The Dalai Lama was 16 when he left Tibet, hardly enough time to "adopt" any system. He has stated on many occasions since his Exile that he was about to change many of the ancient and out of date customs in Tibet before China invaded.

Since his time in Exile he has done nothing but provide service. He travels the world teaching and uses all sponsorship money to help others - all Tibetan kids in Dharamsala go to school for free, etc.
