I just want to thank Natalie for telling me to turn down my music in Hartford, CT in 1998...Imagine being chastised by Natalie Merchant herself!!! Magic! I think she said: "turn that fucking shit down I'm trying to eat my fucking lunch..." to paraphrase. She was having lunch outside at the "Reader's Feast Cafe" and I was in the process of rehabbing a bldg next door which would become the "The Cosmic Bean Cafe" and called "one of the keys to the city" and "something out of Ginsberg's Howl....
by the Hartford Courant...no shit! Look it up! But Natalie didn't know that so obviously she isn't clairvoyant...she could be...who knows...? Point is: she doesn't like being forced to listen to Kenny Wayne Shepherd at full blast during her lunch...I know this for a fact...this whole "incident" is now one of my treasured memories...she really snarled at me too...menacingly...I feared for my life for a minute....seriously...she's can be fucking ferocious I guess..they told me later it was her!!!
@jenstagner Not too sure what you mean! Do I infer she's ugly or something? Actually, I think she's attractive. Tell you what, why don't you send a video of yourself to YouTube maybe you look great with the talent to match. Who know's!
@jenstagner I think some wittle silly bub got their little brains ALL good n plastered from readin too much 'cosmopolitan magazine'-um, honey bubby? Your comments are...pretty much useless here! Have a nice day!
For me, When Natalie Merchant sings everything else must stop. Her voice draws you in and captures you. Natalie Merchant is a wonderful talent in the world of Music.
I don't understand why she is now saying she has been late in coming to poetry. From what I read, in her teens she was freestyling poetry from historical sources, whipping them up, impromptu, into songs.
@IWannabeJew And her love of Allen Ginsberg's poetry, too. She wrote "King of May" about him. But maybe she just means that her appreciation for poetry is becoming deeper now.

@IWannabeJew She probably means really embracing it, even other types of poetry that perhaps intimidated her is what I'm grasping from her.

@Luna5402 Maybe, because she was reading Walt Whitman at a 1999 concert I attended.
