Serena and venus have the most amazing serve in womens division i also think safarova has an amazing serve, and for all those people who say mean and rude stuff about the william sisters they need to get a life. u are all jealous of their fame succes and championships .
People resort to insults when they have nothing better to say. There are PLENTY of players on tour bigger than her. Dinara Safina, Sharapova, Lisicki, Bartoli, Petrova etc.
SERENA'S THE ONLY PLAYER IN THE OPEN ERA TO WIN 3 SLAMS AFTER FACING MATCH POINTS TO OPPONENTS. At Aussie Open against Shahar Peer, Kutsesnova, Clijsters, and then Dementieva at Wimbledon. Serena's the toughest mentally, to beat her, you literally need to wack her head with a racket or not going to be easy.
Thank you for those stats sir! She is coming to speak to our group (mostly young girls) and if you don't mind I will borrow those (not the whacking part) to introduce her. I am going to host the event. You are awesome. :)
@AJB3 AZARENKA WILL ONLY WIN A SLAM WHEN/IF MASHA, SERENA, AND KIM ARE INJURED, RETIRED, OR HAVE LOST EARLY IN A SLAM DRAW TO SOMEBDOY ELSE. BWHAHAHAHAHA!
@AJB3 yes dear but vika still had to BEAT Her, i'm sure serena has won matches being injured - the 2007 wimbledon one against hantuchova as a case in point. Azarenka still WON.
And she is a future grand slam champ i am sure. don't diss her
@jankovictennis Azarenka cant handle the pressure. she's really good. but if she could get her game together enough to beat the top players and pass the quarterfinals she might have a shot. but as for right now, she doesnt stand a chance.
Damn so serena beat this girl 3 year in a Row at The Australian open? ha Commentators: Azerenka would have won if it wasnt for heat, she had serena on the ropes. 10' Azerenka was the better player but serena wanted it more.. lalala la bullshit
wasn't this young lady victoria suppose win against serena, because she won miami when serena was injured, oh well go serena and good luck in new york at the us open, hope venus wins first she needs it
yup, she looked this sharp 4 four rounds and idk what happened against jankovic. (sigh) takes seven gr8 ones 2 win though. go serena 2009!!!! let's recall she's got Oz titles from 2003, 2005 and 2007. we'll see in a few weeks.
Serena would still have won. A better Henin would have won either. If you can make Maria run a lot, she'll lose because she's tall and sluggish, and she would get tired.
I think Serena would have won in 2 sets, maybe 6-3, 6-2. Serena in 07 grew in confidence as Maria had nothing on her shots, allowing Williams the time on the ball to hit heavy returns and outright winners. However if she faced Maria of 08, there would probably have been some scrappy and loud rallies form the baseline, but Serena's consistent and devastating power accompanied by the sheer mental stamina that she had and has since developed, it is clear that Williams would have still prevailed.
I totally agree. Nevermind i hope she takes the Berlin crown (beating Henin on the way of course), does as well in Rome and wins back the Roland Garros crown. This years Wimbledon would be fantastic if Venus and Serena face each other in the final. Between them they have been in 7/8 wimbldon finals since 2000, winning 6 of them. Lets hope both sisters take it to the top 5 players and prove those anti-williams nitwits who were and are the greatest female players in proffesional tennis!
I'm really looking forward to this summer's tennis...with Berlin, Rome, Paris, and Wimbledon...even the Olympics. Justine has a lot of points to defend and so far her ranking has dropped dramatically. Serena has a great chance to catch up plus the US open events she couldn't play due to her thumb.
I said Justine's ranking would do just that...I was saying that last year, and people were calling me a dumbass...I mean yes, Justine HAS won two titles this year (Sydney and Antwerp), but those are Tier II titles, so the fields were nowhere near as strong as they could have been...but honestly, what has she done since then?...nothing...she will not be #1 by the end of the year, and everyone with sense knows that...Justine is losing her passion I think...pulling out of Rome citing FATIGUE?
Maybe but not in 2 sets, def. not. Maria lost in three sets the same year against Serena on clay, on HC, she sure has her chances, btw Maria could have won in two sets during Charleston.
what are you talking about? serena's won 2 slams in a row. she's playing her best tennis since 2002-3. She's been kicking ass since 2007. 2009 will be even better for serena. anyways sharapova has been out for months
its not even a matter of what if henin or sharapova were still playing. the fact is that serena proves her best when it counts. every player has been inconsistent at one point or another. why don't you gear your attention to ivanovic instead of serena who has been off since the french open
Of course Serena does not play her best the whole tournament because she don't have to. Thats the beauty of it Serena saves her best for when she has to bring it out to make sure she wins. This is why Serena comes back after dropping the first set and still take the match so often. Why burn all your energy every match trying to make your opponent look bad by trying to win 6-0,6-0
I suggest u go back and take a look at whimb 08, she only lost to the best grass court her sis, but did not drop a set, and lets see how about uso 08 did not drop a set thats two slams back to back if that's not consistent enough. and I am tired of people saying serena is not consistent, she has the number one thing at first strike that she is consistent and that is her serve. I rather have that more than ground strokes, cause your serve can end points quick, and that's why she has 10 slams.
I think athletic would be more apt, not all female tennis players should stick to the ever so stereotypical blonde hair blue eyes and stick thin look. PS SERENA SHOULD HAVE WON THIS YEARS AO...never mind i predict she will win it next year after winning the rest of the years grand slams and the olympics to achieve a 'Golden Grand Slam' - wait and see!

I wonder how Azarenka would have gone against Serena at AO09 if she hadn't retired... She did beat her at Miami after all.
GingerMouseIsBack 2 years ago
Serena would've beat Azarenka. Serena has come from being a set down so many times in her career.
Oh, and Serena was injured in the miami final I don't think it's really an indication.

Serena was just great during the final, Maria was great the whole tournament, Serena can't play that level on a consistent basis, unlike Maria.

Does it change the fact Serena can"t play her best level during a whole tournament? No.
And yeah Serena is winning Slams, but u can't deny the fact Henin is retired, and Sharapova injured.
