  • I fucking love this book!!!!! Best book of all time.

  • i forgot about rorschach's death. why doctor manhattan why did you kill him

  • CYRSE YOU OZYMANDIAS YOU CAUSED THE DEATH OF COMEDIAN

  • rorschach in a nutshell... (NOT A QUOTE) "justice means killing the murderer"

Think of him as a calm deadpool

  • I'm getting this book and the movie.

  • heros

  • so what's the comedian powers pluse I really didn't understand why the guy wanted to kill the Herod

  • @jayc311311 Uh...here's the thing; only Dr. Manhattan has super powers. The other three are just at the peak of Physcial abiltiies.

  • *Roar-shack

  • What song is that?

  • When I first heard about Watchmen, I was sorta skepticle; I just thought it was people getting beaten and utterly slaughtered throughout the whole book. When the movie hit, I was still kinda skeptic about it. But now, one year later after the movie hit, I went to my local library and checked out Watchmen . . . Best Comic I've Ever Read BY FAR! I'm really glad now that I actually got to read it :)

  • Watergate did happen in WATCHMEN. The Comedian says, " I haven't had this much fun since Woodward and Bernstein". This means that Nixon had The Comedian kill them before they exposed Watergate. So, Watergate happened, but nobody ever knew about it.

  • I have a question about the ending, when that person at the news paper publishing place, when he found the Rorchach journal, Does that pretty much mean there's gona be armageddon?

  • pretty good overview. I love the comic book AND the movie; both were very entertaining in terms of story and character.

btw it's just WATCHMEN; there's no "The" in the title, sorry 2 b a nitpick

  • I really loved Watchmen, then again so most comic book followers. I hated the agrrement most characters made at the end to keep World peace, they could have done it anyway , but aditionally killed Ozymandis, I mean what he did was so evil and he got away with it, come on. Well the book is cyinical so that is why my favorite character is the comedian , a guy who serves his country and never pretends to be a hero, because none of the Watchmen are.

  • I read the book and saw the movie. One thing that was a little better in the movie is that they made the Comedian look younger when they had flash backs-no offense to Dave Gibbons-in the book he looked like he was 40 when they showed him as a teenager

  • Watchmen is the comic to give people to read who think comics are stupid, it's so complex and deep, it raises questions, it's simply great.

  • speaking of, could you do a v for vendetta 101?

  • I Hate the movie, But The comic rocks!

  • I heard this is the greatest comic book ever written.

  • Read for yourself and believe.

  • @spidersting101 It is.

  • @spidersting101 More like a Marxist wet dream. The anti-Reagan Leftists really ate this stuff up, and have since promoted this comic as hard as they can.

The comic itself is pretty shallow and clearly ideological. The movie was much better.

  • @spidersting101

    you heard correctly

  • it made me cry

  • song please

  • the beginning is the end is the beginning by smashing pumpkins

  • Great video. That was really a good read. I read it today and was surprised at how good it was. One question is it true that Rosorach sent the info to the newspaper or something like that I heard this from a freind. And am confused?

  • Yes, he did. He drops the journal into the mail box as he and Dan are flying to Karnak. At the end, Seymour reaches toward the journal and the book ends. We are left with three possible outcomes:

No one listens. It's the New Frontiersman. Nobody likes those "Right-wing nutjobs". The peace lasts.

People listen, and Ozymandias is ostracized. Peace holds on or doesn't.

People naturally will have disagreements. This may lead to war. The peace does not last.

    Draw your own conclusions.

  • ive got a quick question 4 u, y do u think the writers decided to kill off Rorschach, i mean he was the coolest character in the book, and the movie

  • The writer (Alan Moore) said that "there was no way Rorschach was to survive the entire story because the character was in so much mental pain that Rorschach really only wanted to die honourably" another reason could be that it shows how strong Rorschach beliefs are, in that he shall

"Never compromise, not even in the face of armageddon" or death.

  • Themanofchan, Rorschach could have easily just lied to Dr. Manhattan, waited for him to leave the planet, and THEN blew the whistle on Veidt. I mean really, you don't give the God the finger unless you WANT to die.

  • Um...no.

Dr. Manhattan's perspective on time would have made that impossible. He would have known anyway, and he did know that the world could not be peaceful if Ozymandias had been revealed as the puppetmaster.

Answering Bladebreaker's question: Rorschach, was uncompromising. Not to mention, had he not died, the last page would not have been possible, the ending would have felt weird, what with Rorschach supposedly not caring about this injustice, and many would be scratching their heads.

  • I thought the book was amazing. It took me by storm. I wanted a long comic to read, so I picked this up not knowing anything, and boy was I glad I paid the money for this.

  • I have to say that this is so freakin' epic. Maybe Moore didn't intend for it to be an epic, maybe some sort of anti-epic? What with the flawed cahracters and the ambiguous ending, but, it truly is a modern epic in my opinion and really makes us examine what is is to become a vigilante, working outside the law, wearing a mask and becoming a "character". This book gets 9/10 from the Shadowdancer!

  • i like the parts in watchmen better with out the blue guy he really is like god to damm alike god is powerful but yet the topic dosnt thrill ya cuz you can have tons of power but you dont put on a good show you suck .theres no getin around it spiderman3 sucked cuz venom like a pussy went crawling to sandman for help if you give someone god like powers then they wont have any ass to kick can anyone say boring

  • i think dr blue man should of been called watchMAN what do you think ?let me know

  • man i just saw watchmen and i love the movie and all but some things in that story really pissed me off first off is the blue guy is boring as hell i mean he dosnt do any thing cool really i mean superman has super power but at least hes random with his am i wrong superman has speed ice breath eye beams and is strong as hell look all im saying is he just stands there and super man dosnt just stand there let bulits hit him and then just bream then dr mat is like god he got real old real fast

  • I love watchmen, it's not very often I see "grown up"comics. It's a more mature take on the whole super, masked hero thing. However despite the vast amounts of interesting characters the only ones i liked were nite owl and rorscharch. i hated Mr. Manhattan and the fact that he kills one of my favorite comic book heroes makes me mad. The only thing i didn't get was the book subplot going on. I know that was Ozy's fav author, but I sumtimes just skipped the pirate dialouge pannels. Explanation Plz?

  • It's (roar-shok).... or if you're unyieldingly American it could be (roar-shack). Lol, audio preview pronounces it as "ersh-cock" though... Anyway, Watchmen is an amazing graphic novel. READ IT!!!

  • i would really love it if u made a 101 based 100 percent around dr. manhattan. best character ive ever seen

  • he's the dam main character. learn the name buddy. if you never guessed it's the same as the ink blot test that walter has to do.

  • rawshark?Rorshcach

  • I maxed out on my character count. Awesome!!!

    (sigh) . . . . . . . I thought it was pretty cool.

  • biggest fan love your work it's finnaly good to see someone who loves the watchmen as much as me could you please do more watcnmen videos about like some more ways they could go for watchmen two

  • Im going to have to pick up the book now!!... thanks for the info dude. fuck your momma you piece of shit... sorry i didnt mean that but I stumbled upon the audio preview and thought it was halarious when it repeats what I write!

  • i fuckilng love watchmen!!! its my faviorite book ever!!!!

  • how old do you have to be to see the movie

  • its rated R, so 17

  • they let you in with an adult, if you're under 17.

  • i still don't get what the doc meant at the end by nothing never ends

  • That every man, every society, every religion, they want their perfect little world. Some people want everyone to embrace "god". Some people want everyone to be Christian, some people want everyone to be white. Life goes on, no one sees that what their trying to do DOESN'T matter. What religion you have doesn't matter the color of your skin doesn't matter, event this so called "god" doesn't matter because NOTHING ever ends. The world keeps on spinning, and our little plans don't mean ANYTHING.

  • oh.....

  • I want to read this so bad. I found it on ebay, but at the time I had the Joker and Batman: The Killing Joker watched on my dad's ebay too.... so he got me the killing joke instead. How important would you say it is to read this before the movie comes out? I don't think I'll be able to get it, because my family hates book stores... I can never get into them :(

  • As with any movie, it's always best to read the book first - you'd probably appreciate the movie more if you read Watchmen first :)

    Plus, it's a really good comic :D

  • why?

  • got the book 2day woohohhhooohh

  • He keeps calling Rorschach "Rawshark", I can't tell if its just his accent or if he's joking.

  • It's probably just a reference to the book, the cops get a tip of Rorschach's location and mishear it at first as Raw Shark. Might be coincidental though.

  • ive gotta be a dick

this primer on watchmen only covers the basic story

    it is so much more

  • do a 101 on v for vendetta

  • finally fiinished it. first comic ive read in a long time, based on watchin these vids. very good literature, i can see why times magazine put it on its top 100 novels list. thanks for rekindiling my interest in comics.

  • Anyone kno what the song from the start is called? and by whom? I think it's the smashing pumpkins, but i'm not sure....

  • Rorshach and Dan are the only "decent people" in the book. Jon, Laurie, and Ozy were complete douchebags.

  • to DCompose, it would be helpful to delve a little more into each character. thats what i got from the story, its a character piece. like what moore and gibbons were trying more than the rest was to ask like what it means to be a hero, im not saying it the right way but you know, good video though.

  • Completely agree :)

  • o dang it

  • who are the watchmen

  • lolololol. Get the comic book, it absolutely rocks

  • rorscharchs mother was a whore

  • i didnt understand why dr manhatten killed rorscach does anyone know why?????

  • SPOILERS - Night Owl, Ozymandias, and Dr. Manhattan all agreed they had to keep the secret of what Ozymandias had done in order to preserve peace. Rorscach was not going to go along with them, and would have told people the truth. He had to die in order to stop him.

  • oooooo thx

  • so do you think that means rorscach wont die in the movie because zach snyder is changing the ending????

  • Because Rorschach would try to tell everyone Veidt's masterful squid plot

  • im in chap 4

  • whats the opening song called

  • dude, i feel sorry for you. I read it twice and understand how hard it is to try to...summarize on it and not spoil anything without making the book seem stupid. Which it's not, it's the best book ever.

  • Isnt the watchmen set in the DC universe? Does that mean Batman and superman are refrenced or even seen?

I havnt read it yet lol so i wouldnt know

  • No its not its by DC not in universe its own world

Read it dont watch the film or look up spollers before you do just read it

  • Lol Ok

  • I'm sorry, but you can't teach the watchmen. The whole Graphic Novel has to experenced by the own reader. The pages and Dialouge are so filled with messages, that the book gives a differnt story to every reader's personal emotions.

  • He said that. He said its too long and too much info, he is more or less offering reasons on why to read it.

  • you can't teach watchmen. the reader teaches it for himself. his perception is everything

  • Watchmen was the first graphic novel I ever read through and is by far one of my favorites. What do you, Kevin, think about what "you-know-who" did near the end of the book, do you think that it was right for that character to risk millions of people to potentially save billions?

  • dude you rock!

  • wait i still dont get why Veidt created the giant suid thing

  • So that the attack could be blamed on another planet, rather than another country on Earth. That would unite the world as they saw a country vs. country war wasn't as important as a planet vs. planet war. Make sense?

  • I'm wondering how does Rorschach's mask always change?

  • Kitty Genovese ordered a dress from him, made of a fabric created by Doctor Manhattan that used two pressure and heat-sensitive liquids suspended between a layer of latex to create black-on-white shifting color patterns, When the dress was completed, Genovese was unsatisfied with the design, and she refused to pay for it. Kovacs took it home for himself, fascinated with the fabric. Upon reading of Kitty's murder in the newspaper, he Decited to become rorschach.

  • dude... Rorschach is pronounced "Roor...shack"

  • never really heard of tis until i saw this video and the movie trailer.

all i can say is,is that doc will be badass and the superheroes get murdered

  • Jon kills him at the end oh whoops

  • yeah but how.

  • The same thing he did to the member of the Vietcong in the first trailer.

  • Dude you are a batard I have read it but you have ruined watchmen for alot of people

And hes freak jon he has god powers what do you freakin think idiot

  • well fuck me except for the fact that a guy spoiled it before me so I'm fucking sorry i thought since he spoiled it who's gonna yell at me

  • Dont matter it was on another page THIS IS MENT TO BE SPOLLER FREE

  • Yeah but yell at him to

  • No

Because you ruined my friend who had not read it he pointed me to this comment jack ass

  • well i am SORRY

  • hey theres a new thing on the net its called the "back" button use it if you dont want to be spoiled!

  • okay so what was up with the end when that newspaper assistant guy spilled ketchup on his smiley face shirt, and it looking like the bloody smiley symbol thing!?

and btw, the end was way more uplifting than i expected. when i was reading it i thought for sure it would end with the world blowing up or something.

  • No when the Comedian gets killed blood splats on the smiley face and then Rorschach finds it

  • i know, but then at the end the newspaper kid is wearing a smiley face shirt and ketchup gets on it and it looks just like the blood splattered button. i was wondering why they did that.

  • There are tons of smiley faces throughout the book. You just have to look for them.

  • The end is anything but uplifting because there's blood on all of their hands (either by action or tacit approval) and the truth is going to come out regardless. The question of the story (a classic Reagan-era question) is, does the end justify the meaans? See---the Iran-Contra scandal had a lot of people asking that question. That's the atmosphere in which WATCHMEN took shape.

  • about the watergate never happening thing.. if you read the comic closely you notice that there is a mention that the comedian, on a govermental mission kills two reporters, the names of theses reporters (whom i dont remember) are infact the real (i mean the real-real, not comic-real) reporters that wrote the watergate scandal story, thats why that never happens in this book!

  • This makes me wonder what the Joel Silver-produced version they had planned back in '89 would have been like. I've read that script...and I'll say little more, other than that they wanted Ah-Nuld for Doc Manhattan. Though, like Terry Gilliam said, it could have been a good miniseries...

Can't wait for the film. It's a shame Alan Moore doesn't appreciate our feelings about it, but you can't win 'em all. Thanks for the vid.

  • also lets hope they dont keep it EXACTLY like the comics if you know what i mean, i dont think anyone wants to see dr. manhattans dick lol

  • Well it is rated R so who knows

  • lol on commercials i thut i'd be like silver surfer, but sadly no, you see light blue male dick a few times. But on the upside you see silk spectre's boobs for quite a while

  • lol poor night owel, he has the worst weakness of all, the two most feared words in the english language... ERECTILE DISFUNCTION

  • rorshach is awesome, i love the part where he handcuffs that guy who killed the little girl to a pipe then gives him a hck saw and lights the room on fire, especialy since this was written before the saw franchise

  • Yeah, but the scene was done before Watchmen as well. Remember the ending of Mad Max?

  • Yes but you know what, it is the same scene from Mad Max 1 , Max( (Mel Gibson) chains a guy to a car that is about to explode , and gives him a chaisaw, then says " You can cut the chai in 4 minutes your Ankle in Two", this movie was releasede back in 1979, had a good audience, i think Moore just opied the scene , it cant be just coincidence.

  • i just finished it i thought the ending with dan and laurie changing there name and the paper editors shtting on his assistant fell short i didnt really like it other then tht i really loved it

  • unfortunetly i am a little young so i haven't read the wole thing just cuz i fell for me it is very mature, i mean rape, sex, naked glowing blue guys? not to say it isn't good but i haven't read it just for the sake of my mental virginity

  • you should do a wolverine 101

  • Dude you would make a great comic book writer,

make a video on if were to make your own comic book what would it be like.

  • i think that the book is great but i havnt read it yet but im waiting for my cousin to be done with it then i can read it

  • eyy one thing i wanna ask you is are you married?

  • Watchmen is one of my favorite books! Not just my favorite graphic novel. It's one of the most well-executed good ideas I have ever come across. I've now read it 3 times and each time I pick up on so much more.

A 3 hour movie can't possibly do this story justice. But Snyder can give it one heck of a try.

  • how come your cover is different?

  • It's been reprinted several times.

  • I hope Alan More actually accepts some money for this movie. He was so mad with Holywood for messing up his previous works, he want's nothing to do with the movie business!

    :(

  • Oh yah, when i saw the trailer months back i had to read the book and infact it is on my self right next to me, and i have read it. Damn, just damn, all i have to say is, this comic has balls!!!! great 101 class, i almost LOLed when you said Mr. Manhattan

  • As a big Alan Moore fan i'm not to exited about the film considering how they butchered his other works (league of extraordinary gentleman, V for Vendetta) which were all excellent before hollywood decided to cash in..

  • they wanted to kill watchmen too but the director zach snyder said hell noooo he wants to keep it as close to the book as possible

  • Wow. Finished it today. The ending... I don't know what to say. It's weird. But there are, like, 5 twists going on all at once!

  • very good 101 ! unfortunately you only have 10 Minutes.

Keep up the good work !

  • well it is 9 mins 59 secints

  • Doc Manhattan and the dead peeps at the end are the only ones who have my sympathy.

  • you have a dog named barack?!

  • brock

  • what's the song? It's cool and I ask these questions for my i-pod. DCompose, cool video!

  • The Song is called The Beginning is the end is the beginning . by the smashing pumpkins. it is on the soundtrack of batman & robin

  • take not out of the last comment

  • watchmen is the best thing ive ever read i loved the whole parallel universe thing.and they also got u emotionally attached to certain charachters especially doctor manhattan i felt really terrible the way he was set up to be hated and exile not

  • you, my friend, are awesome! I'm gonna get this book TODAY! And.. well, the most people I meets isn't really that exited about the movie...

  • Thanks for doing this watchmen 101 kev. I watched this video before i left for my holiday, so i quickly bought the book. Absolutely amazing, i couldn't put it down once i started, i cant wait for the movie now. Big big thanks Kev. Keep up the good work

  • Shouldn't have made a watchmen 101.

There's only 12 issues it's not like a ongoing series. Let them read it their selfs.

  • Thanks for suggesting this book its a great read althought the ending is kinda controversial. Rorschach is the best anti-hero.

  • This book was fenominal, its as realistic as it gets. But I didn't like the part where -SPOILER WARNING- rorschach dies. explain that and other parts of the ending

  • Thoughts on the book:

Watchmen brought something completely new to the table, I personally believe this is Alan Moore's finest work (and that is saying something with V and Killing Joke). Narrative is flawless and the drawing is spot on. The only question I have about it SPOILER .... is when the comedian raped his team-mate and at the end it seems like she liked him after all... that just wowed me (I can't think of any other comic where that has been issued -pun intended- so well). Good review!

  • I was awestruck by the trailer, but I still think it's going to be butchered because of time restrictions. It should have been a series, but then it wouldn't have come with all the razzle and dazzle of a big movie premiere lol. The book itself is hauntingly raw. It stayed in my thoughts for a long time after I was done reading it and I understand why it made Time's top 100 American novels (1923-present). I'm thinking of reading all the titles on that list just because of this book.

  • Thanks a lot for the information! I'm going to read the book for sure.

  • Don't take this the wrong way but your 101 series are starting to get lazy and the quality is getting worse with every outing. This is not a put down because I no you don't have to do these at all, but I miss the heart you put into making them. Now before any of your fans have a sh*t fest on my behave. I'm a big fan of DCompose too, even have a playlist of all your 101 sessions. I'm just say, okay.~Phurdrick

  • Watchmen is my favorite novel hands down. I've read it 3 times since I bought it last year and I never get tired of it. I tend to go through the comic every so often just to re-read my favorite scenes. I keep it with me everyday, it's just that good. You're right about relating to the characters as we read it. That's the beauty of it. The story is so artistically grounded into reality, that you can't fully enjoy this book in one reading. It has to be read many times to absorb all of the detail.

  • it's great book i read it right b4 i found out about the movie version!!! but i don't get the ending. . .or the pirate side-story and how it related to the main story.

  • wuts the song in the beginging???

  • The Comic Wanted, vs the movie. your thoughts? Personally I loved the comic and was turned off by the movie.

  • Iron Man-Sept 30th

    The Incredible Hulk-Oct 21st

    the Dark Knight-Dec 9th

Yeah in the trailer it shows somebody go through a window in slow-mo.

  • maybe you've covered this before, and i just missed it, but what did you think of "the incredible hulk" movie?

  • I think it's badass that they're putting The Black Freighter as a DVD feature, in Anime form! Fuck yeah! PaidYouOff it's going to have some minor changes but basically the story, the characters, everything that we love about the Watchman will be intact.

Anyway, anyone check out the motion comic on itunes?

  • Hey DCompose, I got 1 question for ya, who watches the watchmen?

  • Ozymandias is my hero!

  • he is a genocide and a gay

  • how did you get the pics of certain pages form the book on ur computer? plz write back i rlly wanna know

  • Doubt this is how, but you can download Comics off torrents, and they have very good resolution. They are CBR files.

    .

  • That's how I do it. Minutemen and DCP baby

  • wuts this song?

  • the beginning is the end is the beginning By Smashing Pumpkins

  • I am at chapter 11. Honestly, one of the greatest books ever. I love all the characters and their stories. It's all just great. I wanna believe that it IS real life. Rorschach is definetly my favorite. It's a must read. Alan Moore is incredible. Can't wait for movie. And to finish the last two chapters lol.

  • hey ever though about doing a 101 about batman R.I.P and the black Golve or even Nightwing

  • It's not gonna work as a movie; plotwise it's just too dense and people won't get it.

  • not to sure on the real life proximity claim as it were, honestly i think it should have stayed a novel= zac snyder is awful, better directors have already come to the conclusion that it should not be a movie(aronofsky) supported entirely by alan moore of course, who is no to blame given hollywood's all to frequent butchering of his work: from hell, league of extrodinary gentlemen, and even v wasnt that great.so hollywood please stop destroying what compelling stories we have left

  • I understand the complex of the story. It is also way to hard for it to become a movie. It will be good to make reviews on the characters themselves, specially Roarchac and Dr. Manhathan.

  • First off. Great vid. My only complaint is no spoilers. I mean it's a 101 class... Basic introduction to it all does it really mean leaving things out? Can someone please tell me what the spoilers are?

  • well, you are right, being a 101 class, he should have added spoilers, but i guess he didnt want to spoil this "great" book

  • ok so at the end of the trailer dr manhattan is like on this big ball thing thats like made of glass or something what is that and what is its purpose

  • It's a type of transportation he makes. It's based on the interior of a grandfather clock.

  • he's on Mars, in his own "palace"

  • Sorry for all these comments in a row...apparently, I clicked the wrong button, and instead of replying to the individual post, I replied to the video as a whole.

  • when i saw the preview there were multiple "blue" men... ????

  • Manhattan can replicate himself.
