I read an article about that in the newspaper a few weeks ago. Dutch is considered a cuddly version of German. Vise versa we thing German is a hard and coarse language (i love it though). To us the Flemish dialect sounds like a soft cuddly version of dutch. Compared to German that must make it a sweet pudding.
