If you end up in a grapple, you are going to lose. It's that simple. A bjj has never been able to touch me because I would use one of those three options every time. In one exhibition, a bjj fighter came in low for the grapple just once and I punched him in the side of the head so hard that he went down for a nap.

And yes you probably would have a hard time to own someone with jiu jitsu alone in a street fight, but it wouldn't hurt to have some ground fighting knowledge just in case. Also do check out some kyokushin kumite fights, it's really not kindergarden play. They have no padding and gloves, and the only thing not allowed is to punch to the face.There are lots of knockouts with head kicks, body shots and low kicks.

Just a friendly tip, you should work on shooting in for a double or single leg, the bigger guy was leaving himself open to it constantly. It's one thing in a competition or friendly match like this, but in a real one on one fight, if you have Jits get that shit to the ground as quickly as u can. Quickest way to get knocked out is to try knocking out the other guy. Nice Front Naked Choke btw..

I'm a karateka and i'd agree that you don't learn how to be a good fighter in karate within a month and BJJ can be applied to fighting more quickly but over time a good striker (karate) is just as important as a grappler (BJJ)
