  • Brilliantly done!

  • Along with "The Last Ninja" the game with the best music of all time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • epic sound

  • Always loved the C64 audio on this game, thanks to Jonathon Dunn. But, I also loved the title screen graphics. The silhuoette of the soldiers combined with the music was really atmospheric!

  • Perfekt Einfach genialer Sound und erster 3d shooter mit Adventure elemrnten!!!

  • really really beutiful song

  • this came out alongside predator, two awesome games!!!

  • This was the only good thing about this game!

  • This is the best song ever written. This my childhood

  • i have laways loved this tune, real mellow to start and it builds layer upon layer, got a great melody that takes u on a journey, the music conveys the potential dangers of warfare and a sense of anticipation and uknowingness at what might happen, a classic really .

  • Nice Dude

  • The best video game theme tune in the world ever.......

    C64 ROCKS!!!!

  • so many memories...

    ...my old Commodore 64

    thanks guys

  • YES! Me played it through!! Without cheat!!!

Everybody who hasnt is a whimp...even with lvl 120 in WOW. So, bow!!

By the way, one of the first ego shooters, loved that tunnel=)

  • @NetPagle

  • I remember ripping this game lol and doing a demo using the music (Had to shift it around memory as it was changing from $d000 to $e000 etc. Not to mention i changed the ocean idea and using FLD (Flexible Line Distancing) which made it a lot more interesting.

  • it sounds familiar... i grow up with ZILITON and SEGA :D Thouse sounds are cool :D

  • @MrSagamore

I never heard of the Zhiliton before!

On google i'm finding a Nintendo clone and a Sega Mega Drive clone!

Could you tell me more about that computer?

  • @MrSagamore Poor you, not growing up with a Commodore 64!

  • Ocean did a pretty good job with a lot of their games C64 intro music; Robocop is another good one

  • @rini900a

    blank comment =alt+0173

  • i used to make c64 music mix tapes back in the 80 people thought i was insane

  • About the music. I played the NES version first - I liked it. Then after years I played the C64 version - I loved it. The NES version is pure crap comparing to this one. IMO All songs in this game are 100X better on a C64 than on NES.

  • great music and great game.

  • Very cool game

  • I used to load this game and leave this tune on a loop for ages. Diplo can't have had a C64 otherwise I reckon he'd have nicked this version instead..;)

  • 1986 The year my Benz left the factory :) Brings back memories

  • man this song is neat : )

  • The first casualty of war is innocence...

This song is one of the best SID-tunes ever!

  • Jonathan Dunn RULES!

  • I hadn't heard this music for years, but remember every bar even after 20 odd years.. still superb (if you9 can ignore the limitations of the systemand the best part of the game! Cheers for posting..

  • It's amazing how short the credits are. It really shows you how far games have come since then. These days, game credits seem more like movie credits they're so damn long.

  • Awesome music!

    I remember this game!

  • Marvellous!

How many people actually made music on their C64 back in the day? Paste the following title into the bar:

COMMODORE 64 MUSIC MAKER PROMOTIONAL FLEXIDISC

This is the record which given away free with a magazine to promote the Music Maker keyboard and software.

    Have a listen and rate.

  • Very good game with plenty of character although it was damn hard. The 80's era had the toughest games of all decades.

  • This is so great!!! This sure brings back a lot of memorys! Thanks for posting!!!

  • The first casualty of war is innocence...

  • Halcyon days! It's been 20 years and i could still navigate my way to the explosives and then up to the village. Probably.

  • Hahahaha...I watched the full Robocop level 1 walkthrough yesterday and almost had a panic attack just watching the photofit stage.... it was so stupidly stressful.... check out the loading music - Its fanatstic!

  • That game was absolute nails if i remember correctly. Don't think i ever made it past ED-209, hard enough getting to him in the first place. Loader graphics are pretty awesome as well.

  • i loaded up platoon on VICE the other day, and completed the entire game, from memory..... after an 18 year gap. Sad huh

  • @rnrbishop

Not sad at all....in fact consider yourself awesome!!!

  • What do you mean, the music?

    Id have to disagree there,

but people are always going to be biased favouring the version on the console they grew up with! ;)

  • @djsmithy I grew up on NES version. But when my NES broke I used my C64 again, and got Platoon from my friend. And was like WTF is this, the ingame music is 100 times better than the NES version. Well the NES version also looked worse which totally shocked me at the time :/

  • it doesn't matter how good games get there will never be anything to equal the way people thought about gaming back then..........absolute classic and i am so glad i was part of it

  • yeah. i am so glad i was kid in the 80s.

  • Thanks for posting; I loved this game and the sound effects and music especially...so cool yet so simple.

  • Great sound!

  • Good memories. Don't understand why people claim this game sucks. It had action and great graphics (for the 64). The tunnel system was my favorite level. And yes, I could endlessly just keep this screen up in order to listen to the music.

Ocean actually gave a tape of smokey robinson along with the game. Personally I think they should have put this music on it. Would have been perfection.

  • Yeah,very good game.

  • Agreed. Fun game and great music.

  • on that same floppy there was another file with credits obly... it had some crazy music.. anyone remember or even know where to find this stuff

  • C64 version sounds so much better !! - Thanks for posting !

  • Tune indeed!

  • Tune!!

  • Ah, yeah the NES version does sound more like it.

  • Its a bit of random thing to put in a beat all the same though isnt it!

  • Diplo have sampled this tune. Look for Diplo - Newsflash. It has been driving me mad for days after i heard it in my mates car the other day and i knew it was from a computer game back in the day!! Yes!! I can sleep now! haha

  • Yeah, its the nintendo version he sampled though, the nintendo version is in the video response.

  • Remember having this on C64, with Rambo 2, Miami Vice and The Great Escape.

Good times... good music on all those games!

  • i had that same box-set cool !!!

  • Hollywood box set, right?

    Hehehe... that's cool.

    From UK?

    Thats where I bought mne.

  • I think it was the Hollywood pack. I had the same one with my C64 aswell.

  • Yes, Hollywood pack is correct, I had the same one (bought in Denmark). I loved this tune....still do actually :-)

  • i had same c64c also ... RamboII,Miami Vice, Platoon and Trivial pursuit :) one black SVI joystick.. aaah memories

  • One of the best music and display intro on C=64!

  • check last ninja 3 before you come up with a claim like that ;-) C64 forever

  • I remember it was like 2 weeks that my father bought an Atari 2600 for us and guess what? My uncle bought a C64 and brought to our house to show us and we were screwed up big time comparing the games with atari lol

and after 2 years we bought a C64 and guess what! This time he bought an Amiga 500 and we were screwed again lmfao

    I never forget that.

  • your uncle sounds like a right bar steward for doing that, having said that, for happy times, the c64 is always fondest remembered

  • I had a 64 and amiga.. I actually got bored of the amiga and just ended up using it for making mod files. There were a few games on the amiga I really liked, but a shed load more on the c64 =)

  • if uve ever played that great one, you will always remember that great music tune

  • i remember going to castle street in manchester where ocean were based. id go there if i ever had a game by ocean that didn't work with my dad (me being 8 years old at the time). my dad would complain about it not loading and id come home with a new ocean title. lol i got this game for free.

  • Diplo's "Diplo Rhythm" samples this. Good lookin' out Wes!

  • Hah! Thats pretty weird, havent heard it before.

Its actually the Nintendo version it samples, the video that i responded too.

You should add a comment to that one too to give people the heads up!

  • I still have a working Commodore64 with 1541 disk drive and C64 monitor still works and printer still runs, doesnt that tell you that c64 has very well made computers :) I still have this game with some others, you guys remember 'Strike Force Cobra' game? You can download vice emulator to play c64 games again.

  • hach da werden Erinnerungen wach ! die alten Zeiten - die alten Kamellen hehe

  • this game had some awesome music .. i had to download the emulator and an old zzap64 mag with the map of the last level to finish .. would always get to the final stage with nfi where to go .. turns out u just go left , right .. all the way to the end .. hah!

  • Whoa...the music on this was way better than the NES version.

  • wow!! i havent heard this since i was about 10 years old!!! i still have my C64 and this game somewhere. im off to find it right now!

  • I got Platoon in a compilation called 'The In Crowd' which also featured Predator, Arknoid Revenge of Doh, Last Ninja 1 and others I forget.

  • Yes- it did indeed come with another pack of 4 games, known as the "MindBenders" pack. The 4 games were "Confusion", "Snare","Split Personalities",and "Trivial Persuit". None of these games commanded the attention of the c64 as the classic Night Moves pack.

Nightbreed was bloody impossible-but I used to play it a lot, because of the incredible, atmospheric music during its title screen.

I loved Midnight Resistance-but my version only had 5 of the original 9 levels, for some reason.

  • wasnt this an arcade game i remeber playing this game at a bowling alley

  • Platoon the game was never released on arcade but maybe youre confusing it with something similar.

I cant think of what though!

  • Far as I remember, the Hollywood pack was Christmas '89-a friend of mine got it that year, and I got an Atari 2600. The Hollywood pack was good, with this game and Rambo being the real blockbusters, but I did not like Top Gun,The Great Escape, and Miami Vice. Hard games to get into and play I remember. I got the Night Moves pack the following Christmas and that was awesome- Midnight Resistance,Nightbreed,Shadow Warriors, and Sly Spy. Best day ever!!

I remember Daley Thompsons challenge too.

  • Agree with you about Top Gun and Miami Vice was also a steaming pile. The Great Escape was great, though!

  • I got the Night Moves pack too, the same year too I think! Well, it was a combined Night Moves/puzzles? pack, coming with Fusion, Splitting Image and some other not so hot puzzle games. All the Night Moves games rocked, although I could never get anywhere with Nightbreed. The music for Sly Spy was great, I still listen to the SID tunes now and then.

  • Sly spy rocked alright!

Ill have to upload a gameplay for that too i think, its not on youtube yet.

  • This must be one of the most atmospheric title screens ever.

I got C64 in the Christmas of either 1988 or 1989. I got Daley Thompson's Olympic Challenge and Hollywood Pack which contained Rambo, Miami Vice, The Great Escape, Top Gun and Platoon. I have very fond memories of all of those games (except for Top Gun maybe... although I did like the screen where the planes got in the air). Anyway, Platoon has been one of the best games ever since!

  • Atari 2600?? Oh yeah, I had one of those too. Christmas '89. I remember games like River Raid,Kangaroo, Desert Falcon, and Moon Patrol.

My friends during this time had this on the c64,and thats when I played this first, and got the c64 the next Christmas.

Yeah, the music here is actually the loading music too. All the tunes from the game were brilliant.

  • amazing song man

amazing game at its time, I still have my c64 haha I never enjoyed any game in my life as I enjoyed with c64 and atari 2600.

Remember the river raider, the last ninja I, II, III... the 2 was the best I used to play it a lot and had become very good at the game, I remember I used to beat the devil having only one life left haha.. it was amazing man.

Thanks for uploading this beautiful Platoon beginning song :)

  • Looks like my reply didnt go through! X-(

The last ninja 2 is my favourite game of all time, and platoon is prob my 2nd favourite c64 game.

I remember getting all the way to the final battle when i was 7 or 8, but i could never light the candles in time!

Its only a few years ago i beat the game using an emulator.

The music is excellent in both games,

its amazing what sounds they could get out of the sid chip!

    Thanks for the reply!

  • Thanks! The game itself was rock hard, was'nt it? I remember it came free with the Commodore one year in a game pack, along with Top Gun,Miami Vice,The Great Escape, and Rambo First Blood Part 2. Always one of my favourite c64 games, along with the likes of Last Ninja 2,and Midnight Resistance. If you can pass the tunnels on Platoon, that'd be great, since I never saw the later levels! Thanks again!

  • The Last Ninja 2 is my favourite game of all time! Platoon is up there with it.

The sewer level was actually on a demo tape i had called Blaze Out, so i think i cleared it before Level 1.

Unfortuneatly my copy of platoon was dodgy, so i could only play the first level! :P

  • Classic game. Have you got any fooage of the actual game? I could never get past the tunnel section, kept getting lost,I remember!

The music in this game was awesome, especially the tunnels.

  • Ill try and get game play videos uploaded asap.

The last level is going to be tough to clear though! :S
