I believe if you look closely, virtually all of the so-called "spineless" votes the dems have been casting revolve around the war, defense, surveillance, etc. It is simple why they've capitulated on this stuff. They know how idiotic people in their district or state can be with regard to them appearing "weak" on national defense. If an elected rep appears to be "weak on terror," s/he simply has no chance of winning in his/her district or State. Hence these "spineless" votes - it's strategic.

As president, Paul would have great influence, but both Congress and Senate of State and federal governments would have to start electing Paul type people. Otherwise, we're in trouble.

It's not as easy as guys like Hannity and Limbaugh. They use cheat sheets and insults. It's a lot easier when you insult people and say the same thing over and over rather than actually do it without any notes. If you listen to Hannity or other conservative talk shows, they call people communist or idiot and then just repeat the same seven thoughts they have on paper over and over.

I think you need to go case by case. Don't lump people like Kucinich, Feingold, Leahy, etc. w/ the rest of the weak-kneed footdraggers who are facilitiating the Republican takeover. Also, political backbone is largely a function of activism. I lay at least some of the blame at the feet of the American people, who have not brought pressure to bear with some serious, unignorable noise.
Act Blue is a lot like Russ Feingold's Progressive Patriots Fund, which is also worth checking out.

Corporatism has grown in the U.S. with republicans, but now they are getting off the hook for their illegal acts by democrats. This is terrible. Im glad that over half the dems there voted against this blot on the bill of rights. May the Senate sink this abomination.

agreed. More diversity in the political discourse is needed however. The current media establishment still has a tight grip over what is "acceptable" political dialogue. Its gonna have to be grassroots in order to make a difference.

Cenk have you ever read War and Peace? Tolstoy included a wonderful essay in the middle of the book that brilliantly explains power and history. The more power one has the fewer choices one has. Tolstoy explains it better. The Democrats right now are being forced to act the way that they are by circumstances about which we have no knowledge. There is a great thread on DU that attempts to explain their capitulation on telecom retro-immunity. It makes alot of sense.

You might reasonably expect that each Dem rep and senator examines her/his situation and behaves in a sensible manner in order to maintain his/her incumbency. The idea is to maintain and build Dem power in the legislator; to accomplish this, the Dems are having to play along for now.

You're totally right. Same as The Daily Show, when democrats are made fun of, it never attacks their intelligence or their policies. Saying he hates democrats more than republicans is just his attempt to try to seem "unbiased", but it's a misleading statement.

Cenk is (as he says from time to time) 100% right, 0% wrong. The only course of action is to support the Democrats but constantly run BETTER Democrats against the incumbents in primaries. I have the same Rep. Cenk does (Waxman) and agree he's pretty good. Could he be even better? Absolutely. I'll be glad to vote for an "even better" Democrat, even though I kind of like Waxman. Tell you what, if he voted for this immunity bullshit, I'll definitely vote for someone different in the next one.

I recognize as much as the next guy that Fox News puts out republican swill, but any dem who latches onto the "Fox calls Michele Obama a terrorist for fist bumping" loses total credibility. If you even watch the whole video, Fox News reported on how signals like these (as well as Bush's "chest bump") can be misconstrued. Don't sacrifice intelligence just to ride the Hate Fox News bandwagon.
