  • What Ron Paul doesn't explain is how he'll manage to work with the House, Senate, and the governors, especially considering as a representative he can't even get work done, he knows nothing of compromise.

He also doesn't explain how the country (and the country's economic partner) will be able to remain stable (I mean financially and whatnot) with such short term, radical changes. I could understand if it was a long-term investment, but he wants everything done practically in a term.

  • @TheScientificTrinity Considering how much bad legislation gets leached into the country by the house and senate every year I think I would prefer a veto happy POTUS over a co-conspirator.

  • @BlindMaphisto I wasn't talking about rejecting legislation. It's one thing to consistently block certain legislation from getting through and hoping that they'll turn around and support the right legislation, but two things: Ron Paul has no connections within Congress and has no ability to influence Congress from the outside, and, as said earlier, Ron Paul knows nothing of compromise.

On the other hand, if you can hold a politicians donors and voters, you have influence.

  • @TheScientificTrinity Yeah I knew what you meant. But can you really have compromise and reject the horseshit they shovel at the same time? I think he would use the bully pulpit more than any president in history to get the people on his side against and for legislation. Really that would be his only options on a lot of things and frankly if it worked it could be a turning point in US politics.

  • @BlindMaphisto Well, it could backfire on him (I mean, the Republicans and Democrats have been keeping their citizens down for almost 100 years now, so I'm sure they could do practically whatever), and he could be labeled as a do-nothing president. Congress could flip the strategy on him.

  • @TheScientificTrinity The Sopa protests prove the people still have the power to move Washington. The problem is people need to keep at it. People really need to start paying attention to politics and they really don't want to.

  • @BlindMaphisto Well, SOPA/PIPA is somewhat different, only somewhat. You have large online corporations and expansive, mainstream websites (Wikipedia for example) that are against it for their own reasons. The anti-SOPA/PIPA movement is largely unorganized with everyday individuals, internet aside. The voters against SOPA/PIPA could do so much more and organize local protests and such.

    In a perfect world, eh?
