Chris, your classroom is so organized and well managed. What are some things that you suggest to 1st and 2nd year teachers to develope this type of environment for their students?
This isn't Chris's classroom...it's me, Tim. ; ) Quick tips? Establish clear behavior expectations and reward students who cooperate, penalize those who don't. Do this consistently and with respect. Plan your lessons so the kids do more talking than you do with a lot of pair share and small group discussions. Monitor student follow through and expect 100% participation. You are looking at 20 years of practice, so it's not a simple answer. I hope this helps a little.
