Always loved the C64 audio on this game, thanks to Jonathon Dunn. But, I also loved the title screen graphics. The silhuoette of the soldiers combined with the music was really atmospheric!
i have laways loved this tune, real mellow to start and it builds layer upon layer, got a great melody that takes u on a journey, the music conveys the potential dangers of warfare and a sense of anticipation and uknowingness at what might happen, a classic really .
I remember ripping this game lol and doing a demo using the music (Had to shift it around memory as it was changing from $d000 to $e000 etc. Not to mention i changed the ocean idea and using FLD (Flexible Line Distancing) which made it a lot more interesting.

About the music. I played the NES version first - I liked it. Then after years I played the C64 version - I loved it. The NES version is pure crap comparing to this one. IMO All songs in this game are 100X better on a C64 than on NES.
I used to load this game and leave this tune on a loop for ages. Diplo can't have had a C64 otherwise I reckon he'd have nicked this version instead..;)
I hadn't heard this music for years, but remember every bar even after 20 odd years.. still superb (if you9 can ignore the limitations of the systemand the best part of the game! Cheers for posting..
It's amazing how short the credits are. It really shows you how far games have come since then. These days, game credits seem more like movie credits they're so damn long.
Hahahaha...I watched the full Robocop level 1 walkthrough yesterday and almost had a panic attack just watching the photofit stage.... it was so stupidly stressful.... check out the loading music - Its fanatstic!
That game was absolute nails if i remember correctly. Don't think i ever made it past ED-209, hard enough getting to him in the first place. Loader graphics are pretty awesome as well.
@djsmithy I grew up on NES version. But when my NES broke I used my C64 again, and got Platoon from my friend. And was like WTF is this, the ingame music is 100 times better than the NES version. Well the NES version also looked worse which totally shocked me at the time :/
it doesn't matter how good games get there will never be anything to equal the way people thought about gaming back then..........absolute classic and i am so glad i was part of it
Good memories. Don't understand why people claim this game sucks. It had action and great graphics (for the 64). The tunnel system was my favorite level. And yes, I could endlessly just keep this screen up in order to listen to the music.
Ocean actually gave a tape of smokey robinson along with the game. Personally I think they should have put this music on it. Would have been perfection.
Diplo have sampled this tune. Look for Diplo - Newsflash. It has been driving me mad for days after i heard it in my mates car the other day and i knew it was from a computer game back in the day!! Yes!! I can sleep now! haha
I remember it was like 2 weeks that my father bought an Atari 2600 for us and guess what? My uncle bought a C64 and brought to our house to show us and we were screwed up big time comparing the games with atari lol
and after 2 years we bought a C64 and guess what! This time he bought an Amiga 500 and we were screwed again lmfao
I had a 64 and amiga.. I actually got bored of the amiga and just ended up using it for making mod files. There were a few games on the amiga I really liked, but a shed load more on the c64 =)
i remember going to castle street in manchester where ocean were based. id go there if i ever had a game by ocean that didn't work with my dad (me being 8 years old at the time). my dad would complain about it not loading and id come home with a new ocean title. lol i got this game for free.
I still have a working Commodore64 with 1541 disk drive and C64 monitor still works and printer still runs, doesnt that tell you that c64 has very well made computers :) I still have this game with some others, you guys remember 'Strike Force Cobra' game? You can download vice emulator to play c64 games again.
this game had some awesome music .. i had to download the emulator and an old zzap64 mag with the map of the last level to finish .. would always get to the final stage with nfi where to go .. turns out u just go left , right .. all the way to the end .. hah!
Yes- it did indeed come with another pack of 4 games, known as the "MindBenders" pack. The 4 games were "Confusion", "Snare","Split Personalities",and "Trivial Persuit". None of these games commanded the attention of the c64 as the classic Night Moves pack.
Nightbreed was bloody impossible-but I used to play it a lot, because of the incredible, atmospheric music during its title screen.
I loved Midnight Resistance-but my version only had 5 of the original 9 levels, for some reason.
Far as I remember, the Hollywood pack was Christmas '89-a friend of mine got it that year, and I got an Atari 2600. The Hollywood pack was good, with this game and Rambo being the real blockbusters, but I did not like Top Gun,The Great Escape, and Miami Vice. Hard games to get into and play I remember. I got the Night Moves pack the following Christmas and that was awesome- Midnight Resistance,Nightbreed,Shadow Warriors, and Sly Spy. Best day ever!!
I got the Night Moves pack too, the same year too I think! Well, it was a combined Night Moves/puzzles? pack, coming with Fusion, Splitting Image and some other not so hot puzzle games. All the Night Moves games rocked, although I could never get anywhere with Nightbreed. The music for Sly Spy was great, I still listen to the SID tunes now and then.
This must be one of the most atmospheric title screens ever.
I got C64 in the Christmas of either 1988 or 1989. I got Daley Thompson's Olympic Challenge and Hollywood Pack which contained Rambo, Miami Vice, The Great Escape, Top Gun and Platoon. I have very fond memories of all of those games (except for Top Gun maybe... although I did like the screen where the planes got in the air). Anyway, Platoon has been one of the best games ever since!
amazing game at its time, I still have my c64 haha I never enjoyed any game in my life as I enjoyed with c64 and atari 2600.
Remember the river raider, the last ninja I, II, III... the 2 was the best I used to play it a lot and had become very good at the game, I remember I used to beat the devil having only one life left haha.. it was amazing man.
Thanks for uploading this beautiful Platoon beginning song :)
Thanks! The game itself was rock hard, was'nt it? I remember it came free with the Commodore one year in a game pack, along with Top Gun,Miami Vice,The Great Escape, and Rambo First Blood Part 2. Always one of my favourite c64 games, along with the likes of Last Ninja 2,and Midnight Resistance. If you can pass the tunnels on Platoon, that'd be great, since I never saw the later levels! Thanks again!

Many people still use Commodores for music today, as fully integrated studio composition and synth machines.
I do too. Paste this title into the Youtube bar: COMMODORE 64 "COOTY"
Also Google in CONCEPT-SINGLE NET

How many people actually made music on their C64 back in the day? Paste the following title into the bar:
COMMODORE 64 MUSIC MAKER PROMOTIONAL FLEXIDISC
This is the record which given away free with a magazine to promote the Music Maker keyboard and software.
