OMG, I just love this version of Bowie's classic song. Both the song and video compliation takes me back to be a 13 year old back in '83 listening to DD. I had all four walls AND ceiling covered with Duran Duran posters, especially with John Taylor. ;)
First time I heard this on KROQ (LA radio station) back in the early 80's, I recognized Simon's voice right away. I was so excited to hear it until my brother said that the song wasn't by Duran Duran, it was by David Bowie. I could have SWORN it was D2... and years later, I found out I was right (this is one of their earliest cover songs that went to print)
Thanks, Technosapien! Your work is always awesome!! *luffs*
Brilliant remake of Bowie. This came out on a Japanese Import-Their first release called Night Romantics....Hunt it down and buy it. A beautiful song on it is called Khanada....Oh my, the beautiful sound of the Brits.
And if you are lucky enough to find one with the original Japanese to English lyric sheet, you will laugh your ass off! I will always cherish the lyrical gem: "A ticket for you, a ticket for me, I've got to get to Wichita." Really?? Kansas? WTF is so important in Kansas to someone with newly acquired fame? "Hey! I made it! I'm going to Wichita!" I laughed over that one for months!!! Gotta love the Japanese trying to decipher English lyrics. LOL!
I always heard it pretty clear that way to, maybe Simon Le bon changed it a bit, why Witchita? True, hmmm but here's what I pulled from the web-Fame
"A ticket for you, a ticket for me
Ive gotta get to witchitta
Fame.."
Bowie's lyrics say something about chilly pain..........Dont get that one either. A real hard LP of Duran to get is With Compliments. I have spain and japanese 7" singles of my own way, some real rare stuff. :) Thanks for writing.
I love the My Own Way cover from Japan. I bought the Nagel print for it. Actually, I am also currently using it in my DDM sig and on my MySpace default pic!
@skunkus It is not changed. It is the Japanese fucking up yet another translation because they are most likely sitting there listening and trying to figure out the words themselves, but it is all wrong. Japanese lyric sheets are notorious (no pun intended) for wrong lyrics. There is a great Ultravox one where it says something about "I'll sell you my story Clyde." it should be "my slow reply". We had a laugh about that and made jokes for years about Midge's imaginary friend Clyde.
Needs more cowbell...
