  • Well, I am German and here are my Top 5 German cities to visit:

    1.Berlin

2."Ruhrgebiet"(actually that´s a region of many cities growing together...the only megacity in Germany)

    3.Hamburg (Yes,home of hamburgers,just deal with it,yankees..)

4.Cologne (about 50km south of Ruhrgebiet, especially at "Karneval":more drunk people than at the Oktoberfest in Munich and they´re dressed up too.)

5.Munich (only at "Oktoberfest" as the city is beautiful but pretty much sucks when you´re not drunk...)

  • Actually I should have put Ruhrgebiet first....you´ll be amazed how large this thing is.

6 mio. citizens altogether, 5 of Germany´s 20 biggest cities are part of Ruhrgebiet or "Der Pott" (the pot) as we people from the region call it. The region was known for its heavy industry (steel forges and coal mines) but has transformed to an important centre of banks and insurance companies. If you wonder where Germany´s wealth throughout the 20th century came from...this is the place.

  • "Ruhrgebiet" is the northern part of an even larger metropolitan region called "Rhein-Ruhr" which also includes Cologne and Düsseldorf.

We got it all, museums, historical towns (visit Hattingen near Essen to see Germany´s oldest intact houses),theatres, musical halls, football stadiums (visit a match of BVB09 Dortmund vs. FC Schalke04,when the region´s most popular teams clash together for a soccer fight you´ll never forget...),shopping centres and malls everywhere, clubs, great pubs, etc.

  • Really nice recommendations. You also have to try the franconian wine! ;) There are not only two but three wine areas: Rhein, Model and Main

  • @cthun13 I love Mosel riesling. spent a few weeks there years ago... its where i fell in love with wine. great point to make and a great recommendation. thank you!

  • Hey Wolter, watch me on my roof top above Berlin and enjoy the amazing view. Thank you for your interesting opinion and view about Germany. Keep it up!

  • @BerlinGroove Don't fall! :) used to live in berlin and i miss the city so much. 3 years there was great. i am glad you found my opinoins interesting :) love germany and the great people. hope you will subscribe! all the best!

  • I live near bamberg!

  • @TheGoldenRoses And you can drink fresh rauchbier everyday :)

I AM JEALOUS!!!!! CAN YOU ADOPT ME :)

Honestly thank you for watching and commenting! hope you will subscribe!

  • For people who want to see more "Fachwerk": Use Google with keywords "freudenberg alter flecken" and klick on the images section.

  • @Astrofrank thanks for the heads up. Good to know for next time. alles gutes!

  • Very nice top ten! And your son is cute - good work! ;)

  • @WeirdHerb Thanks, I found him on the street ;)

Honestly I am glad you like the top ten. And thanks for all the great comments. I hope you will subscribe.

  • For old American tourists who want to see some old buildings and buy some souvenirs this might be a good list...

  • @Hhutuber Yeah, the ones that spend a lot of money and want to see the culture and the beautiful cities :) if you want to party like a rockstar then there is ruhrgebiet, cologne, hamburg, and berlin for some kick ass parties and clubs... does that help at all ;)

thanks for watching and commenting! please i hope you will subscribe! and give me some ideas for other places to visit so i can make a new video for "less" old people ;) visiting germany

  • @woltersworld

Sorry it shouldn't sound offensive... I just wanna say that it's for young people more important to make unique experiences abroad. They could do a canyoning track in the Alps, visite the old mines under Dortmund, have a BBQ at the Elbstrand next to the Hamburg Habour ... or yeah party like a rockstar in Berlin.

...and, in my opinion, it's a must to visit a KZ memorial, like Dachau or Buchenwald. It's a important part of German history.

    That's what I would do.

    Grüße

  • @Hhutuber No offense was taken :) I love having extra comments and ideas on here. I agree on the concentration camps. I have visited 6 in Germany and each one was a unique experience that I think everyone should check out. And the cultural experiences like you said are just as great for understanding today's Germany. These are definately things people living in germany should do. i was just shooting for tourists that will just be in germany a couple weeks and not sure what the main cities were

  • @Hhutuber and i really appreciate your ideas and comments. thank you so much!

  • @woltersworld - as you mention the ruhrgebiet... have you made any videos there? :)

  • @flowfish86 No, I was spending lots of time there in the early and mid 2000s all before I started the Wolters World videos. I do have some pictures and videos from that time, but they would be "NSFW" if you know what i mean :)

  • @woltersworld I'm not sure if i want to know what kind of pictures and videos you've made in that time that would be NSFW - but the next time i accidently (*cough*) watch some german adult entertainment from that time i'll have a closer look at the male actor :D

May i ask where you've been in the Ruhrgebiet? I'm just curious because it's the place i live :)

  • Yeah,Görlitz is mostly underrated,or unknown. But its the only town in germany who has a undestroyed cityscape from the middleage to the 20th century...i was there in 1989 and in transit to poland in the early 90ies.......btw,nice blog :)

  • I love your son, he's so cute :)

I'm German but I'm in England for four weeks. And I love it. The people are so friendly and politely

  • @EmiOranje Thank you :) he is in about 10 of our videos. I like his "help" with Learn German for kids video. He says Gummibaerchen as one of his 5 German words for traveling kids :)

Thanks for commenting and watching! hope you will subscribe and have a great time in the UK!

  • I love the fact that you've mentioned görlitz there aren't many people going into the deep wild east of germany :D

  • @lieblingwiesel0815 You have to see it all before you can truly make a list of the best places :) I also like stralsund but that is another story :) thanks for watching and commenting!

  • one place i'd advice you to visit is Hannover when the festive of the great garden (a lovely baroque garden) is up. lots of jugglers, musicians, standups, clowns and whatnot. more acts than you can watch in one go. your lil son will remember this forever.

it'll take place in summer, no date fixed yet but have a look at kleines-fest(dot)de

  • @Luuutz Have been there. It is beautiful in the gardens. Though my favorite place or at least the place i end up the most is Ernst August Brauhaus :) you should see my video on German Beer... I filmed it in the Brauhaus there in Hannover :)

Thanks again for commentingand watching! Alles gutes!

  • Hamburg *-* is my favourite city

  • FRANKFURT ;)!?

  • Nürnberg is not in the List ? O_O ???

  • Go to Detmold ;) NRW near of Bielefeld.

  • @MrsPueppilein Bielefeld... i think i still have a "Kater" from the last time I was there :)

  • @woltersworld hahaha....

  • No.9 if you're visiting the Moselle River Valley don't forget to move to the Rhine Valley. In Koblenz the Moselle flows into the Rhine.Going upstream from Koblenz there's the world cultural heritage "Mittelrheintal" ending in Rüdesheim on one side and Bingen on the other side. There's no place in Germany where are more castles to see like here. You can see the "Marksburg" a complete retained castle, and also see the "Lorely rock" and the "Burg Pfalz"

a custom castle in the middle of the river.

  • @MyNexus500 Great Add! Thank You! Definately Great Checking Out the Rhine for the Amazing Castles (and a bit of the wine too)

    Danke Schoen!!!

  • Not to mention the beautiful isle of "Rügen" and "Hiddensee"; watch out for the chalk cliffside near a place calles "Sassnitz", go skinni-dipping (if you like to), the water isn't very salty there. And last but not least: Baden-Baden, the no. 1 spa in Germany. Irish-Roman baths (thermal water), great 19th century casino, great museums (Burda Museum), lots of castles, the 2nd largest opera house of Europe, beautiful and famous alley with great park, mediterranean atmosphere etc. ...

  • speaking of churches: go on google maps, type "Wieskirche" and check out the photos; it's a terrific church right in the middle of nowhere, southern Bavaria, near Neuschwanstein. The first time I went there I was surprised that there could be such an awesome church in the country.

  • Cochem & Burg Eltz <3 :)

  • I think, you have to put Jena on your visiting list! :)

It's an interesting mix of old buildings and new architecture. Cities in western Germany are pretty different to those in the east. Here you have a big part of young peoples, because in Jena are students from all over the world, which are one more reason for visiting!

  • Hi Mark! I'm going to Berlin this Tuesday for a couple of days. Time to watch some woltersworld Berlin videos :D

  • @FS2004AviationPro Just wish I had put together my love/hate and top ten berlin for you before hand! i have a bunch of learning german videos filmed there and i lived there for almost 3 years. love the city! you will have a blast! go to the pergamon museum it is the best on museum island.

Happy Holidays! and have a safe and fun trip!

  • @woltersworld Thanks for the info! Merry Christmas and I hope you have Happy Holidays as well! :)

  • the ruhr area is the most interesting part of germany

  • @paulabo123 Ruhrgebiet does have some of the best clubs in Germany that is for sure :)

  • Heidelberg!

  • @BigDamm211 Great town! I agree. I have been three times and each time I loved it. THe views from the castle are amazing.

  • My Friend in Bonn wants to show me Lepzig & East Germany, He says it is Different from the West. Also I want to check out some places in the "Hartz" mountains... Not sure if that is how you spell it.

  • @FuneralDust666 Harz are great. i have some videos from the harz on here. you may have seen them when learing some german. Quedlinburg and Wernigerode are the two best. Goslar is right htere too and is super nice. We spent Christmas by there a couple years ago. i have been to the harz 4 times and LOVE it! you will have a blast

  • You and I got the same pullover/jacket thing!

  • @Parkerkun I have the H&M and Zara ones. I had one and lost it so bought the other. Not sure which one this is though. i will check as it is the one i still own :)

THanks for commenting and having great fashion taste :)

  • And what about Hamburg? Hamburg ist also a beautiful city

  • @bianca912347 It is a beautiful city. I have been there many times and have had a great time each time. Great shopping too.

  • Lübeck!

  • @SchergeSatans yeah, Lubeck was right there at the cut off. I love it there. the gates and the marzipan. great town to visit.

  • @woltersworld I was born in Lübeck :)

  • @SchergeSatans SO does that mean you are required to eat like 10 kilos of marzipan a year? i just remember marzipan EVERYWHERE in Lubeck. Great town though. Happy holidays!

  • @woltersworld I like marzipan, but only in combination with chocolate :)

  • BAMBERG das HERZ Frankens :D

Bamberg is the BEST German Citie ;)

  • Where is Bonn

  • @NoizeBoiz right next to cologne :)

  • @woltersworld i know i actually live there (in bonn) but why didn't you show it ?

  • @NoizeBoiz I was joking there :) Yeah, I really like Bonn and the museums are amazing. I probably should have smushed Bonn with Cologne to have 11 cities in the top ten. Love Bonn do not worry about that! Thanks for commenting and watching!

  • Düsseldorf ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BlueflyCandy7 Good beer there... very good beer there.

  • Heidelberg :)) <3

  • hamburg <3

  • You have good taste. I think you have seen much of Germany - so good choice. I don't like Berlin that much, but well - it is definitly interesting. People who choose only the big cities and have a list like Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt , Stuttgart, Nuremberg in my opinion are very ignorant towords the many beautiful small cities (which are comparatively much better than the big cities if you compare to other countries) or have no clue of Germany!

  • I'm so glad you mentioned Quedlinburg, it's amazingly beautiful ant the prototype of a german, mideval town. But many Harz towns are beautiful, like wernigerode, or Goslar.

  • 1.Hamburg

    2.Heidelberg

    3.München

    4.Frankfurt

    5.Suttgart

  • sprichs du deutsch ?

  • @XDGamersTravelerXD ja ich kann ein bisschen deutsch. nur ein paar worte... wie... ich... brauche... ein... Bier... bitte... oder...ich sterbe... hilf mir... :)

  • Potsdam is the finest.

  • Görlitz <3 my hometown :)

  • Thanks man. Heading over there next week! I´ll check some of these out.

  • @XV4444 They are all worth it. and there are many more places too. so i know you will have a blast. and gain about 10 pounds from beer and various pork dishes :)

    Thanks fro watchign and commenting!

  • 1. Berlin 2. Hamburg 3. München 4. Köln 5. Frankfurt/Main 6. Leipzig 7. Heidelberg 8. Nürnberg 9. Düsseldorf 10. Dresden

Remember Worldcup 2006. "Die Welt zu Gast bei Freunden" / "A Time to make friends"

  • @pitter28366 good list. i like it. thanks for watching and commenting

  • @pitter28366 Number one is the city of Görlitz!!

  • yes....with white wine...Mosel.....righton that as well...love KOBLENZ @!!! :))

  • @kumral76 mmm.... mosel wine... so tasty...

  • HE'S RIGHT...we 've been living in Germany , went to Bamberg x-mas market trip...it was awesome, very original, historic! nothing fake! MOST RECOMMENDED....smoked beer was nt our thing though....

  • you forgot to say HAMBURG !!! <3

    though nice video:D

  • Are ther good Germans ?

  • @eliaviel1 there are good Germans. I know quite a few personally that I call true friends. I lived there and love the country.

  • @eliaviel1

    the question is...are you stupid?

  • @plasticboy81 Most people say that my intelligence is above the average. I would shift the word 'stupid' with 'tactless'. As for my comments below, it is an impulse of some negative feelings I feel towards Germans.

  • @eliaviel1

so yout think that you are a smart person?

that makes you even more stupid...

  • Germany=beautiful,tidy,clean,Nazi,Hitller,racist,monster,inhumane,cold,evil,genocide,homicide,murder,Aucshwitz,civilised,culture,Beethoven,Mozart,Bach,hatred,beer,

  • @eliaviel1 I can't erase these words from my mind. They almost instinctively pop into my mind

  • @eliaviel1 -.- whats your problem dude.

  • @eliaviel1 I'm not sure if you're just a troll or if you're really genuine, but I'm going to assume the latter. Please come to Germany and see for yourself what it is like. Prejudice and hatred will get you nowhere.

  • @anitasassassine I appreciate your comments. As for being a troll or genuine, I must admit I 'm the both. Being a troll does not necessarily disconnect me from saying what I really feel. When I read on youtube antisemitic comments from many people ( including Germans ) I become less and less tolerant and acceptive .

  • @eliaviel1 Granted. But, you know, when I read anti-German comments on youtube about how we're supposedly all Nazis and cold-hearted, inhumane and homicidal monsters, I get just a little bit irritated. Clearly none of you people have ever made an effort getting to know a German (or have come to Germany for that matter) which makes it even worse because you have no reason to dislike us other than some comments of a few lunatics on youtube.

  • @HoneyBadger19801 I am not so picky.... I just love drinking my beer anywhere ;)

Thanks for watching and commenting and go enjoy a beer for me by the lake! (i am back in the US now)

  • Hey @woltersworld ! Though I already am a German, I love to watch your videos. :D

I, myself, live in a little city called "Darmstadt" (south of Frankfurt/Main). It's the official "city of Europe" (14 partner cities), city of science (mp3 was invented here, chemical element 112 was discovered...) and especially center of Art Noveau (pretty famous "Mathildenhoehe")! We also got the third biggest public festival of Germany, the "Heinerfest", here! If you ever have nothing to do, take a look! :D

  • @TheWheelie24 Heinerfest... sounds interesting. When does it happen? I just moved back to the US after 13 years in Europe and South America, but we are looking to head back to Europe in a couple years to work again and I want to get to more festivals like Heinerfest in order to make more culture videos (you can help me if you are there when I get back to Germany).

I am glad you love the videos. and thanks for watching, commenting and giving me suggestions. I always like to know more! :)

  • @woltersworld Thanks for your reply! I'd love to help you! :D

Heinerfest ('cause the "natives" in Darmstadt call each other "Die Heiner") is always around the weekend on the 1st Sunday in July. It's like a big fanfair in the city center, but with the title of "city of Europe" there's also lots of culture with people from the partner cities (Graz/Trondheim e.g.) visiting & doing something typical from their country.

Darmstadt's not Hamburg or Dresden of course, but worth to be seen once. :)

  • @TheWheelie24 sounds like a fun time. if i am in Germany around that time i will definately bring the family by. Thanks for the explanation and info!

    mark

  • bestes Land auf dem Planeten

  • i like it so much that you like my city dresden! :))))) ich werde deine videos jetz öfter mal ansehen, sie helfen mir der englischen sprache mächtig zu werden. ich lerne noch. ;)

  • 5. Oldenburg (near of Bremen)

  • @SchokiLP i will need to check that out next time I am in Germany. thanks!

  • 1. Hamburg

    2. Hamburg

    3. Hamburg

    4. Hamburg

    5. Hamburg

    6. Hamburg

    7. Hamburg

    8. Hamburg

    9. Hamburg

    10. Hamburg

  • @IHeartSydney2

Hamburg is overrated, especiallay by the Hamburgers :) I prefere my little Bremen.

  • @Muhlineks I'm not a Hamburger. Too me, Bremen is not worth a visit, it's ordinary at best. But good for you, lots of people prefer their own little villages to great cities.

  • @IHeartSydney2

in comperison to Berlin, Hamburg is ordinary. It's often called the most boring big city in Germany. And Hamburg is the only federal state in Germany, which doesn't have a world cultural herritage.

  • @Muhlineks In comparison to Berlin, Hamburg is ordinary??? I have lived 5 years in both cities (I currently live in Berlin and will be moving back to Hamburg eventually) and I absolutely disagree. Since you seem to live in Bremen you should not be talking about things you have no idea of.

  • Niemcy = Wielka Brytania i Francja

  • Hamburg ist beste Stadt in Deutschland.

Ist es nicht , diggers ?

  • and it also has 66 coments......scary

  • NOT Bielefeld

  • @snaccount2 du hast nichts verpasst ;) hahahahaha :)

  • Cochem yeeees. beautiful place! :)

  • whow 666 videos

  • @poprambomarine scary isn't it? ;)

  • @woltersworld yes it is bro!xD

  • whow 66 videos

  • Holy Shit Bacon Beer! Fucking CULT!

  • Thank you for uploading it. I like the medieval architechture of these citys too. But i was never in Quedlinburg. During watching the vid i wondered if you will have Lübeck on your list and so it was then. Being in Portugal now you have to face many differences i suppose. Don´t let the Fado make you too sad. But enjoy the sun and the food. Greetings from Hamburg

  • @honigdachsfan Thanks. Good old hamburg, that is a fun city. Have not been there for a couple years though. But always have had a good time while i was. Thanks for watching and commenting! mfg

  • The first person who said that he likes Rauch (Smoke) Beer. Bamberg is beautiful. But this beer is awful. It´s like licking ashes.

  • 1. Hamburg

    2. Berlin

    3. München

    4. Frankfurt

    etc.

  • @RnB4U7 alter. frankfurt ist sone scheissstadt.

  • HAHA, what are the top five WORST? anyone email me or post a reply

  • @edwardwills Leipzig is the only place i was attacked by any neonazis/penner idiots :)

  • @edwardwills

Actually all bigger cities in Germany have places which are interesting, it depends on your interests!

If you look for big trade fairs you should visit Hanover or Frankfurt, if you like historical things you should visit towns like Dresden, Heidelberg, Würzburg, ... for night-life Berlin or Hamburg.

  • @Hhutuber I agree with you 100%, all the cities have quite a bit, but its best to decide what you are looking for in Germany, the "cute castle" Germany, or the "crazy night life' Germany or whatever. There are lots of options for anyone regardless of what kind of trip you are looking for.

  • where is FINSTERWALDE in your list, mister wolters???

kisses for you and your family...

  • wo ist FINSTERWALDE in deiner liste????

where is FINSTERWALDE in your list???

  • I am from Germany

    1. Dresden

    2. Berlin

    3. Hamburg

    4. Nuremberg

    5. Bremen

  • Actually, Germany has got SO huge amount of SUPERB medieval (and "post-medieval"!) cities - I do believe they get more than 200 hundred of those worth 2 B visited! He couldn't tell 'bout the next 16 places: Stuttgart, Passau, Dresden, Münster, Frankfurt/M, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Aachen, Wuppertal, Freiburg, Wiesbaden and much smaller Celle, Marburg, Baden-Baden, Wernigerode and... tiny Bernkastel-Kues(!). Mark my words: last 5 are the places where the wildest americam dreams 'bout Europe come true!

  • @Hollandia777 I agree there are tons of great places in Germany. I have been to over 70 towns/cities in Germany and i also love wernigerode, regensburg, nuremburg, rothenburg, celle, stralsund, lubeck, hamburg, hameln, heidelberg.. the list goes on and on. love it, lived there for 3 years and have been to germany every year since 1996. i love it and lets hope more people visit and enjoy it. thank you for writing and watching!

  • @woltersworld

Used 2 live in Berlin (a city built 2 go mad 'bout!) Fürthermore, I crossed Ger-y many times - since it's a heart of Europe, 1 almost always has 2 do it 12 get some other country! :D). Their image is pretty overshadowed - with some exagerration! - by the WWII thus makin' it a bit underestimated place 4 those who travel to Europe. Plus - it's still Centr. Europe, not a Western1 (and that REALLY counts!) Anyway, I hope it's gonna B re-discovered, very soon. Perfection works always!

  • @woltersworld

    "Exaggeration", of course! :D

  • have you ever been to nepal........country of himalyan

  • @rosen143roja not yet. that is probably about 3 to 5 years away. we are doing europe travel for the next year, then USA and South American travel 2011-2013 then we may be heading to Asia. but would love to go!

  • Beer that taste like bacon xD Wolter watch out your weight lol

  • @PeterLustig0306 yeah... its tough... you should see some of my latest videos. i have had a few too many of the bacon beer (big old santa claus belly now)

but damn that bacon beer is good (rauchbier)

  • Have you been to the island of sylt?

  • @TheCed88 no i have had a chance to visit it yet.

  • @TheCed88 I've been 2 Husum - "Der graue Stadt am Meer". But...though it lies in North Friesland as well - it's not the same! :DD

  • @Schenkel93 my studies were up and i couldn't stay so i headed back to the US. Then i went to Lithuanian and Brazil and now I work in Portugal. Hopefullly one day I will head back to Germany with my whole family. Thank you for commenting!

  • were the fuck is hamburg

  • @MistahPink95 Hamburg is in the north of Germany. ^^

  • @MistahPink95

"where the fuck is hamburg ?"

the most americans are so stupid and uninterested in other countrys in world...a classmate had been for a few weeks in america,i think it was huntington....they asked him if hitler is still alive (65 years after ww2)..

but thats usa...they feel like god,are so proud,in school you just learn things about your country, you do not learn other languages...

hmm....i would like to visit usa one time, but i always stay in my city - Hamburg!

    NUR DER HSV ;)

  • @Raddikcc= Hamburg is in Northern Germany. It is the second largest city in Germany, and it's port is the third largest port of Europe. The Beatles performed there in the sixties, and heavy metal was popular there in the Eighties. Not all of us are retarded. Stop judging a whole country because of a few bad apples. You don't see us stereotyping your country.

  • @vigo894

you're right...i have to correct my sentendes.... not "most" americans are stupid, but "a lot " of them...

why you know some things about Hamburg? ...where you learned that? that would interest me ...

    or asking google/wikipedia ? :) ;)

  • @Raddikcc= I studied German history in school, and fell in love with it. At first it was just Bavaria and Berlin, then I decided to see what else Germany has to offer.I like the model railway museum they got.

  • I am from germany and I am an exchange student in the USA right now. If you wanna visit Germany you actually dont need to learn German 'cause most of the tourist citys have English guids. So have fun there:)

  • i'm German and i hate Germany -.-

  • Are you German ? My ancesters came from Germany . I think it would be so cool to visit and find out where my family may have came from.

  • Ok great I will check the rest of your videos out. Thanks agian for the info.

  • If I was going to visit Germany shoud I learn to speek German ?

  • @jpf72801 its not required. the germans speak english pretty well, just with a strong accent. if you are staying in bavaria by munich and such or near Cologne then you will have no problem with English, if you go to smaller towns then some german will help. I have a few videos on here for learning basic german and that may help, also my website has a lot of learning german help. just look in the more info part of the video and you will see the link there. have a great trip!

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the videos on Germany. I allways wanted to go .

  • @jpf72801 its a great place. lived there a few years and really loved it. thanks for the comments
