such a genious Don. im pleased to see people are starting to recognise. this tune's been on my favourites for well over a year (perhaps 2) but its never got old. jus more familiar. kik arse fellow musician
I've been trying for 2 days (time I usually use for any other song) to tab this song by ear and I can't get passed the first 10 seconds of the solo!!!!! This song is just perfect. Don you're the best!!!!!
@rogiermusic I think it might be CFBbEbEGC (that's a half lower)... basically EBDGBE two whole steps lower. I say that because the lowest note he seems to be hitting is a C.
@DuskY1991 Yeah, but I tried it and altough it was al long time ago, I was the closest to this tuning with C#G#BEG#C#. Why that F in CFBbEbEGC? Isnt it a G?
stanndard tuning except the 5th string the A tune up to a B carefully, or replace it with a D string and lower it to a B. the rest of the strings are standard.
OR.. this is what i have done. I got a thick D string and replaced the 5th A string with the thick D string which makes it easier to tune to the B. It benefits aswell especially for other songs like Andy Mckee's where the A string needs to go to a C.
hi, I'm just trying to understand the question...do you mean tune the A up to B ? if so, I do this regularly when I tune to open E with regular strings . I wouldnt go up to C though, if this is what you mean??? Thanks.
okk the dude was asking how to tune the A string up to a B which is what is needed for this tuning. basically either try tuning it up carefully and try not to pop it or restring the 5th string with a thick D (4th) string and its so much easier and you can get up to higher tunings.
I just found this guy and watched a few of his videos. I can't believe I've never come across him, he is absolutley amazing. His creativity puts indescribable feelings in you.
This is exactly what makes Don Ross so great. How he's doing that funky little drive, having that half-jazzy Steely Dan-like thing going on harmonically, seasoned with nice flageolettes. This is funky, other fingerstyle guitarists with their sugar sweet pop harmonies are just left behind by this.
Like the painter (Bob Ross) you can really make a nice portrait... "just some little happy notes" :) i thought i even saw your guitar smile on this one!
CGCFAD sounds ALOT more like Don's tunning in this one then EBDGBE.... if you have any EAR whatsoever, the 6th string is obviously NOT an E. I'm still not 100% convinced CGCFAD is the correct one, but I'll see if I can't figure it out & post it. CGCFAD is very close though.
ZeroG83 and JonnyCrah: your ears are right, but that's not the tuning. The tuning on a *standard* guitar is EBDGBE. The confusion comes because in the workshop where this was recorded, Don played the tune on his *baritone* guitar. Baritones are usually tuned 3.5 steps lower than standard (altho' I don't know what Don's usual tuning is on his baritone). So you are right: you hear lower notes than standard pitch, but if to play this on a standard guitar you'd tune to EBDGBE.
@docteurneo You are right, standard *tuning* is EADGBE ... but that's not what I said. I said that if you are going to play this tune on a standard *guitar*, then you tune the guitar to EBDGBE. In this video, Don is using a baritone guitar, so although pitches between the strings are the same, the tuning you hear is a lower pitch.
Actually, the tuning sounds more like CGCFAD. I could be wrong on one of the top strings (it's hard to tell just by listening to him play) so don't quote me, but it's definitely lower than the standard E tuning scale. Amazing song. My hat is off to Mr. Ross.
Nope, as I posted in the vid summary, and as someone posted below, the tuning is EBDGBE ... standard tuning with the A raised one step to B. No question about it.
Baritone = guitar with longer scale than usual with bigger strings and lower tunings. This tune is almost standard tune except for the 'A' string (second biggest) that is tunned one whole tone up. So on a regular guitar, this tune would be, from low to high, E, B, D, G, B, E.
tabs? anyone? anywhere? help?

this is not an acoustic guitar itsa clasicc one like mine

1. Listen to the sound of the guitar ... That alone gives it away that it's not a classical.
2. Look at the tuning pegs ... Those aren't the types of pegs used to tune classical guitars.
