  • wow what memories!!! thank you!! I was 15 years old in 1967 and my Dad was a hot shoe in the modifieds,, Jess Tolbirt was his name,, yea i miss him.

    some of the names i remember is larry schield, joe plowman who drove bare footed. of course bill blumerick. amoung others i cant remember right now, i knew em all..o yea walter ballard,, we were from the Angleton, area..

  • I was a child during most of this and have listened to stories from my elders about Meyer Speedway. Now I can see what all the excitment was about and how the place looked. Very cool old film convert. Thanks for posting it for us young uns!

  • Those were the good old days. I went there a couple of times in the late 60's early 70's. Always a great show. I loved Joe Plowman's Torino! I think it was 361 cubic inches. He's the white flash that goes around the wreck @ the 4:02 mark, and you can see the rear of the car later in the pits. He had the track record IIRC for awhile.. Pretty darn good for one of the few competitive Fords battling it out against the Chebbies.
