Wow looks like from the sound delay you were 5- 5.5 miles away but it really puts out quite a strong sound for a good while, maybe because it ascends much slower than say a Delta or the space shuttle without the assistance of SRBs. This must be what it was like watching the Mercury astronauts on the Atlas rockets form the beach in 1962.
Also the low clouds, they always say a cloudy sky helps reflect the soundwaves down to the ground more strongly than clearer skies. I think it's the slow ascent, when a shuttle or a faster vehicle moves downrange and higher faster the sound fades away more quickly.
Sounded awesome with a subwoofer, although a bit distorted. Gotta love those RD-180 engines! :)

yeah i was really surprised by both how loud and how long the sound was. those atlas' don't appear all that impressive on the launch pad.
