Sing the song myself in the Sean Nos style, sang it in many's an All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil, fantastic version and a wonderful video that captures the song brilliantly, keep up the good work :-)
We Cornish have also suffered under the imperial boot of the Sawsnek. You are a beacon - the first independent Celtic Nation. Hope we can rely on your brotherhood in our own struggle. We also need to be free!
@TheRenardpoint - Don’t procrastinate if you don’t know the answer, just say so. It was a serious question. I’ll try again. What is the name of the singer of this song who is a friend of yours?
Great singing. Love this song which is, as mentioned, about Cahersiveen. The place names mentioned, like Letter, Doneen, Carhan River and Beenatee are all around Caher.
This song only has the same name as a pub in dingle, but the wren tradition is still huge in dingle thats where the mix up usually comes from, the song is about cahirciveen
no its about the top street of Cahersiveen! The song is based on a poem by Sigerson Clifford, who was born in Cahersiveen, and it tells the story of the boys of Barr Na Sraide Top Street who hunted for the wren. The poem recalls the life of his boyhood friends starting from when they were young children through to the Black and Tan period, and up to the civil war.
Thank you for youre your kind comments wlftone: The singer is just me and my guitar Im afraid I have a catalogue of my own songs about 1916 and the WOI which I hope to start posting when I get back from New York at the end of the month Take care!
