They don't have any choice. It's a very crowded and small city. They rely heavily on imports to supply the population with food. Importing costs money. Not just the importation itself but also tariffs (tax on imports) and other taxes alike. This taxation is not taken out of the importers pocket but instead the consumer. Price is raised to make up for the producers losses spent paying for import costs so they can maintain marginal profits. Simple economics.

i think human beings in general are not aware of how much meat gets consumed on a daily basis. eating meat sometimes is a good way in saving animals and helping the environment. also ewww to those testicles in a supermarket...
@Dochon215 I agree with you, people in the developed countries should eat less meat. Yes it will save animals and help the environment, but the most import thing is that it can contribute to the solution of the food-scarcity in the poor developing countries.

National Azabu is a shit. They think their customers are all donkeys. They sell a pack of fruit for the regular price (unreal expensive) in a shelf, and in another shelf they sell the same fruit for a sale price. So they expect you to be very distracted, careless about money, or thinking that the regular one has a better quality and buy it, but in fact they're the same product, same brand and quality. Only the price and shelf is different. They do it with all veges and fruits always!! lol
lol Frank Mancini or whoever it is over the tannoy.(or whatever it's called). How cliché even though it never happens in the 'real world' (Japan is on the moon).
Thank you for this video :) I know it's from last year but I don't care, I'll be moving to Tokyo for 2 years soon! D: it's scary!! Haha, this was insightful! Arigato ^^
I didn't noticed at first, but at 10:01 on the testicles' package, it says "SuKarne" which is a popular Mexican brand of meat. What I know is that a lot of meat coming from north Mexico is exported and sold in Japan.
Here, in San Francisco there's like 2 mini-marts and the onigiri always sells out in both places before 12. I think I spend like an hour shopping for 5 items, just trying to figure out labels on products.
Baked beans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last time I was home I shoved tins into my hand-luggage to bring back. Thanks for letting me know where they are available here :)

Wonderful, the MSG scene had me going for a few minutes! :D
Good info on the meats though, I never knew you couldn't easily get whole chickens there... though I imagine if you were stationed there as military you could probably get them on base, much like Taco Bell.
*chuckles* My cousin, who is now living in Japan with her family, found out the hard way that clear liquid in square shaped bottles is NOT water, and she should not pour big glasses of it for her kids when they come in hot and thirsty from a day in school!!
We're still giving her a hard time about that one, and she's finally taken my advice to let her neighbors help her!
