  • Cool mate. Thanks for posting.

  • That was indeed fascinating. Thanks for posting.

  • I bet that's fun.. not haha. Would love to meet him though.

  • This looks like their normal speed. Is there a way to make this a hi speed vid?... LOL (just kidding). Yeah - roadies are wonderful creatures.

  • It´s interesting to watch the order that toms are assembled, everything must be 100%

  • That could be much easier!

  • Peart is shit.

  • hes got really quick at setting up neals kit

  • they kicked you guys out so they could apply the special neil peart juice that makes him play ridiculously

  • great job.you have "chosen" the backing track nicely. It goes well with the visual , kind of hypnotic and adds to the building excitement for me of seeing them in Manchester and Birmingham SOON! I play drums, which in respect to "The Master,"is a little like Rolf Harris saying to Da Vinci, that I like to paint . And setting up my weeny 7 piece takes a good 30 minutes so God knows what this monster takes. NP is the best there has ever been or likely to be. End of. And i am a massive Zep fan.

  • What factor did you increase the speed of the video? I know there are cuts, but I'm just curious how long it actually takes this guy on a nightly basis to put this together (and tear it down at the end of the night) - Tough job.

  • ALERT! -- Before clicking start, MUTE this fucked up musical choice. Oh my God that was annoying as hell.

  • While I would not choose those words, I do agree about the music for the video. It made me think of someone being led to their execution. Like in the movie 'Dead Man Walking'.

  • @oldjizzy I originally used The Main Monkey Business for this video's music, but stupid WMG yanked the song. I could only use a song from YouTube's library after that and chose this particular piece because it was the right length and the drums sounded like something Neil might do.

  • @vdrum1693 hm. I wonder if maybe a classical piece might fit the scene better than the song you're using now? Maybe not something overused like the one Disney overuses, but maybe something Satie? This is a really cool video. And I love Rush. Thank you.

  • @vdrum1693 - Okay. Yeah. TYube are a bunch of assholes. For sure. It's getting way worse. The suits are starting to fuck with our internet now that is so huge and lucrative.

  • @vdrum1693 Hey, you got to witness something that us real drummers only get to hear about or read about, etc. Also, all one has to do to see the intelligence of others is read some of the dim wit postings on here...LOL....Thanks for posting your video man and keep on keepin' on!!!

  • @oldjizzy "THIS FUCKED MUSICAL SELECTION" AS YOU CALL IT IS A PRE-HISPANIC MELODY OF MY PEOPLE AND IS BASED ON OLD DRUMS I ASK YOU A LITTLE MORE RESPECT... NEIL ENJOYS THIS TYPE OF MUSIC @vdrum1693 has no idea about the style of music he was selecting

  • @elbataquero - Whatever, ass. That's my opinion. You're allowed to voice your too. Even though it sucks, you can still voice it.

  • @oldjizzy you are a tool

  • 4:18 to 4:26...".Hey Lorne, I've been pretty busy back there and it's also time for my break. I'm gonna go over there and have some lunch." Lorne says, "Hurry back, we still have more work to do."

  • Hats off to IATSE roadies!

  • FYI: Red Rocks is a public park and on non-concert/event days anyone can get on stage and...well, do whatever. I've jammed a couple of times on that legendary stage to literally dozens of people. "Thank You Denver!" LOL

  • hahahahahahaaa!!! 4:34!

"Hey! look at me :D im playing Rush 2112!"

  • It takes a lot of talented roadies to put together a show....Thanks to all of them cause I have been to a hell of a lt of shows.

  • lol 2:15 - 2:20 "hey man, i got some kickass weed, wanna come smoke it with me in my trailer over there?" "sure!"

  • wish i could move that fast

  • what a pain in the ass

  • i live in Colorado, and i love Red Rocks!

  • Awesome footage man...this is pro video stuff!!!!! Wow...thanks!

  • @vdrum1693 Thanks.

  • And to think that is Niel's smaller kit. Just incredible.

  • That looks like the coolest place to see the show

  • 1:54 wow still just stands

  • videos like this are what make youtube great

  • How long has this guy been with him.

Funny how with the advancement of all of our artists today in age... so go their roadies.

  • Ill bet that if Neil Peart had to set up everything himself, he'd be playing on a three piece kit, god bless roadies

  • @Adamboms LOL, a lot of guys do starting out. Unless they luck out and find a friend they can sucker...

  • @Adamboms EVEN ON A 3-PIECE SET, HE WOULD STILL BE AMAZING!

  • @Adamboms lol if neil had to set up himself he probably not be touring at all

  • Man, he should get back to the roots - snappin' lil' jazz kit - you know, 24" marching bass drum, 3 1/2" snare, 14" tom and a bass drum-mounted 18" ride. That's all you really need - he could haul and set it up himself while cracking open a beer - finished, done.

  • @Burnwash Blasphemy!!!

  • Awesome crew.. they set that big drum kit in less than 6 min..

    Great Job!

  • lol I'd like to see this guy the first time they showed him the drum set he would be setting up and taking apart for the next 10 or so years

  • They had to spent about an hour on just the stands. lol

  • Bonham was better

  • i feel sorry for that one guy who set up the whole kit.

  • @BlackAngel598 LOL, I can think of a few jobs that are far worse.

    Resume:

    "Neil Peart's Drum Tech"

    Bam! Instant awe.

  • this is the musical equivalent of watching a bikini being made right before jessica biehl puts it on.

  • cool video, I was fortunate to be there for the time machine tour on 8/16...front row!

  • Nicely shot. very nice. Good stuff. Rush is over the top. Love it.

    thanks

  • @vdrum1693 LoL you're right. ^^ It could be that Peart does descend from the top with a harness but perhaps in a stadium instead? Sometimes people change their drum settings to fit the situation or environment, or songs. So perhaps for that video Live at Red Rocks he took something out or placed something in another position so he could move in. And perhaps relocate it when he's inside.

  • @duplacite I don't think so. His setup stays the same whether they play indoors our outdoors......besides....Rush doesn't play stadium shows (with the exception being the Toronto SARS benefit show), just ampitheaters and arenas. If you can find a video of him being hoisted in on a harness, I would love to see it. With all the videos on YouTube, you'd think there would be at least one. Good luck...you won't find it. I think ENOCH1611 is maybe thinking about Carl Palmer.

  • A dream job for sure! Lorne is a lucky man.

  • his drum set comes together like the worlds sexiest puzzle..

  • @vdrum1693 OK BRO,i know what i saw at 2112 concert, over thirty years ago.go figure, read my comment below to dipshit, and all you fucken know it alls tell me where you seen rush.last week.last year, ive followed this band frrom the beginning.later

  • this poor guy! they make 1 guy set up a friggin full circle drum kit an everyone else just watches him or cleans something

  • you could have filmed MOSSES parting the red sea and it would'nt have held a candle to this. almost sacred vault footage to be gaurded by six knights with swords and dogs at the gate. " BEHOLD the masters kit"!!!!!!!

  • Great vid man!

There's no "Rush" I've ever experienced bigger than playing on that very stage a few times.....

Best venue in the world! : )

  • i dont really like this kit i like the time machine kit

  • They had to lower him into the kit at the show I saw.Just amazing. And he used all of it

  • Exactly the opposite of what I would have expected. Lorne (Gump) Wheaton set up the microphones first, and set up the drums inside of them. But, I guess everything is memory-clamped. I think I saw John Arrowsmith (their pyro guy) helping with cables.

Rush spends a few weeks before each tour just practicing how to set up, play, and break down a show. They always use the same gear throughout the tour. They are not rich enough to do otherwise. (Neil's kit alone is above $50,000)

  • I like the fact that Rush doesnt use smoke and mirrors on their stage set up. Its simple but enough. Anyways Im there to see the masters play not watch them drip blood or spew fire outta their butts, coupled with huge explosions.....yuck

  • @dinglenutzz

Watch the Rush DVD from the Rush In Rio Tour...when they break into one little victory, amazing fireshow.

  • Nice footage!

  • how do you know when you've made it?

when you have a guy whose sole job it is to set up your kit, and another person whose sole job it is to clean your kit.

  • Man!! What a production!! Thanks for showing us that. They kicked U out eh?

I wonder if Neil does his own tuning?

  • That's kinda cool to see; thanks for popping it up :)

  • Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing this.

  • @vdrum1693 Great vid buddy! cool background song, what is it?

  • lol it's like watching ant's work

  • Just think about this guy next time you want to call in sick from work!! They would be fucked if he fell and hit his head.

  • @vdrum1693 Ha! I couldn't see Neil reducing himself to something so retarded. This Enoch guy must be a crack baby.

  • And they still didn't finish

  • John Bonham is the best, Neil's right behind him.

  • John Bonham is the best, Neil's right behind him.

  • it's like a circular wall of jesus

  • THATS A SICK VENUE, i love the view

  • see its odd but i wouldnt trust some1 to set up my kit

  • Great vid! Sucks you got kicked out though. Hey, how long did it actually take for Gump to set them up..in real time?

  • Thanks so much for this video! I love messing around with big rigs and kits like this. It's so cool to see how the pro's do it!

  • In the R-30 Tour Program Neil tells a funny story about how the Vapor Trails drum riser was destroyed just hours after the Rio concert. The riser was placed at on angle on a flatbed truck to be carried from the stage to the equipment trailers outside the stadium but the driver didn't think about the vertical dimensions of the door and "boom", off of the truck it went! Good thing it was the last show of the tour, and that Neil found it to be comical! :)

  • Crazy!!!

Just one guy to set up kit? I mean, all the other guys are lugging the stuff to the stage, but it looks like Lorne does all the work putting it together. Wow. That's some serious responsibility!

  • Yeah its is his tech Lorne "Gump" Wheaton... I would kill for that job.

  • this background music isn't so bad. what is it??

  • you guys should watch my time lapse video on my drums click on profile name to watch!

  • I really love his Red Snakes & Arrows drum Kit... it's really cool

Wish i had a drum finnish like that

  • NEIL PEART ATE MY GF's BABY!!!!!!!!

  • i thought he kept a hard shell case over the whole platform with the drums in it?

    !?..where did i read that..

  • I feel sorry for these guys, big drumset, alot of work--but it's worth it for us... but least it ain't no Terry Bozio set, now that takes the longest time.

  • doesnt his take like 4 hours or sumthing?

  • I'm not surprised, the amount of toms he has, surprised it doesn't take 8.

  • @gothickid13 gump says it usually only takes about two

  • how does he get into a kit that makes a full circle? i guess he descends from heaven

  • @ENOCH1611

Lmao I've seen Rush 23 times and never seen him enter his kit being dropped in on a harness. I want some of what youre on to have the same hallucination 4 times.

  • @ENOCH1611 your full of shit he doesnt decend from a harness. he comes through the side of it. I saw them twice both front row

  • @ENOCH1611 rofl your saying they have to pick him up and place him in his drumset, your fucking stupid, i saw them last month, he walks out the back retard

  • @lucci97 ok bro.look your second fuckin guy to comment on my comment about this drummer,im almost 50 fuckin years old,i saw rush play at the capitol center in landover maryland during the 2112 concert ,ok this is over 30 fucken years ago,i know what i saw, on this tour at that concert peart was dropped in by a harness in his drum set,he did not crawl thru a hole in the back.the man was surrounded by over 200 piece drum set with all kinds of shit,i know what i saw then,i dont know about now. OK

  • @cluelessismyname i love you for saying that! Neil, and Alex, and Geddy are all the best thing on earth!

  • That would make sense, he is jesus on drums!

  • @cluelessismyname

    Neil Doesn't believe in Heaven.

  • Comment removed

  • @cluelessismyname

he descends...something holds him though...a friend of mine went to 2 of their concerts and he saw as he got in

  • @cluelessismyname neils an aithiest :P

  • I do agree with Golferal about the jello like movement. It seems that considering all the stands are legless and threaded it would make them top heavy once the toms and cymbals are mounted. Wonder if any of those threaded stands ever stripped along the way during a tour? Aside from that, a beutiful kit!

  • Awesome... Talk about a custom kit... Stands are threaded right into the riser. Man that is cool!!!

  • Except that if you watch while he's playing it looks like all of his drums are mounted in jello because they jiggle around so much. It's a clean and custom setup for sure but it's not as sturdy as a standard rack or good old fashion stands.

  • i was at this concert, it was amazing, neil did the coolest drum solo, ive actually seen them twice here

  • The drum tone from "exit stage left" is amazing. Those Tamas really sounded "thick, warm and round". These DW's sound like shit..the snare sounds good but the high toms sound thin. I wish he would use Tama again.

  • I would pay for a guy to set this drum set up in less than 30 minutes. :)

  • yes but correctly

  • yes, it is interesting, nice magic atmosphere...

  • i really wish neil would bring back the double base drum.

  • @UklaTheMokk in a way he does. He has one big one in the front, and a small one in the back XD

  • Cool, always wondered how they did this with a set like his, hahaha

  • Even though Mike Portnoy's kit is bigger, i prefere Neil's as every tour he comes with a new unique design to his drums ... and he is a freakin legend!

  • i want to see Mike´s Portnoy setting up :D:D:D

  • WHO ?

  • Mike Portnoy.... from Dream Theter his drums are 3 times bigger :)

  • Bigger isnt always better !!!!!

  • i know but i am sure Mike Portnoy kit are better....yes really

  • If I knew who he was ....never heard of him ?

  • Kid you must be COKED up like Frosty the Snowman..Doesn't matter who's drum set is bigger.....It's who sits behind them... Check out COBUS- Drum covers...Kid is fucking awesome...Jon Bonnium, Keith Moon, Neil Peart..

  • but we didnt talk about who sits behind drums but i want to see mike portnoy drum setting up..and i know cobus hes excellent but his covers were cut so 5/10 if not cut 10/10..... and neil preart is good yes he is but everyone has other favourite style so i dont know what do u talk about?! ok u think Portnoy is an shit but i dont think so..so funny i wanted to see his setting up and u think that i think neil peart is shit...anyway for me nail peart the best solos but my favourite drummer is MIke

  • True, true that is what makes the world go around.

You have your favorite's and I have mine.. Kewl.. Thanks for grounding me.. That Is what freedom of speech gave to us..Rock on

  • yes Mike Portnoy and Neil Peart the BEST!!! ;)

  • I gave you the benefit of the doubt.. I checked out Dream Theatre's Erotomania video and the drummer looked scared to play and his drumming sucked ass..

  • i thought sound etc.

  • being a roadie wouldnt be that bad...

  • How many stage set-ups did Rush have on this tour? Meaning, could they play in one city while another stage is set up & torn down in another city?

  • I believe I am correct in saying that Rush only uses one set on their tours. Unlike a stadium sized production, Rush's show, while impressive, can still be comfortably erected and taken down in a day, allowing them to get by with one.

  • @vdrum1693 For the most part yes. The only time when bands will use more then one set of anything is when doing back to back shows covering quite a distance. Quite a few bands do that but only if it is necessary. Rush has some production but it scaled down compared to some bands i have seen.

  • Load in takes about 5 to 6 hours for most shows. Load out is about 2 hours at max. @gowestward1

  • I don't understand why they would break down the whole kit and rebuild it for every show? I would think by just removing the floor tomes, snare, cymbals and lose items and leave all the fastened items attached. Have the circular floor section and with everything else attached loaded into a crate.

  • To save space on trucks/planes so they dont need as much transport so costs less

  • Geez I need a guy like gump for my Gretsch kit !

  • I wish they had videos of Neil doing solos from teh old days, back on teh '75/'76 tours. That woudl be epic.he should really see if he can relase some old footage.

  • Yeah, I was thinking about that too. There must be something out from pre-late 70's?

  • pretty rad video thanks for loading

  • yea..DW 6x14...i thought he had a DW snare

  • what kind of snare does he have?? i have a ocheltree heavy metal...14"x6.5....fucking AWESOME snare...i also have a chad smith snare...but the OTree is incredible.

  • his snare is probly the most expensive thing and has its own case

  • I bet Neil's happy he doesn't have to set all that gear up himself. Thank god for the roadies.

  • I've worked with Rush's crew and they are about the best, most efficient bunch around...you have no clue what you are talking about Trommealvar. Ineffective? Gimme a break!

  • agreed. it must take a lot of energy out, seeing that neil has a 360 degree kit that these guys put together!

  • Haha, nice video! That has got to be the most ineffective drum crew ever...

  • looks like their building a cage for Neil.

  • That was very cool, thank you so much. The music works by the way. I just finished Neils book and it works.

  • How long was it in real time till you got thrown out?

There's a cool vid of Terry Bozzio's kit (Huuuuuuuuuuuuge!) being set up somewhere on YT.

  • its a shame terry blows =/

  • I understand it takes Lorne and his crew 2and a half HOURS to unpack, build, and tune this rig. Then. . .oddly. . .barely 1 hr to

break it down and pack it away. . .Amazing if true. . .

  • that's not really amazing, the unpacking building and tuneing and on this scale! would take ALOT, longer than to unpack it, 1 hour to break down a kit is a lot, i spend at least 35 mins on my kit at a gig to get it perfect, and taking it down takes maximum of 10, and my kit is nowhere near as big as this one! lol

  • How big is ur kit...and where do u play...u gotta tune or anything?

  • my kit is a six piece, not as big as this.... by any means lmao, and i don't have a team to do it for me, i play at local venues, housing around 500, got a gig on th e18th of dec as band are on a break atm, but i'm now curious how long it takes for me to set it up and take it apart, get it tuned, and miced up, i will have to see, it might be quite a time lol.... i don't know haha, depends on weather i'm not interupted with other jobs lol. but drums are normally in tune before i go soo... yea lol

  • its crazy...... all these band crew people know exactly the way he wants his drums set up. when my band and i perform i have to have it my way lol.

its not selfish, its just i have a lot of muscle memory

  • LOL "And no....I don't have a job!"

  • it's not long it's only 6 minutes and 2 second!

  • Well did you see that the video was speed up??????!?!?!???

  • Damn. How long is this video sans-editing?

  • Jesus ... that would take some time to set up! But after all, he is the world's greatest drummer so watcha expect?

  • he is completely brilliant but ...no not the worlds best i wouldn't go that far...well maybe among the top three? yeah he's one of the 3 best drummers in the world. i can handle that. heheheh

  • He is defo in the top 3 .. personally i think he is the best but thats just my opinion isnt it? :-)

  • How long did it take in real time?

  • Do you realize what you just said?! DW owns Sonor!!! You are on fucking crack!!!!!!!

  • I Know, right??

  • Ya, that kid is messed up!!

  • I wish he'd go back to Ludwig, his sound was better back then.

  • I agree. The DW's have too much ring. The Presto tour had a great sounding kit.

  • note how the first minute was just one guy doing all the work... its neal peart people, come on, i cant think of anyone who wouldnt want to set up his drumset

  • @godofallpenguins001

I don't like disassembling my own drumset for band practices, and I only use a 4 piece kit. It'd take so much more work to assemble Neil Peart's kit! :D

  • If you look from 3:50 when the guy behind the drumset use Neil Peart's kick pedal,. Then it came a guy after him.. I wounder what the guy told the guy who used the pedal x)

  • Neil come out, "No no no, that's all wrong! Do it over."
