@TheDrSNo Surprising it absolutely was Kirk that wrote and layed down this solo. It sounds quite a bit different from most of his solos, so it is pretty surprising. I thought Mustaine must've did this for the longest time, but I've looked into it quite a bit, and there's no doubt in my mind Kirk wrote it. Mustaine has also never taken credit for the solo, and he's the kind of guy who would if he could.

@BobBriessinck well it's not type of bands that play those guitar it's the tone and sound of the guitar. so your saying LDT only good for metal? well read a lot of reviews and info and try the gibson explorer and it is good for any kind of music. I especially play a lot of death metal and heavy metal. Im not saying the LDT sucks i like the LDT but i like even more is the explorer. the sound, tone quality and the radical shape. Even my favorite band dethklok uses the gibson. But it's your choice.

and the epiphone is a mahogany body, as suppose to a cheaper wood (basswood)

the neck on the esp ltd is thinner though

I have this guitar with an 81/85 combo. Its a great guitar that has excellent output with actives. Its quite heavy, so if you are a small person perheps a les paul might suit you better. It has lots of wood so there is lots of ressonance, It can have fantastic action once you learn how to work a fixed bridge. The stock pickups are terrible, i switched them as soon as i got the chance. I have lots of pedals butthe tone i get straight from my guitar and my peavey rapes anything for lead.

For metallica's solos I usually use the tabs just for reference and not for exact performance. There's no point in learning hammett's solos note for note when they are created in an improvisation feel. Even kirk doesn't play his solos identically anymore.

i have the explorer korina and im really happy with it, and everybody says that the korina is better. I tried an explorer gothic and it didnt sound worse to me, just a little darker, but i think that's the pickups anyway i put a seymour duncan on my guitar. if i had to choose again, i'd go for the korina, its heavier i think, i like the dots on the fretboard xD and it has a better clean sound imo

i think what happened was that dave made the solo up untill 1:03 in this video and then after he got kicked out kirk did the rest but i could be wrong so someone tell me if i am please

Dave wrote the whole solo. When he was kicked out there were parts kirk couldn't do so he changed them to make them easier for him. There's a recording of Dave doing the full thing somewhere on the tubes

It could be the video frame rate, but you seem tense when you play. I think if you practiced this solo slow and relaxed for a bit, you could play it along to the CD perfectly. I'll give ya 5 stars!

Except that Metallica doesn't give writing credits for solos. Look at Leper Messiah, Battery, Fight Fire With Fire, and numerous others. All have solos written and performed by Kirk Hammett and he doesn't have writing credits on those songs, and neither would Dave Mustaine for a solo. From what I've heard Dave wrote the "god help me, please god help me" riff, and that's why he got credit; he contributed a part significant to the structure of the song, which an individual solo is not.

the credits are not for the solos, they are for the riffs and general ideas. If dave was credited for the solo then kirk would be credited in every song in ajfa for example.
