If african countries wish to produce cocoa and earn income.... that is their right.
It is for the politicians to run their own countries.
If you bunch of bleeding hearts are so fucking concerned....give up chocolate, THEN oil, cotton, carpets gold, diamonds, rice, garments, coffee and tobacco.
Then sell your shares in all affiliated companies. Then fuck off to these countries and do something useful rather than talk PC bullshite.
The real question is not how do we get guilt-free chocolate. The question is how do we stop self-governing corrupt african nations to stop exploiting children as slaves, soldiers and miners? Stop the abuse of children!
@VariadosTV The corporations wouldn't have so much power to get away with child labor if Gbagbo wasn't causing a civil war in the Ivory Coast by refusing to hand over power to the government that was elected.
This is an outrage! Especially considering my research into Hershey (same parent company as Hershey Chocolate) Orphanage sex crimes. Pennsylvania USA.
Q: Whats the difference bettwin chocolat companys doing it to African people, and the USA doing it to Iraq about Oil?
A: none, except that ppl need oil (and they dont need chocolate), cause every day american ppl know all the things that happen in Iraq, but u just keep on with ur live like if it wasnt your problem, but in that case its Ok cause we need Oil?
WTF!
So if you want to help dont boycott chocolate, BOYCOTT OIL
how did we get stuck on this planet? these chocolate companies are fucking around with some serious dogma, the bible says the kings of the earth will be thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, glad im not one of them.
I agree that we need to write to these companies who use slave labour and let them no that we, the consumer are not happy about this and that we are going to stop buying their products until they adopt fair trade !!!!
also, if you demanded it of them, they would just have their well fed nephews and neices work on the farm for a few weeks and doctor the books and then collect the profits from higher prices.
Only way to take a real stand is to stop buying it altogether, but that also starves the slave workers.
My family stopped eating Nestles, Hersheys, and M & M Mars as soon as we learned about slave chocolate. How can we indulge in this 'snack' when children are dying? Thanks for the video and for spreading the word.
This is the best chocolate/slave video I have found on youtube so far. Thank for making such an excellent video without typos/grammar problems/etc. I've been looking for a high quality video that I can use to help educate my friends and family - and this is it! Great work!
i like the song that goes with this video.. im doing a project on human trafficking.. so this vid was cool for me to see .. im sharing with my class the chocolate labor. we;ll see if they pick up another bar are chocolate..lol
That is so awesome that you are raising awareness about this! I think there are 5 things we can do to stop this:
1. Educate yourself - google "chocolate and slavery" so you can understand what is happening as well as the excuses the chocolate companies are making so they can continue this practice.
2. Stop buying slave chocolate in all its forms.
3. Buy only chocolate bars/chips/sauce/ice cream/candy/milk that have a Fair Trade label.
4. Tell as many people as possible about the truth behind companies like Nestles, Hersheys, and M & M Mars.
5. Write the slave chocolate companies and tell them you are doing the previous 4 things - if they don't know why their sales are dropping, they will not stop using slaves (and may in fact use more as a way to cut costs).
I would love to see us end chocolate slavery within the next 5 years and I really do believe that we can!
Traditionally, boycotts took about 10 years to become effective; nowadays, it can take as few as two (source: co-op America guide to organizing boycotts)
I think the children in Africa who have to try and survive whilst making our chocolate is enough to put ALL people off eating it, especially me. it was my new year's resolution. i think it's awful to keep young ones making chocolate instead of sending them to school to learn and play and make friends..
Great video! It's good that you are raising awareness about this important issue. We just posted a PSA on the issue of child labor in the chocolate industry and it's available at our profile. If you go to our profile you can also find a link to our website where you can send an e-mail to Nestle telling them to stop using child labor. Nice work!
