In a few decades, I'll need to wear a diaper to listen to this, it just never fails to make me bust a gut. I'm actually a bit tempted to check through your lyrics for errors, but in the end will take it on faith that you got it right. Thanks for all your hard work and for posting this. I love Shooby!
I was seconds away from killing myself with a shotgun in my mouth when I heard this for the first time. This song made me go to medical school and I now live in Virginia with my wife and 3 kids, "Shraw, Doppy, Zhoo-la."
@ptanzmgt lol. it's true, though. Shooby's like kryptonite against depression. funniest Shooby recording imo is his scat over You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You. He's in top form. I think you can still find the mp3 over at Shooby dot com (site devoted to his music). I could listen to that thing for days and never get tired of it.
@saxjax07 he was dead serious, according to his bio. He had a pretty severe drinking problem so that might have contributed to his vocal acrobatics. He gave a fairly extensive radio interview a few yrs back just before he died (age 73). He worked as a mailman, if I'm not mistaken, and was always trying to break into the mainstream music business with little success. He tried to learn to play sax but was too impatient so he became "the human horn" instead
I suppose I should fess up to being the guy who transcribed this, back in July 2002. I just found out about the video via my sister's Facebook page. It makes me happy that it's still making the rounds, and that Shooby knew about it before he died (I got to talk with him briefly during the interview he did for WFMU).
NB I originally had the ending as "schwa-a-a-a-ah!" I still hear it that way, but it got changed to "shplah" when someone reposted it to their website. Horses for courses, I guess.
@LionsOfMercy: Believe it or not, only a few hours! I used a program called Audion to slow it down, which helped a lot with the trickier phonemes. BTW I've finally come around on the "shplah" thing.
Shooby's still very much on my mind, too. My girlfriend and I occasionally watch reruns of the show "Without A Trace", and whenever Poppy Montgomery's character shows up on the screen, I bust into 0:51.
One CANNOT continue having a bad day after giving Shooby a listen. It's impossible. Try playing this song, looking into the mirror and saying "I'm gonna STAY mad.." -just can't be done.
Listening to Shooby work his magic is entertaining by itself, but knowing that someone took the time to transcribe every single ... um... "word" he sang makes it infinitely more enjoyable. Well done my good man.
one of the lyrics were off a bit
