  • Wow-rare footage..THANKS for posting !!

  • Her Italian is very good. Brava Maria.

  • nel 69 ero giovane e lei era gia per me una grande

  • OMG, She is still as beautiful! And still has the voice!

  • Lovely, thank you for posting!

  • There was always something so beautiful about Mary--she never lost any of her charm (and I'm sure she retains it to this day) Long Live The Welsh Angel:)

  • grande mary !!!!

  • And now in Italian!?

    You are an angel Mary.

  • Hello Kuramochi0214,were you sat in the front row at Marys concert?

  • Yes!

    The sweetest memory of mine!

    Am I a lucky boy?

    Tommy

  • Hi Tommy,Was that your very FIRST CIONCERT?Where in the front row did you sit?

  • I hear Mary is now living near Italy with a swan...

I remember she spoke clearly "atsui-desu-ne" that means "it's too hot here, isn't it?" at the Expo '70 live held in Osaka, Japan.

I know she also sang "Let me name be sorrow" in Japanese (not in the live). I hear an EP record is available but I hav'nt.

  • Thanks for your valued posting.

Mary sings so nice and she looks very beautiful.

I can remember my "the days" a long long ago with this video.

    Ku from Saitama Japan.

I saw Mary at Expo'70 Osaka live.....

  • yeah that is right mary hopkins really is a very beautiful woman besides that also sings very nice by the way where is she from and how many languages does she know to speak

  • Mary is from Wales

  • REPLY: I do know for sure that my musical colleague, Paul McCartney, did arrange & produce "Those Were The Days" for Mary.

  • You surely is? So great!

This song is too arranged and produced by Paul for Mary.

  • Pennymusic

Do you have any more info about the Lontano recording

    thanks

    Pat

  • @pennymusicMAma I think it's because everybody knows what you have already told us - its common knowledge and it didn't answer the original question at all - and nobody likes a braggart who can't back it up. I think you will find that is the reason. Just a thought.

  • Shut up ya Penny Lane!

  • It was produced by Paul and he or Richard Hewson arranged it, yes her first release after Those were the days

  • Nice, was that just a side B? I am surprised.

  • Is it true, as I read somewhere, that Paul McCartney arranged this track? Does anyone can confirm that?

  • I read that as well, I am not sure about this and would like to hear from any Macca or Beatles fans that could shed any light on it.

"Lontano" as far as Europe and some South American countries are concerned was technically her first release after Those were the days, so it is possible that he could have had a lot to do with it!

"Lontano" in the uk wasn't released until 1970 as the b side to "Temma Harbour".

  • I got an LP by Mary many years ago in which it is written that Paul arranged that track, but I'm NOT quite sure of it nevertheless. "Lontano" was the Apple 7 single in Italy and still have that record. The B-Side was "The Game".

  • "The game" was a b side for "Prince En Avignon" Apple 9 as well.

  • It says in a book I own: A day in the life The Beatles it's like a year-by-year diary and it says that she recorded it and Paul produced it. But it doesn't say on the record who the producer is. But she sang it in Jan 69 and recorded it then and Paul was her producer then.

  • I know the song first as the B side to Temma Harbour, which I think was one of her last, if the last, single she released on Apple. It might have been released after Earth Song / Ocean Song album.

  • I'm referring to US releases.

  • A lovely composer indeed... But the song came second and Mary won best performer....

  • I have a life and a good one at that I just want people to be goog

  • I think jerks like dinastein44 are just jealous and envious, i know many people who cares a lot about Mary these days and I am one of them, but I forgive you it must be age and senility!!!

  • Well obviously you do as you bothered to go there, but thanks for visiting please do call again!

  • Sorry lost interest now, I can't take anyone seriously who likes a band called "cradle of filth" I guess Metallica are ok I suppose, but I would stick to loud noise and leave the sopranos alone!

  • Oh yes and the observation of your age and nationality was supposed to be sarcasm, but I guess that went way over your head!

  • dinastein44 for an 88 year old Kazakhstani your a very opinionated elderly person, you must know her very well to say she is a "crashing bore" and your previous comment about her singing in Italian, well all British performers in those days recorded foreign language songs it was a well ridden bandwagon so blame the industry not the performer.. Be a little more constructive with your comments and not so personal.

  • Like you Pat I'm trying to work out dinostein's previous remark "if Paul McCartney hadnt started her career she would have remained an anonymous provincial singer". The reason he signed her to Apple was a recommendation from Twiggy who had seen Mary Hopkin perform ,not in a provincial club but on NATIONAL T.V. winning a talent contest! I believe she won the public voted contest 10 weeks in a row! Hardly an anonymous singer.Already a nationally known singer before Sir Paul became involved.

  • Hi maningreen7, Yes I agree with you, in Wales she had already made a record and appeared on Welsh TV.

So as a Welsh person I found dinasteins "provincial" comment rather rude! how dare she describe Wales as "provincial"

This dinastein person is a very opinionated poster all over youtube, she says she has a musical background and that apparently gives her the right to be dogmatic and rude about anything she doesn't like.

When she posts on my vids i don't reply I just delete and block

  • Imagine Brittany Spears trying to sing this one? LMAO!

  • Disaster.

  • It would be fun to watch though.... LOL

  • I think the interview was made in late 80 or early 90, can someone post the complete interview, thanks a lot.

  • Got me thinking now if it was early than the mid 90's, I will try and locate the date and post it here, it was an interview for an Italian television show about the Beatles, and quite a few other people were involved including Donovan

  • whoa....i think i'm in love! lol

  • She is lovely, be it 1969 or 2007! When was the "later" clip taken?

  • During the Mid 90's Around 94/95

  • thanks for posting

  • She never stopped recording or singing just performing, have you heard "valentine", (released this year on her own label "Mary Hopkin Music) it is wonderful,

  • I love this song and this film clip, thanks for posting
