I'm surprised this opening lasted as long as it did. For the late '80s this look and theme
song was just fine (not saying it fit the show, but it definitely fit the era), but like someone else here said by 1995-96 it became out of date, especially compared to other soaps' openings of that time. If it had been up to me I would've had this opening replaced by 1993 at the latest.
Once this type of opening started (I believe around 1987), AW should NEVER have moved away from it. It had a certain sweetness to it and the way the title scrolled across the screen was very unique, and so was the song itself. I guess someone thought that if they updated the opening, it would attract more viewers, but alas they changed it, and AW went off the air with that HORRIBLE opening for their last 3 or so remaining years.
@TimsDale4ever = what a load of crap! This opening should have been retired LONG before it ever was. It's so cheesy and mundane, with absolutely no edge or intrigue.
@Messylin I agree TOTALLY!! This opening and song, and I quote Soap Opera Digest at the time, "looked like the beginning of a feminine hygene commercial." I always hated it as it NEVER fit the show or what AW was all about. I watched AW from its 1st day until its last and this was the absolute WORST of all the openings and themes. My favorites were the last one and the one immediately before this awful one.
@butchboy13 I thought most of those openings were generic, although the last one was amusing since they had to keep cutting people out of it and by the end it seemed to be about five seconds long.
I think this, along with the rings of the '60s and '70s, was their best.
Oh boy! I miss this show sooo much!!!!!

I loved the AW openings when they Filmed it outside and when Crystal +Gary sang the theme song.

fuzzy memory...was robin christopher on AW between stints at ABC soaps, or did she start out on AW first?

@anthonisaac Robin was on AMC starting in the 80s, so I'm guessing this is just a brief stint in between ABC soaps.

Yeah, but by 1995-96, the opening was beginning to look very dated. They needed to make the titles fit 1990s sensibilities.
