  • There's an easier way to attach the front pieces together. I can email you directions w/ pics if youd like.

  • @insidexistance Yes. Please do! I have now purchased a zipper foot for my sewing machine which has also made a huge difference.

  • I love the way your pants came out! Thanks for making these videos

  • YOU MAKE PANTS LIKE A BOSS!

  • thank you so much for posting this video I am planning on making some clothes to sell at our towns craft fair, and although I have made one pair of pants already the extra advice and how to take all the proper measurements will be an extra big help. I will be for sure recommending your videos to others I know. And will be looking to them for future help. Thanks for posting and keep them coming.

  • Hi, great video series on making pants. I am a little unclear about how you made the zipper fly though. There was a part where you were folding a piece of fabric that you sewed the zipper on to. I was hoping you could tell me more about what you did there. Thanks!

  • I've watched all your videos in aid of all my sewing problems and questions. Your'e videos are amazing, thank u very much.:))

    Your'e my only sewing buddy:'(

  • Very Likeeeeee !!!

  • GWERL u need ur own show LOL, very helpful! Keep educating on the craft of sewing.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. It was so helpful!! I find patterns so hard to read. It's so much easier to watch and then do.

  • I love u! The model is perfect!lol I love how u show the mistakes u made and how to correct them! A natural instructor! I will post a pic of mine when im done

  • I love you!! The error was hilarious!! Your bird laughing at you had me cracking up crying tears!! Thanks!!! Can't wait to start my pants!!

  • Loved this video! You make us sewers' look human! I laughed when you discovered you'd sewn the front piece together. I've done that before.

  • loving the tecnique , im looking for a patter to do palazzos they are in fashion, i have tried 2 different times but nothing so far to get them wright , i want hight waist with a zip at the back and a couple of pleat . thanks gina

  • i like videos like this that actually help on something

  • @pulsarcolosal Thanks for watching! I just uploaded more detailed instructions and a pants pattern diagram to my blog in case you are interested.

  • This video is very informative, esp. you took a great length in really explaining how to take body measurements and convert those to the pants pattern. Really a must see video for beginners.

  • in the video you had to cut part of the zipper off because the front was higher than the back. how did the front end up higher than the back? was it bad measurement that caused it? to make sure that i dont have to cut the zip, should i try the pants on first before i put the zip on?

  • @trinianime Thanks for watching! I cut the front lower because it was too high. The back should always be higher than the front because when you sit down your rear end pulls the pant down in the back. There are other ways to make pants, in the advanced beginners series that I have started there will be a video explaining in more detail. I should have cut the pant front before putting the zipper on and then purchased a zipper the correct size.

  • I just bought a sewing machine because one my resolutions this year is to do the things I always wanted like learn spanish and sew without patterns. This was great, like others said I did not see other vids showing the basics of measuring like you. Im not worried about the zipper and stuff, I'm just happy you showed some stuff I cant find everywhere like how to measure. Thanks.

  • I love your creativity! I would like to learn to sew, but schools are expensive what is your suggestion to me.

  • @GivingGlory Hi there! Well the hardest part, and it is not really that hard, is learning how to use a sewing machine. The rest is easy! A basic tank top, a tote bag. Those are good projects to start with. If you haven´t seen them yet look at my earlier lessons. You can buy novice level patterns at the fabric store too. There is usually a section where you can browse through pattern catalogs and when you see something you like tell the store attendant to get it for you!

  • This is the only video that deals with pant making from initial measurement, down to the pattern making ang ultimately to the last stitch. I grew up never meeting a good tailor to do justice to my body. Its either I have a bulging crotch or a wedge in my butt which really made me very conscious of my pants. Your video inspires me to learn how to sew, even if its a tedious task for a 40 year old man who manages businesses. Thi will help me conquer my childhoods frustration. Gracias y Salud!

  • Thank you for watching. I should tell you that my beginner level series I use a lot of "cheater´s" techniques .They are not really the official way to make clothes but I find that teaching this way takes the fear out of trying. In my advanced beginners series, starting at around lesson 13 or 14 I start teaching patternmaking. At some point I will do a more official pants video that will be a bit more technical, but if you follow my videos and my blog you should be able to handle it by then.

  • You are so kind in these videos. Thank you for explaining how to make a trouser without complicating everything!

  • @down8here :-) Thank you for watching!

  • Wow! You are awesome!

  • this was a good video and made some cool pants but didnt get the zipper to work out??? (ended up just putting in a few buttons) maybe you could post another video making pants with the zipper a different way?? if there is one.... lol love ur vids! MAKE SOME MORE PLEASE!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for your nice comments. I love making videos and teaching what I know. I am actually working on the advanced beginner series now and will be uploading in a few days, "How to Make a Basic Bodice". The bodice is the most basic garment for the upper body from which all other tops are derived. Then you just rotate the darts or let them out to your liking. See my blog for more info and click on the ads of your interest (I get a few cents per click over there.)

  • you'r so adorable ^^ and those pants look cool =) and the video was very helpful

    tks*

  • great job :)

  • Hey great vid, I'm so happy you made it. Now we know how finally have a pair of pants that actually fits us. I wasn't able to find the tutoriol on your blog, could please post it there as well so that we can be sure to get the measureents right

  • @fullredplatinum I will have to put this on my blog you are so right. I am not very organized on my blog and don´t always keep things up to date. I will have to just sit down one designated day and get it all organized! Thank you for watching.

  • she seems so sweet :-) i cut a pattern out of a bed sheet to practice sewing, and now i know i was doing it ALL WRONG

  • I have begun working on my advanced beginner series now. Watch all my beginner videos to be up to speed for the next ones!

  • I was looking for a video like this. Great video, except I need to know how much allowance I need from the seam allowance. How much allowance do I need? 2" 3". I don't know. Please respond.....Great video though Jean

  • If you are working in inches, you can leave a half inch seam allowance other wise 1 or 2 cms. It really depends on what you want. Whatever seam allowance you decide to leave what is left outside of the stitch when you sew it. Many sewing machines have the seam guide markings on the plate under the presser foot so you just keep the edge of the fabric on the line as you sew. Otherwise just make a mark on it in pencil or something erasable to use for that particular project.

  • Geniales tus videos!!! =)

  • El mate me defraudó! Tu tendrias que ser detective!

  • May I ask you why you do the zipper the opposit way from how the standard is, so that you get that (sorry) horribly ugly rectangular flap on the outside? I mean, a front zipper is not supposed to look like that. Let the flap extend on the inside, then you can topstitch a nice curve like on a pair of jeans... Would be nice if you included information on that, as IMHO it is so much better to learn the right way first. Just use e.g. "hotpatterns" tutorial on YT for that part instead of yours. :)

  • You are correct. There a definitely nicer style pants than these. I try to use square simple shapes in these beginner videos. I had a look at the "hotpatterns" tutorial and I like the simple "non-threatening" approach to zippers. I will put a link from my video to that one at the zipper part.

  • I had you turned way up when you were measuring the top outside... the dog barked... and scared the crap out of me!!

  • What stops the zipper from falling apart? Didnt you cut the stopper off?

  • Yes, you are correct. I had cut the stopper of the zipper off because I needed it to be shorter. I had to be VERY careful until I sewed the waistband on. Now the waistband covers the teeth of the zipper and stops the pull from coming off. It would have been better to have a zipper the correct size to begin with so that I wouldn´t have to cut it. Thanks for watching AND paying attention!

  • Excellent, love the simple way you explain. It was funny when you sewed the two legs together, you are real, jiji Some things happen.

  • Thank you for watching! I like to show when I make mistakes because that makes people less afraid of sewing. Sometimes people don´t even try it because they think they have to be perfect. The only way to get better at anyting is making mistakes when doing it!

  • 06:36 ha ha that is why i hate dogs!!!

  • He did give me quite a start there! But I still love him. I thought I would leave that part in to wake up the viewers who might be falling asleep by that point!

  • she cant see her pins cuz she uses pins without head

  • This has been really good and helpful! Thanks for sharing! :D

  • wow u are soo amazing!!!

  • They turned out phenomenal, it's probably easier than it looks. What I do is take a pair of pants that I love the fit but are too old to wear and unstitch them and use them as my pattern, saves me from all the measuring. However I do need to learn how to make them from scratch.

  • We LOVE you!!! you are a great teacher. *subscribed* :D

  • They came out looking great! I don't think I have the patience to make my own pant pattern and everything...I might go try and make a pair of pants from a store bought pattern though because I've never made any.

  • what's a good inexpensive sewing machine to start with?

  • Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have always had pleasant experiences with Singer. It is a well known brand. Maybe just buy the least expensive model. But I don´t really know if there are better machines or not.

  • Hi,

I must disagree strongly with you on this. The new and cheap Singers are horrible, real bad quality NOW! So many have wasted their money on those. If you can't get a more expensive, high-end Singer, you should either go with another brand or with an OLD Singer! If you have a low budget, e.g. the Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116/118 are great machines, good quality and functions real well. I chose to go for one like that and combine with a high end serger, instead of getting a real expensive SM.

  • LOL! You're a trip! I LOVE these pants! Thanks for sharing! <3 Dig :D XOXOX

  • Thank you. I lke your tutorials. If you enjoy sewing have a look at the playlists on my main page, they are of other people on YouTube that do sewing tutorials as well!

  • I've been trying for a long time to get a good pants pattern. I'm close but your video gives me much info that I can apply to the point where I am now. I wish you lived close. I'd hire you to help.

You are a GREAT teacher. and I can't say I've ever seen a more informative video. I'll be looking at every video you post!

    Thank you,

    -susie

  • They turned out great. I have always used commercial patterns but it is nice to know how to do it without having to buy a pattern.

I have only started sewing for a year off and on when I get the time. I have problems though sewing a straight line and getting the fabric to do what I want it to do. I am getting better but my clothes don't look professional yet.

  • oh! nice xD

  • i think your video is very helpful and easy to understand i think i will to make a pair of pants

  • the highly anticipated part 3! the little girl in me is jumping up and down. they turned out fabulous, I'm not a fan of zippers, not because its hard to sew but i just fell in love with an eyelet garment tape and the 'hook and eye' set.

  • Good for you. NOT following "rules". There is definitely more than one way to close a fly. I also have revisited your other question about sewing the two pant legs together first and THEN sewing the crotch. I had not understood it clearly the first time. But I now recall a way to sew pants that I did when I first learned to sew. Sew the two leg "tubes" first, then turn one leg inside out and line the two pieces up one inside the other, then sew the crotch like we did the t-shirt sleeve.

  • ah okay, that makes it clear. thank you so much :)

  • wow... it came out perfect on u ... i'll try to make it then .

  • they turned out really well. I love the fabric you used too.

  • Wow ,the pants came out grate,I'ma try it!!!!
