this aint ultra rare... i've still got a copy of this on VHS from 1997 (The original... this episode came along with other episodes of other cartoons... i'd say its not rare at all..
EEEEEEEEEEUUUHHHH WOWIE WHADDA RIP OFF!!!! DEH DISNEY IS BE STOLEN THINGS FROM DEH AMINES!!! WHADDA FUGZ UP WIDDAT? EEEEEUUUUHHH!!!! HURFY DURF FUCK DISNEY!!!!!
YEAH because Disney used to always make up their own characters, like Snow White and Cinderella, they're totally original Disney characters! They weren't in stories hundreds of years prior.
@elbethere Actually, I messed up my fact checking. Disney intended to buy the rights for Kimba, since they had started the project... They couldn't get the rights, and rather than scrapping the project, they released it anyways. Disney was a Kimba fan.
I remember this when I was a little girl, it was my all time favorite, I had never met my dad and used to love when Kimba would go to the cave and talk to Ceaser, and how his mom died to save him on the boat, wish kids had this today instead of half hour commercials they watch now
the last time I saw this was 41 years ago...I loved Kimba!!!and speed racer was right before this show...also, before this scene kimba and his mother on in chains on a ship, the ship goes down and kills the mother...that is what I remember..thanks for sharing this incredible cartoon...
This is the 1965 lost dub, which is better then the slightly newer 1966 dub, though they WERE aired in the same year. In the 1966 version, Kimba's mother says nothing after he says "Mother!". This is better, don't you think?
This one might have been edited out, but they did another version in the 1970's-80's looking Kimba. I know. I have the DVD. If it isn't any bit different though, then they might have just reused this scene and redubbed it.
Honestly, it has been a very long time, since I have seen any Kimba. This scene, however, looks just like the one I have always remembered. Perhaps there is something different. I just cannot tell.
Ah. So I am not cracking up. LOL. This is the one scene I remember when I think about "Kimba", and I always thought it was part of the opening credits/ theme, and I was surprised when I found the opening and the swimming scene was not part of it. I DO in fact remember this scene as a child, so it definitely aired during the 60s.
How could such wonderful clip got lost? It's fortunate then that there so many loyal fans trying to revive it, and when they do, the more happy they will be.
Btw, I never got chance to see this clip before, thank you for sharing it.
AmyLou100 - I can't tell if YouTube closed your account because you were advertising on your profile page or if you closed it yourself. :'-( If YouTube closed it and you're still interested in swapping a copy of that tape could you please get back in contact with me from a new account? Thanks
I also own this clip .... i have a 90 minute feature film - kimba the white lion son of caeser - on betamax (before there were VHS) and i cant seem to find anyone else who has this or knows anything about it!
Do you have the ability to turn it into digital format??? If you don't would you like to arrange it with me? This is a serious offer. My BetaMax tape turned black, as they do, how is the quality on yours?
I'd love to hear from you on this - very serious. Get in touch and I'll discuss how to go about saving it if you like. :-)
This is my favorite all time show...it took me 25 years to find it again, thanks to ebay. I was so afraid that it wasn't going to live up to me memory...but it was just as good...Kimba Rocks!
Lionking copied this, and when the director of this movie heard that, he just laughed, and said that he was happy that someone loved his video enough to copy it!
I think that they didn't technicly 'Steal' All this from Kimba and put into TLK and so forth but the hmm..updated it like brought it more up to date, they sorta kept the story line but it's a movi not a series
This was ndeed a ~ VERY ~ moving scene.... I thought this was missing, I DO remember watching this when I was a kid also, and I am GLAD to have watched it again! ~ What memories! ~ I also Heard that a KIMBA (animé) - that's right - an A-N-I-M-E remake is coming into play... and KIMBA is the (TRUE) King (NOT) the ripped off remake that is the lion king...
I remember seeing Kimba swimming home and I also remember seeing his mother in the stars... So, did I see this clip 40 years ago or did I see something similar?
I completly agree, this has always stuck with me since childhood for 25 years, it's amazing sometimes what we remember, and the effect it has years on! x
I've always loved this show and remember the lioness being trapped and urging Kimba to leave her. The stars falling alway broke my heart. 30 some odd years later, this always has stuck w/ me.
Actually simba means lion in Swahili. So whatever is similar about these things (and for the record, I don't really care) the name simba probably is just a coincidence.
well it was extremely popular at a time, you can find translations of this show in many languages, including english, german, arabic and I think I saw a french version when I was little. It's the first colored animated series from japan.
An other series aired after, Jungle emperor, about the same lion but grown up. There was a remake in 1993 (not a bad one). than, movies were made:
This is the way I remember Kimba... wish there were more clips .... wasn't there a Centaur?.... I remember a clip on a mountain with the archer/centaur.. looking up at the sky
I read in a book (Japanamerica) that years before he became big, Osamu Tezuka made money drawing Disney characters without their consent and selling his drawings for cash, so in a sense, they were both guilty of "theft". Apparently, there was always a good bond between Tezuka and Disney. They said he would probably be honoured that Disney made the Lion King, were he still alive today. (Although I do think its unacceptable they refuse to accept any similarity)

nah actually the lion king stole everything from kimba. kimba came out in the 60's or some shite but TLK came out innn ... the 90s or somethin... they stole it ALL from Kimba
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! I love love love love this cartoon, and this clip makes me cry still. Anyone has this cartoon, this particular version, please upload it on youtube!!!!
Does anyone know if this was made originally for an American audience or Japaneese? I was noticing similarities in styles and in voice actors to the Speed Racer series which I also watched around the same time.
Theres a youtube vid up with the same clip, exept without the second part of eliza's speech. This could every well be a lost dub, it could been a test tape but was turned down by the FCC. Its just a damn shame that eliza's full speech wasn't on TV 40 years ago, but turned up 40 years later!, i wonder how graig anderson got a hold of the actual audio? There could be more of this tape missing, he even said that this episode might have lost audio or scenes...damn, anyways thanks for uploading!
u here his mommy say "KIMBA, my brave little lion cub" and then the background singers say "LEO" LAwl, silly dubbers.... (by the way the Paja's cub's real name is Leo in the Japanese version)
well I don't, its very hard to find english episodes on here too, I'd usually have to read the subtitles, well atleast the last time I had a good look I did.3/4 so far today
Ha I got 2 dvd's for chrsitmas from my parents....I don't remember watching these but my dad made a comment about me loving this show as much as my neice loved watching little bear......that had to be alot cuz she loved that show.. I think it's funny cuz Lion King was my favorite Disney movie now I see where they ripped it off from....guess sublimanaly I did remeber it =)
Over a decade after this show was made the Tezuka remade his own show it was called
The New Adventures Of Kimba it's so much like this but more advanced in animation because Tezuka's skills had improved since this but the origanal is so much better.
In defense of the creator Tezuka, he made Kimba (Leo) white to represent peace. White being a universal color of peace (white dove and all that). Tezuka was a humanitarian, and wanted only peace and unity. Apparently it was his pacificism that stopped his company from suing the pants off of Disney. So, while I understand what you are saying, I don't believe there is any subtle ethnicism going on in Kimba. But, the evil panthers black...hmmm...
I wasn't serious, but I am embarrassed because somehow I commented about the wrong clip! I was commenting about the clip in which the panthers. Several folks questioned Tezuka's choice of white as good and black as evil. My comment makes a whole lot more sense in that forum.
the fact that Kimba sees his mother in the stars is analogous to Simba seeing his father in the stars. Disney is a total ripoff artist. Nothing is original in their cell animation. Albeit they do it well. Only Pixar animation is original. It's sad that Jobs sold Pixar to Disney
you know, since the beginning of literature people have been stealing ideas from one another. in teh renaissance it was actually frowned upon to bring something new to the scene; people prefer what they know and are familiar with. for example, not a single one of shakespeare's plays were original in any sense. but it's all about retelling the story and using those ideas in a new way.
This is true. There are few "original ideas". Monty Pytthon's influence was an earlier British comedy troupe, the Goonies. and CBS's All in the Family was an adaptation of BBC's 'For Better or Worse." What I object to was Roy Disney Jr who said that Lion King was Disney's FIRST true original story. Bullshit. What a bald face lie. Kimba or Simba was based on an old African story to begin with. Still, character for character, and storyline, Lion King was a rip off of Kimba.
It's not a matter of legal or illegal, but a matter of moral honesty. It fine and dandy to adapt, even re-make, but give credit to credit due. Roy Disney Jr. stated that the Lion King was a truly original Disney Studio idea. This was not true. And this was not 1960s but the 1994. This is "now".
It's Japanese manga. They draw everything wide eyed and cute. Albino lions do exist. Very rare. Most mammals will ocassonally have an albino. Different from the white snow leopard which is white because of it's habitat
White tigers aren't albino. At one point in time a tiger was found in the wild with white fur, blue eyes, and brown stripes most likely due to a deformity. Then they took it into captivity and bred it with a regular bengal tiger until white babies. =3
I have Jungle Emperor books from 1958(this character is older than most think he is) and they show Leo on a log raft when his mother appears in the night sky. This story seems to change with time, but is always very emotional. The death of Panja is quite graphic in the 1958 book version as well. Much more so than in the Kimba or Leo TV versions. Just thought I'd share this info.
I haven't seen this in 40 years and remeber it like it was tomorrow. Watching this certainly makes you contemplate where we came from and where we have been. Has it really been 40 years.
Probably because this sequence was TOO emotional and moving for a younger audience {"What are you CRYING for?"}, Fred Ladd decided to create a less emotional version- and THAT was the one seen in the first episode, syndicated in September 1966.
I just realized that there is a scene in: The Mysterious Cities of Gold. that mirrors the wonderful butterfly scene in Kimba the white lion.
Mendoza, Esteban and everybody are abord the ship stunned at a appearence of a lot of migrating golden butterflys. Mendoza says: Golden Butterflys, thats a good sign.
Kimba the White Lion is More Beautiful,Noble, Special, and Loved than I ever would be able to describe. Thank You! for sharing it with the world. I pin a Gold Medal upon your coat and in love and friendship, I salute you!
I have a porcelin deer with Japan markings on it.
Wow, thank you. Our "Leo" is known KIMBA in the world...bit strange for me but glad to know he is loved by people in other countries. (in JPN, Kimba is known "Leo", whilte lion"
My brother loved this so I grow up to watch this cartoon with him a lot (repeated version though)

Pokeball26 2 years ago

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! I love love love love this cartoon, and this clip makes me cry still. Anyone has this cartoon, this particular version, please upload it on youtube!!!!
jennaniM 3 years ago 2

I think it's funny cuz Lion King was my favorite Disney movie now I see where they ripped it off from....guess sublimanaly I did remeber it =)
greenleafkhadgar 4 years ago
Over a decade after this show was made the Tezuka remade his own show it was called
The New Adventures Of Kimba it's so much like this but more advanced in animation because Tezuka's skills had improved since this but the origanal is so much better.
Katidid92 4 years ago
In defense of the creator Tezuka, he made Kimba (Leo) white to represent peace. White being a universal color of peace (white dove and all that). Tezuka was a humanitarian, and wanted only peace and unity. Apparently it was his pacificism that stopped his company from suing the pants off of Disney. So, while I understand what you are saying, I don't believe there is any subtle ethnicism going on in Kimba. But, the evil panthers black...hmmm...
jehlert1 4 years ago
I hope you're only joking about the last part, panthers are SUPPOSED to be black, anyone who sees racism in that is paranoid. :P
detroittigersfan119 3 years ago
I wasn't serious, but I am embarrassed because somehow I commented about the wrong clip! I was commenting about the clip in which the panthers. Several folks questioned Tezuka's choice of white as good and black as evil. My comment makes a whole lot more sense in that forum.
oops... silly me...

Houminid 4 years ago 7
the fact that Kimba sees his mother in the stars is analogous to Simba seeing his father in the stars. Disney is a total ripoff artist. Nothing is original in their cell animation. Albeit they do it well. Only Pixar animation is original. It's sad that Jobs sold Pixar to Disney
toyo2960 4 years ago
you know, since the beginning of literature people have been stealing ideas from one another. in teh renaissance it was actually frowned upon to bring something new to the scene; people prefer what they know and are familiar with. for example, not a single one of shakespeare's plays were original in any sense. but it's all about retelling the story and using those ideas in a new way.
kfetter16 4 years ago
This is true. There are few "original ideas". Monty Pytthon's influence was an earlier British comedy troupe, the Goonies. and CBS's All in the Family was an adaptation of BBC's 'For Better or Worse." What I object to was Roy Disney Jr who said that Lion King was Disney's FIRST true original story. Bullshit. What a bald face lie. Kimba or Simba was based on an old African story to begin with. Still, character for character, and storyline, Lion King was a rip off of Kimba.
toyo2960 4 years ago 2
Yeah but this is now, when you take a copyrighted idea and claim it to be original. That is called stealing, not borrowing, which is illegal.
Leotaku 4 years ago
It's not a matter of legal or illegal, but a matter of moral honesty. It fine and dandy to adapt, even re-make, but give credit to credit due. Roy Disney Jr. stated that the Lion King was a truly original Disney Studio idea. This was not true. And this was not 1960s but the 1994. This is "now".
toyo2960 4 years ago
that thing dont seem to be a lion, is like a mouse. i have never saw a white lion.
casgar49 4 years ago
It's Japanese manga. They draw everything wide eyed and cute. Albino lions do exist. Very rare. Most mammals will ocassonally have an albino. Different from the white snow leopard which is white because of it's habitat
toyo2960 4 years ago
there are white lions, just watch wikipedia and google.
because you cant see, doesnt mean that it doesnt exist.
RyuuYareYare 4 years ago
White tigers aren't albino. At one point in time a tiger was found in the wild with white fur, blue eyes, and brown stripes most likely due to a deformity. Then they took it into captivity and bred it with a regular bengal tiger until white babies. =3
That's all I remember.
And Disney is totally a rip off artist. D=
ShakoraYomi 4 years ago
Oh wait, wrong species. xD
Yeah white lions exist, too. They're albino. x3
ShakoraYomi 4 years ago
white lions are not albino actually. It's a recessive gene that turns the fur white, much like what happens with white tigers.
