  • DON'T EVER CLEAN A THROTTLE BODY. The carbon deposits in the bore are actually good for sealing.

  • @ozziindaus There's no sealing needed on the TB. Furthermore, newer drive-by-wire systems require a clean TB to operate and not skew the TPS reading. A clean TB is a must for proper engine operation. Keep posting.

  • @ADPTraining I'm specifically talking about the carbon deposits in the bore, not the TPS. Debris in the TPS indicate more severe problems, specifically, moisture through bearing seals, cover seals etc. They should not be cleaned either especially with DBW or ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) or ETB (Electronic Throttle Body) systems since these are generally NON SERVICEABLE components from the OEM.

  • @ADPTraining Furthermore, if you lose the mechanical relationship between the throttle plate and TPS (Contacting or non contacting) by removing the TPS, it is almost impossible to regain it. Not all OEM calibrations are self learning. The engine ECU will always assume that the plate angle is within the TPS tolerance at that specific angle and if it's not, because the relationship is lost, it will trigger the limp home mode. Bottom line is, if your ETC TPS is bad, replace the whole unit.

  • @ADPTraining Now, in regard to cleaning the carbon deposits in the bore, this is a big mistake and absolutely unnecessary. It's a benefit to have these deposits for sealing. The ECU will compensate for these deposits by adjusting the blade angle UP after measuring airflow and manifold pressure. Scratching the bore or nicking the blade will cause irreversible problems.

BTW, the OEM's clearly state this in their service manuals. Unfortunately, the service guys don't always follow instructions.

  • Per GM instructions on TB cleaning.

Clean the throttle body bore and the throttle plate using a clean shop towel with GM Top Engine Cleaner, P/N 1052626, or AC-Delco Carburetor Tune-Up Conditioner, P/N X66-P, or an equivalent product.

Install the air cleaner outlet duct.

People are counting on your info, make sure it right.

We fix many problems due to carbon on throttle plates and bores.

  • thanks for your answer i'm just having problems with theDBW i think because i was using the overdrive buttom pushing it to use it coming down a road instead using the brakes because front brakes were shaking a lot i used the engine to brake instead i checked the tps on throttle body on other side of DBW and looks erratic so may be is that the problem ? also the transmission is doing bad thanks for answer my question i'll keep you informed how my truck is doing your videos are so good

  • @theASEtech Ok, I can tell you that engine breaking the vehicle will not cause a DBW issue. If you tried to play with the throttle body using a screw driver or another tool, that'll cause an issue. Clean the TB really good, then find out the DBW reset procedure. Let me know if there's anything further I can do for you. You're encourage to check out our "Stories from the Road" series right here in this channel. • is there an special tool to adjust this kind of electronic accelerator i would like to buy it and of course get some training how to adjust it thanks

  • @theASEtech No, there isn't, here's why: The older drive-by-wire systems had to be reset with the OEM scan tool. Most newer ones don't. There's just a procedure, depending on the manufacturer. But, the one thing to consider is throttle body cleaning; which is now more important than ever. If a DBW system goes into limp-in mode due to TPS faulty reading at idle, clean throttle body THOROUGHLY and reset the DBW TPS rest or idle values according to the procedure. Keep posting, thanks....
