  • 5:40...did you add that accordion sounding background music, or is that the supermarket? Either way, it fit's really well with that particular scene.

  • Crazy, sweaty nightmears!

  • GEEZ. Japan really likes overpricing their food. D'8

  • Comment removed

  • They don't have any choice. It's a very crowded and small city. They rely heavily on imports to supply the population with food. Importing costs money. Not just the importation itself but also tariffs (tax on imports) and other taxes alike. This taxation is not taken out of the importers pocket but instead the consumer. Price is raised to make up for the producers losses spent paying for import costs so they can maintain marginal profits. Simple economics.

  • thats why they are way more healthy then we are in the states because there main course of the meals are veggies and sea food. not often you see a fat person in japan

  • Could be that the reason carrots are so wide is that wide slices of carrot are great for tempura

  • Holy shit they have that brand of knock off cereal at my local dollar tree...

  • looking at all that meat makes me wanna puke... poor animals :(

i think human beings in general are not aware of how much meat gets consumed on a daily basis. eating meat sometimes is a good way in saving animals and helping the environment. also ewww to those testicles in a supermarket...

  • @Dochon215 I agree with you, people in the developed countries should eat less meat. Yes it will save animals and help the environment, but the most import thing is that it can contribute to the solution of the food-scarcity in the poor developing countries.

  • I think they most likely have this at stores in Japan but, do you think I'd be able to find rice pudding? Yeah I know weird question.

  • Wow they dont have chicken?? Down in here in the Atlanta we eat chicken like the japanese eat rice. lol

  • ergh, sadia chickens are horrible, we get them in the middle-east. ergh.

  • ass kick salsa hahaha nice:D

  • Do you know that it is illegal to take a photo or video in a supermarket?

They even have Sadia chicken. I did not expect that.

  • maaan tkae me with u !

  • @OwrKeeng Yes she is. Very stereotypical, but she meets the stereotype.

  • Can anyone please tell me the song playing in the background at the very beginning? I know it's Audioslave, but I just can't find out which damn song it is.

  • @AppsFTW Like A Stone.

  • Lamb? Yes! But do they have Mint sauce? I doubt it.

  • They play audioslave in Japanese supermarkets? Awesome!

  • large roast of meat europeans ? haha are you kidding etheir argentinian with their own made barbecue style which is delicious or typical american barbecue europeans dont eat much meat :P try argentina lol all there is is meat :D

  • @I3I2INGMETHEHORIZON Us Brits do, though not huge hunks of meat, usually a mix of sausages, ribs and chicken pieces.

  • @G1NZOU lol yeah but in my country they serve like half a kg per person of meat thats a whole fucking lot and its good cause ;D theres good grass for fat cows ;D haha

  • @I3I2INGMETHEHORIZON Mmmm, I can imagine a piece that size on a BBQ, yum. (^_^)

  • @G1NZOU gee thx its 5 am make me hungry haha :P lols

  • Nicholas Cage: Lost in Tokyo

  • i hear AUDIOSLAVE being played in the background. japanese supermarkets ROCK

  • DUDE!! CAN I GO VISIT YOU? LOOKS LIKE TOKYO IS AN ADVENTURE!!

  • I think I nearly died laughing at the bit about the bottle of MSG XD

  • second scene is from harajuku? :) what a crazy place. been in supermarket like this, but i just bought beer and sweets, chocolate is so amazing over there, like in switzerland, and cheap comparing to beer! :) check my video if you got time, follow you. gl

  • wow that song describes me!! >.<

  • "MOVE PIGEON!"

  • "BICYCLES ARE FUN! YAAAAAAY!! Move, pigeon!!" *ZOOM*

  • My mom would die without chicken.

  • @laravia18 haahah wtf!!??

  • @frankevo11 If you knew my mom, you would put that wtf in caps to emphasize how sad it is.

  • @laravia18 is your mom black?

  • Hmm, I'd say the onions in the supermarket were cheaper because they were imported. Stuff made in Japan is extremely expensive within Japan.

  • Silliest thing I saw in Japan.

45,000 yen pizza. Thats around the £40 mark.

  • @13igAdam2040 I think you've mixed up your decimals mate. 45,000 yen is closer to £450

  • @BruckThatsMe Crap, you're right. One too many zeros. My bad./

  • You can get what you're looking for at the National Azabu or that other place new Tokyo Tower.. But you're gonna be paying up the wazoo for it.

  • ty fot the vid, ive subscribed ty

  • mmmm beeeear.....run RUN! hahahahaha!

  • do people ever look at you like a weirdo for filming? cuase if i did that at a walmart in the states, people would be like "what the hell is this guy doing?"

  • National Azabu is a shit. They think their customers are all donkeys. They sell a pack of fruit for the regular price (unreal expensive) in a shelf, and in another shelf they sell the same fruit for a sale price. So they expect you to be very distracted, careless about money, or thinking that the regular one has a better quality and buy it, but in fact they're the same product, same brand and quality. Only the price and shelf is different. They do it with all veges and fruits always!! lol

  • i love the fact that Cooney's vids mostly revolve around food. Luv ya Kev!! lol

  • whats the name of that song at 3:19

  • lol Frank Mancini or whoever it is over the tannoy.(or whatever it's called). How cliché even though it never happens in the 'real world' (Japan is on the moon).

  • hey, can you put up a video of a visit to a dojo?

  • Is it just me who thinks Natto tastes like coffee? It doesn't taste bad really but I taste coffee and chew beans. My brain was confused.

  • Thank you for this video, very interesting. What can you tell me about vegetarian products in Japan?

  • Thank you for this video :) I know it's from last year but I don't care, I'll be moving to Tokyo for 2 years soon! D: it's scary!! Haha, this was insightful! Arigato ^^

  • I didn't noticed at first, but at 10:01 on the testicles' package, it says "SuKarne" which is a popular Mexican brand of meat. What I know is that a lot of meat coming from north Mexico is exported and sold in Japan.

  • how long did it take u to learn japanese

  • 9:40 drooling on the meat : )

  • I should have an... interesting, time in Tokyo next month lol.

  • lol you're hilarious. and perhaps kind of creepy and weird. But oh so funny :)

  • go to local butcher, they have real bacon.

  • are you kidding?? there isn't a tofu section back home where you're from??? haha, clearly you haven't gone to a Chinese super market... XD

  • I would go crazy @ 4:49.

Here, in San Francisco there's like 2 mini-marts and the onigiri always sells out in both places before 12. I think I spend like an hour shopping for 5 items, just trying to figure out labels on products.

  • 12:47

    "Run! Run!"

    lol

    Crazy gaijin!

  • I was expecting "you look in my pants" after "when you need a big piece of meat".

  • woah do i hear Le Vie en Rose in the background?

  • oh my god they have that there!

    lol

  • LoLoL you are hilarious dude. btw, it was interesting.

  • What the Fu** , 398 Yen for Lays Potato snack, that's insane..is only $1 in my place.

  • @extemecomp Its only about 4$ XD not sooo bad if you're desperate ;p

  • What's the song playing at :40 ?

  • I love videos like this, very little dicking around, professional, and best of all informative!

  • Ho cool is that: AUDIOSLAVE in the background?! Damn, european supermarets sucks with their lame backgroundmusic, I wanna be in japan!! :(

  • LOL testicles?? wow

  • i lived there for 2 years fun times

  • Yes they have lays chips!!!

Also note: Food that is not grown in Japan usually have to be imported (like different fruits) and are expensive because of this.

  • Baked beans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last time I was home I shoved tins into my hand-luggage to bring back. Thanks for letting me know where they are available here :)

  • Bicycles are fun!!!

    MOVE PIGEON!!!!

  • i just discovered your videos today while at home sick and i absolutely love what i've found so far :] i will soon be minoring in japanese language and history in college and hope to be moving to japan in the future, and these videos are not only helpful and interesting, but they're funny :D

  • audioslave in the background in the beginning? :D

  • no he made it in garage band.

  • lmfao @ the end, "RUN! RUN!" hahaha

  • food is fucking cheap in japan.

i see thing that is about 10 Swedish crowns (SEK) wich normaly cost about 20 or 30 SEK in sweden.

  • A lot of that bulk meat would be imported from Australia I guess.

  • what's the song nice song by the way

  • 10:29

Sadia > This meat cames from Brazil

    XD

    Btw, its delicious

  • lol ass kickin salsa

  • Where in tokyo do you live?

    I live in Nakano

I like niku no hanamasa :P

  • I hear some Audioslave in the background lol.

  • Kevin you should cover convinient store video.

Becuase Japanese convenient stores are much better that in US. Its actually convenient in Japan rather than in US. All you have in US convenient stores are junk food and useless stuff. In Japan its actually much better especially in food department of a convenient store.

  • You look like you're reeeallly enjoying life in Japan.

  • 'oh look testicles wow' hahaha cracked me up haha look at 11:52 theres a salsa called ass kick salsa

  • O_O I saw Swedish candy... Yohos XD

  • I have been to the Costco's in Japan. I went wiht y host family a number of times. Defenitly a place to check out if you live in Japan.

  • awesome video wow!!!

  • the funny thing is, i live in canada and when you convert the price to canadian dollars, i am already paying the same!

if it is cheaper for everything in the states, consider yourself quite lucky!

  • same as when you change it to uk sterling, everything's so much more expensive here too. if we want japanese stuf, they import it to australia, then import the stuff to the US, and finally import THAT to the UK!

  • my supermarket have a tofu section :D

  • eww kim chi, I prefer my Food Cities in Phoenix. It just beans and plastic jesuses as far as you can see. Also Ranchero music put you in the mood to get groceries.

  • You think that Japanese supermarkets are cool, until you go to Japan and realize they are amazing!!!

  • hahah awesome vid thanks man!!

  • "thats all seaweed right here folks"

    jokes

  • Wonderful, the MSG scene had me going for a few minutes! :D

Good info on the meats though, I never knew you couldn't easily get whole chickens there... though I imagine if you were stationed there as military you could probably get them on base, much like Taco Bell.

  • Thanks for taking the time to do these videos! Love em.

  • wow.... did you have stroke your meat like that? lol

  • @Prncssdrake do you have TO miss "to"'s like that LOL.

  • Oh god... That wall of Onigiri just made me drool all over myself.... I wish the local asian market had a wall like that.

  • *chuckles* My cousin, who is now living in Japan with her family, found out the hard way that clear liquid in square shaped bottles is NOT water, and she should not pour big glasses of it for her kids when they come in hot and thirsty from a day in school!!

We're still giving her a hard time about that one, and she's finally taken my advice to let her neighbors help her!

  • That was a brilliant song....

    Lincoln: "What's Up"

  • 6:30

    This salt sucks!

    LMFAO

  • pretty loud there.

  • tell me how much money would you spend on an aprtment for a week plz. im thinking to travel there

  • look at the video responses for Lincoln-whats up

  • i just saw your face on No Reservations - the Philipines episode.

  • whats the song called during the montage

  • i love this country i go there more than 5 times a year im going to move there soon so much better do you like Uni?

  • Hey Cooney where did you get this song?

    Lincoln: "What's Up"

    please let me know

  • never mind I found it on amazon

  • I recognize the song in the beginning but I can't think of what it's called! could anyone tell me? and sweet video as always Kevin, haha. I'm happy you've uploaded a lot of videos recently. :-) I'll be spending my Saturday watching them...

  • *drops camera off bike*

  • i typed in 'i have no life' and this is what i got.

  • holy crap your right

  • is the cost of living in tokyo more expensive than that in london?

i think london is more expensive...

  • Do most people ride bikes In japan, rather than cars???

  • i take bus, train and walk.

  • It depends on where you live. If you live in a big city, riding a bike is much easier than driving a car.

I'm currently staying in a small town in Japan and you can't live here without a car.

  • oh boy.. my kind of a supermarket :)

  • I'm guessing your parents taught you to be so closed minded...

Wake up, we live in a global economy, and while were at it, Japan is the second largest economy in the world!!!

P.s Not all Americans think like you (I'm American as well).

  • 5139yen for a chicken?

dam... thats 38€ for ONE f.cking chicken.

this must be a hand fostered bio chicken.

stroked too the death with love.. (like a kobe cow)

feedet with wather melons and diamons :D

  • cool :P

some good cared for chicken at last

the ones that done have hormones all over them >_>, no wonder they're one of the healthiest people in th world

  • lol run run :)

  • Hahaha... Sadia is a Brazilian company! What's Brazilian chicken doing there? I guess Brazilian chicken goes a loooong way...

  • Blendy! ^_^

  • I think you need a crock pot. Slow cooking pork in a toaster oven is no way to do it at all!

  • I shop at Seiyuu Supermarket too I always buy that 500 Yen sushi. The first time I went there at the checkout line the person asks u if you want a bag and I said no thinking she was asking me if I had a discount card.... Then they looked at me like I was a dumb ass lmao

  • What the hell? Isn't that Audioslave - Like a Stone in the beginning? What's that doing in a Japanese supermarket? xD

  • Everything there seems so small and expensive and also so exotic!! XD

Japan is a completely different to Sweden.....

  • these vids make me nostalgia for a place ive never been too...

  • I second the motion that Japanese bacon sucks. And I can't find real breakfast sausage links for the life of me. All they have are tiny hotdogs they call sausage. Blasphemy!

I don't know if it's like this where you shop, but the supermarkets around here tend to completely do away with items that sell out rather than restock them. Every time I find something good and buy them out, they're gone forever. You'd think they'd keep offering stuff that sells out. It drives me crazy.

  • hmm... Clearly need to visit Seattle when next stateside, we have tofu sections in most groceries in the city at this point.

The seaweed & noodle section is deficient though.

  • does japan have any meats other than pork meat if they do how do you know the difference between the 2 or more o.o? and why did you just run into the bushes when you were gonna park your bike o.o? nice video ^o^

  • PLEASE somebody tell me the name of the song at 4:00. Thanks!

  • Go look in the description, dude. It's there.

  • Lincoln: "What's Up" as stated in the description. Can't find the song on youtube though.

  • Your only chance of getting it is by buying their album titled "Lincoln" off amazon or ebay. The band disappeared over a decade ago. They had just this one truly awesome album.

  • Just found out you still can stream it on myspace . com/lincolnpa

  • its true, the only place you can get the album is Amazon/Ebay. i cant even find a pirated version of it.

if im not mistaken, half the band formed They Might Be Giants which is why they share similarities

  • @tokyocooney

they sounded quite ahead of thier time , shame .

    thanks for the info

  • Haa awesome vid. I enjoy seeing things like this people wouldnt normally care for. kudos!

  • You could have almost done this one as a FYI episode, tons of useful information in this one.

  • wow dawn penn no no no instrumental

  • Cool video,

I love how long all your videos are, great entertainment value!
