome. finally some people that do justice to the genius of tool.

  • INCREDIBLE!!! u guys should make ur own TOOL tribute band together!!!

  • I must say, that was an awesome cover. Don't get a vocalist unless he/ she is VERY good - you guys deserve it!

  • ur very good men!!!!!!!!!!

    especialy the drummer!!gud talent..stay humble!

  • incredible. bridge was awesome

  • what a great way to film, it's inspired me to do the same. that is totally the best cover on youtube, wouldn't you agree that playing to the cd is easy but doing schism for real is pretty difficult mainly because it's such a rush once you've found the right people to do it with, you're so psyched you lose concentration, anyway, you guys really do kick assballs

  • you guys kick assballs.

  • I must say, bloody awesome work considering the conditions. Hats off to all of you.

  • That's great, I thought nobody can play like Tool...

  • no, it's not perfect, but things rarely are except under perfected studio conditions. man i wish i could get something like this together- id love to play tool covers with you guys or even make original material.

  • That was beautiful! Very enjoyable! I used to watch OpiateoftheMasses play to gain insight on certain spots! This was great! \m/

  • dont hear anyone singing!!! Maynard is the shit. Great job on the music though.

  • that was bad ass

  • how do you guys operate? are you all miles away or in the same house?

  • i was thinkin the same thing. i bet the bas player records his, sends it to the drummer who overdubs, then sends that to the guitarist who overdubs that.

  • Actually we all recorded our parts seperatelty while listening to the actual tool track.

  • ahhh... thats a good way to do it. so you dont get out of time.

  • great job fellas

  • what years the Gibson?

  • because they listen to the song over their headphones ;)

  • thats pretty fuckin awesome how you just put them together and they came out perfect

  • hey i know another guy who does rad tool covers, search 'jimmah01'

  • at 3.30 when theres sposed to be an instrumental part you shudnt hav played drums on the second bar, the only part about it i dont like, well done though

  • damn u guys are good and i alredy subscribe to opiateofthemasses how did i not know about you.

  • wow i love the sound of your drums

  • sounds pretty dam perfect 2 me like

  • I missed the singer it will sound great with him CAN YOU DO MORE SONGS WITH HIM?

  • pretty good.. when are you guys gonna cover The Pot???

  • that was bad ass guys! i would give my left nut to play as good as you all!!!!word

  • Holy shit, that was amazing, you guys are my heroes!

  • gah i could barely hear opiate.

  • well he has a pretty marginal part in the song. you probably could but wasn't really paying attention.

  • well i wouldn't say marginal.. but still

  • fantastic, considered making a band??

  • i was always hoping that a gathering like this should happen, and now that iv heard it, it sounds even better than i thought. you guys should try aenema

  • wow...just wow. You guys need to get more Tool covers done. Very very nice.

  • Very cool! Sounded almost perfect! :D

  • Awesome... Great Job!

  • hey are you even hittin the snare?

or are you just hittin the rim

    btw great job

  • Danny C. plays with his snare wires "off" in this song, is that what you mean?

  • what kit are u playing matter? sounds insane.

  • Mapex Orion Classic Series

  • That was amazing, I'm usually a bitch about bands covering Tool(usually because of the vocals) But the drummer was amazing, especially his improvisation.

  • The drum part he improvs in the bridge sounds a lot like third eye :)

  • Third eye? That's funny, I was thinking Reflection.

  • I thought that at first, but they are kind of opposite. Reflection starts at the low tom and works it way up during the measure, Third eye starts on the high tom and works its way down. He's working his way down here. ;)

  • wow looks like a fun song to jam to
