STALKER weapons are much better than HL2. That pistol shown as you say "pop pop" is a PB 6P9 which has a sound suppressor (hence the reduced sound). Also, STALKER is a game where you really need to use your iron sights. You can't play it like Half-Life or Doom (or PO'ed or Redneck Rampage or whatnot) and expect to be successful. Also, you probably played v1.0 which was admittedly flawed. Back in '07, it was patched several times (up to v1.0005 as per '07).

OMG stalker was gash

i downloaded it off steam about a month ago and gave up adter a few days, the gunplay is boring, the environment is atmospheric but traveling is chore. The guns are woefully inaccurate and i thought the misions were generic. And it kept Crashing Theres hardly any story- find strelock- thats it. Or ask everyone about the Zone but CBA.

Noobtoob was right - in my opinion. Just let it go, so what if Tobin didnt like, having siad that i agree with everything he said.

@120Vanquish120 You must have gotten a non-patched or not up-to-date version. If you're playing vanilla ShoC, be sure it's v1.0005 or better (I think v1.0006 is the most recent). To extend the game's replay value, try a mod (Oblivion Lost 2010 is definately recommended). A lot of mods improve weapons and gameplay AND increase the number of NPC spawns (enemy, friendly, and monster alike).

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was one of the best games of its time.

No, it wasn't full of gigantic explosions and bullshit Hollywood type action sequences. But, it had-- and still has, the best Atmosphere of any game (excluding S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sequels, of course).

It irritates me that the NoobToob guys have such ignorant opinions, too. I mean, I usually agree with you guys. But, this time, you're completely and utterly wrong.

@Buzzap14 If you get the Atlas Spawn mod for STALKER (which exists for all STALKER games), or if it's merged with any mod you happen to have, you CAN create action movie-esque scenarios. Think 'Aliens' but with a horde of pseudogiants instead of xenomorphs. Or those hilarious radioactive fleshpigs (which are actually a legit enemy, not weaklings, especially in mods like Oblivion Lost).

STALKER is actually a decent game, especially if you like FPS's like Fall out 3. It has its faults for sure but it's good enough to get past. Plus its pretty cheap now... i got it for $1.49 durring the Steam xmas sales

@mamba5445 Fallout 3 doesn't have iron sights be default. STALKER does. F3 needs an iron sight mod to be reasonably playable. New Vegas corrects this. I'd almost say New Vegas is the American STALKER except it's more of an RPS like Borderlands. STALKER's RPG elements don't detract from its FPSness. At least 'Shadow of Chernobyl'. Clear Sky and CoP have more RPGishness (like altering weapon stats).

You guys have to try the newer Stalker: Clear Sky. It came out like a year ago and it's so much better than Shadow of Chernobyl and in about a month or two Stalker: Call of Pripyat is going out. The graphics of Clear Sky look amazing and the gameplay is more fun and realistic. You should really try them when you get a chance!

Stalker though... I can see why it attracts the drama. It's a lot like Resident Evil 1 -- you had (have :D) people who hated it for not being something else, and people who loved it for what it was.

It's an adventure game, in the sense that text-based games that required imagination were. Some company wanted to make a game about an obscure Russian sf story and/or Tarkovsky movie, and they did.

So if people dig the setting - they get into it. If not - then not.

In the game, stalkers actually do sit by campfires (or lie down if they're hitting the sack...oh wait, that doesn't mean what it used to mean either!) and talk about adventures and stuff (which some might philosophically interpret as the "meaning of life" or "becoming a man" or whatnot). Becoming a man, in the Zone, means achieving self-liberation. Which is, of course, what being a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is all about.

Wow, at first I really liked this...but then the STALKER review...wow. They totally did not get it, and missed almost everything that made the game great.

The MP is not the best, but the SP is what matters. Plus, it is definately NOT as bad as they say. It's a genuine attempt at doingt something new, plus, it's not as scripted as they make it out to be.

I did play it on the highest settings, actually. Play Half Life 2 and then play Stalker and tell me that the physics and graphics are as good. We explained what we didn't like about the game in great detail, no need to take the review personally.
