    whoop whoop!!

  • haha love this song

  • What. A. Groove

  • fantastic saw these guys at sheffield "top rank" i think it was around 1980 supported by the selector. great memories

  • another clasic

  • Got this back when it was new and I seem to remember this as being the first digitally recorded album. Anyone know if thats true?

  • The Beat.........apparently known in North America as The English Beat.

  • just saw them a month ago, they"ve still got it

  • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

  • so so good. Reminds me of the the good old days!!

  • @MsDonna67 Yeah, now it's the dark ages

  • this group was fantastic me and my friend used to baby sit for the drummer everit when the beat went on tour or to london when they went on top of the pops shame they split there songs live on

  • la la la ;a

  • remember this one well ,nice one ,thanks for the share

  • what a great era for music and ska alike.wonderful memories.

  • Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • love it reminds me of when i was young .getting a bus to the angle market to get my two tone badges lol the good old days.

  • Bloody brilliant nostalgia..... why can't music today be this bouncy, happy and uniting for all people... no matter your musical taste your feet will be tapping and you'll want to get up of your arse and dance............ superb

  • @retroharpo cause' people are going ga ga over Gaga (vomits) ...love this song love them live too ahhhhhh

  • I'm use to commenting on clips with such intelligence and clever insight, with a droll cowl of self stroking vanity. However, most everyone here has said what I could possibly say and exceeded it with their own praise for a truly exceptional band. I guess I'll go back to trouncing those twits who think "Mister Mister" were genious!

  • They were known in England as The Beat not 'The English Beat'. In England we eat muffins, not 'English muffins'.

  • @WilliamGruff Yeah i agree. Only saw The Beat on my record labels!

  • Well, I think this was done because of Paul Collins's American group called The Beat, who were recording and having minor hits in the 1978-80 period, too.

  • @myrecordcollection That makes sense. I wasn't addressing Americans so much as my compatriots who are sufficiently insufficient as to ask for English Muffins. Loss, or destruction, of cultural identity is one of the reasons why we are in such a mess here. Make sure it doesn't happen there.

  • I understand completely. I've lived in the USA all my life, but I always really find it frustrating how when people here mention places in Canada, they always say "Canada"--as if if they just say "Toronto" or "Vancouver," nobody will know what they're talking about. I think we all owe it to each other to know where the world's major cities are located.

  • @myrecordcollection However, I think that on the web, which is owned by no nation, it might be better to describe bands from different countries with the same name as, for instance The Beat (American) and The Beat (English). Purely my opinion of course.

  • Dance to the beat!!!!

  • Good on you Isabelle87 - MORE !!!! Gotta be one of the best dance bands of all time!

  • Fantastic band!

  • brilliant

  • I like the vibraphone section...

  • The Beat are STILL one of my favourite bands! Such wonderful music X

  • @127quinn its british trough and through with elements of jamaican thrown in and a dash of brummie.

  • 2 blues and and special brew

  • I was knocking around as an 18yr old then... how good was it back then ?

Fuck they were the good old days !

  • @habaneroo

  • one of the greatest ever in ska and two tones feeling. always remember since the eighties. so nice to have them here...

  • Every song was good off this album...

  • Going to see them in brighton this friday.... can't wait

  • I saw these guys live, well only one but it was still great. The singer was there but the rest were stand ins or something.

  • They had to be called The English Beat in the states, because there was already a band called The Beat from way back when.

  • fdonohoe;;; ARE YOU REALLY THAT DUMB????

  • let him google it lol you gotta be a real fan to know dis fdonohoe

  • i have the original album, and they're called THE BEAT, not the english beat. thats their real name. whats with this "english" shit

  • There's two Beats now. There's the one in the UK still known as the Beat with many of the original members. Then in the US they are called the English Beat and that one has the original white guy singer.

  • great show in chicago with fishbone!

    oh zzz memories

  • The English Beat is still recognized by many as one of the coolest bands ever! They created a compendium of timeless romantic, uplifting, introspective, and simply seductive tunes which will never be forgotten. What a treasure these are!*!

  • @VikingRaider its the beat mate

  • @badboy300568 --Love'em regardless!!!

  • This gem, Stand Down Margaret, I Confess etc made up the soundtrack of my college life. Anyone knows the brains behind the 'Just Can't Stop It' album sleeve and accompanying images? What eye for the cool!

  • OMG!!!!! I haven't seen the LP image in over 25 years! Back in College The English Beat was ALWAYS on the turntable!

    Thanks....

  • love this song used to go backstage at there gigs as my uncle was the drummer lol

  • Epic! I never get tired of the Beat- In high school in the mid 80's this is all I listened too-

  • This and Cant get use to loosing you are the best ever. god bless the Beat.

  • As many Beat, Bad Manners, Madness, Specials, etc, devotees there are you'd think there would be a stronger ska presence in todays music. What the hell?

  • My favorite Beat song. Fantastic.

  • i wore this cassette out

  • could someone tell me where this 'english' beat name comes from? i just know them as the beat

  • In England and almost everywhere else they are known as "The Beat" but there was a band in the early 70's also named the beat. To avoid confusion they go by the English beat in the Northeast part of the States

  • thanks for that,

  • Comment removed

  • North America.

  • @funkg

I think the reason for them being called the English Beat outside the UK was due to a clash/copyright of names with another band of the same name.

  • Mr steviebabe: LOL!!!! I love that roll too!

  • Glad to make you LOL!!!!

Just another great track to singalong to!

  • The harmonies, the melodies, the hooks...The Beat!

  • Creo que este disco en Argentina lo tuvimos 5 gatos locos... lo escucho despues de 20 años y me sigue sonando excelente.. que bueno que estan de vuelta..

  • Isabelle87 and butterbean:

It's actually "Get your hands off me, Darta." I forget what it means but Roger used tons of words that he either made up or were real obscure expressions.

Check the beginning of the live version at Hollywood Park and Dave says it pretty clearly there.

    Great song, great band.

  • actually butterbean is right. Darta...Dawta...same difference. But he's right about the meaning.

  • Fuckin' class. Yip ...I think that just about covers it!

  • roll on Aug.16th 2009....Colchester arts centre

  • Of all the 80s albums I have (and yep, got quite a few) the ones that hold up the best are The Beat and The Pretenders... now there's a reunion tour....

  • the jewel in the crown of my all-time favrit lp

  • Its not daughter, alot of people think thats what hes saying. Its Dawta, meaning daughter; woman, good woman friend. In the case of this song he means keep your hands off my woman.

  • Wow I haven't heard this in FOREVER - class tune!!! :-)

  • They where at Rocking the Colonies concert in Vegas and I went and saw them~!!! It was so~ awesome!

  • HANDS OFF SHES ME DAUGTHER SHIT HOT

  • I saw these guys twice in the early 80's. Both shows were simply amazing. There playing at the Belly Up in Solana Beach,Ca Feb 27-28th. I will be there.

  • It is just wonderful.

    God bless 'em.

  • to those that wish they were back together. They've been back I've sen them three times in the last 2 years even got to meet dave once. last i heard they were touring the west coast

  • yeah i saw em too.

  • I saw the English Beat back when I was about 15 at an outdoor theater in Toronto Canada. Bow Wow Wow opened for them! It was amazing!!

  • Wow, good stuff. I'd sacrifice a testicle to see these guys in their prime. only 19, so I never has a chance to really see them

  • yep that was the smae with me :(

  • Ranking Roger threw a drumstick at my mate's head (unintentionally) Lincoln, NE 1982

  • Thanks for the lyrics

  • rb7007

I couldn't agree with you more my friend.

I grew up with this music and for many years I have felt that something was missing. I was 13 in 1981 and I was into this music BIG TIME. As time went on I thought that it had all gone by. Then I discovered "THE BEAT" had gone to the US as "THE ENGLISH BEAT" and had become a huge sucess over there.

I wish that they would come home and do a tour.

  • My oh my today's kids dont know what they missed. I was 12 in 81 but didnt discover this band until 84. Being a teenager in the Eightees was special. No worries , had the whole world at our fingers. Now I'm 39 on Tricor for high triglicrides and a responsible haircut.

  • they defonatly dont.

  • One of my favourite groups as a kid.

Used to love Ranking Roger's "Toasting" (LoL)!!!

    Those were the days.

  • the best ska band by far wish they would get back together

  • The Beat, The darts, The specials, Third world, Madness, UB 40....

  • sur l'album "i cant'stop it " de THE BEAT ...je me souviens bien de ce 33 tours... un groupe magique !! une perle cet album ! un son FM venu de nulle part ! les albums ONE STEP BEYOND - et SPECIALS n'arrivent pas à sa hauteur !!!

  • Thanks for posting this memorable 1980s classic. pure class .....
