Laurie, just an idea for another competition. How about one where players would only have 1 or 2 days to submit their videos? The idea is to favour more the rough talent and improv skills than how well one can prepare, compose and execute a complicated solo.

You could announce the competition a month ahead, and on D day, give out the backing track and let the shredding begin 'til 24/48 hours later. Just a thought.

@chumbo Hi Chumbo, that is an interesting concept. The current format is designed to give people enough time to get their video in and study the backing track. I would like to hear what others would have to say on the subject.

@lauriemonk I like this idea, but I think maybe 4-5 days would be a bit more reasonable... Still not enough time to meticulously compose and practice something, but enough time to factor in any "off" days of improv takes, any technical recording, editing, or uploading issues, and people actually having full time jobs and lives. ;)

do we hear for the chord changes in the background piano? or those bluesy chords being played in the background? because those chords are played very fast and in small bits, a bit hard to hear the pitches! thanks a lot!

@AmphisTheBand This backing track in four quarters grove or rhythm if you like , and every chord change is on 4 count of ; one ,two, three, four X 4 for the first chord and all the others ... except on the end is just E m7 chord

@AmphisTheBand It starts with E dorian, which is the same thing as D major, and works with the E minor pentatonic/blues scale. Every chord change it moves up three semitones (3 frets). Eventually you're back where you started. It's possible to improvise it if you're confident of where to go and when the changes are and how you want to play through them.

@wkriski yes, this backing track is making people have to think, but is great to stretch yourself, get you out of the comfort zone. There are many killer solo's that will make it really tough to pick a winner... glad that's going to be Brett rather than me :)
