The annoying thing is that not only did the Undertaker's reign last for less than a week,but also the next time he became WWF Champion came 6 years after that pay-per-view!
maybe not at a wrestlmania to some people but i would say this undertaker had more energy and it would be a great time for taker to have a good wwe title run
From that logo bug at the bottom left hand corner, this airing of a vintage match took place after the name change. Yet a WWF reference by Gorilla at the end went by uncensored.
This is one of my favourite era's of wrestling! Just think...if triple threat matches had of existed back then...wow...main event of the Royal Rumble could have been Hogan v Flair v Undertaker for the WWF Title! Back in 92' that could have been a hell of a match, and one we would look back at now as a classic! Flair could have won the match with a ''dirty win'' over Undertaker then gone on to defend one on one against Hogan at WrestleMania VIII...still Flair v Savage was a great match so meh!Lol
taker has paid his dues,thats why he's dominant.he's a veteran of the ring.now if anyone is booked a certain way its guys like cena, and orton.btw how is a 46 yr old wrestler supposed to look anyway?
@tommytrixter I actually agree with you, Undertaker looks great, and I mean great for his age. He's lost a little quickness and a little strength but the fact he can still go better then most guys is just amazing.
@Divizionn I have to disagree, but the way he wrestles now is different from back then so you have to pay attention. Which is something I love about the character is that he's evolved both character wise and in the ring.
@swsanders As you said, he evolved. He does what he needs, nothing more, nothing less. I noticed when he's playing his character he's slower, indeed. Remember when he was "American badass" ? He was somewhat himself and a lot quicker, stronger than anytime before.
@Divizionn I remember that he was a lot stronger but he faced lighter opponents too which made him look stronger. But that's age the man is what 45-46 now it's amazing he can still get in the ring and do what he does especially for a big man.
@swsanders Well, yea, he's getting old and retiring after wrestlmania 28. But no, I wouldnt say Brock Lesnar is one of "Light" opponents + he defeated both big show and brock in 2v1 match.
@rrevamuntan no Hogan never beat Taker fairly...actually the funny ironic thing is they have had 3 matches Taker is 2 -1 against him but neither one of them beat the other one fair and square w/o interference or using a weapon
@Spideymrw, actually, we could say Taker pinned Hogan clean the first time. Hogan never made contact with that folded steel chair when he got tombstoned.
I love how all wrestlers back then were just hillbilies from West Virginia and north Florida (Warrior, Hulk, Flair, Savage, Shawn Michael, etc...) who just lifted a bunch of weights and got drunk all the time. They really need to bring that back haha....nonetheless I still get goose bumps and feel nostalgic watching these.
wrestling is so fake andstupid I haven't watched it in years but lately have been watching the old school wrestling like this and it was quite entertaining back then.
Says the fag who wasn't even alive when this match took place lol. No one cares what a little kid thinks about things that went on before he was born.
Because it's fucking stupid, that's why. It's like a 16 year old arguing with an 85 year old about the great depression. If someone didn't actually grow up through the 80's as a kid, they have NO idea just how big Hogan was. All they have to go by are stories and youtube clips. None of that will ever equal actually experiencing the real deal, as it happened.
Couldn't have said it better. When any of those clowns ends up on Sports Illustrated, come talk to me. When they get a title defense televised on MTV, come talk to me. Because of Hogan, guys like Cena, Austin, etc became guys that could be in movies. Hogan was the harbinger. This whole business became mainstream because for all of McMahon's vision, without Hogan, it wouldn't have worked. Just look at the effects. He left the AWA, it slowly fell apart. Hogan IS PRO WRESTLING to most.
paul bearer has a mental problem with that urn, the undertaker is deadley with his chokeholds, i wonder how many parents were scared to let their kids get close to the dark man, when they came to realize it's all bullshit!
Gasp! Hulk Hogan opened the urn! :O I don't think that ever happened again did it? Although i remember seeing some match with undertaker in it and the urn was like spewing out green smoke..anyone know what i'm talking about?
@summerpresley1 total number of pins would require a ton of research, but I believe he's been pinned by 21 different wrestlers, whether in singles, tag, or multi-man matches. In terms of clean pins in singles matches with no interference or controversy, I believe the number is 8.
@willyupshaw Tito Santana, Hulk Hogan, Mabel, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock, Kane, Kurt Angle, Triple H, Maven, Brock Lesnar, D-Von Dudley, John Cena, Randy Orton, Booker T, Edge, Batista, the Great Khali, Jeff Hardy, Vladimir Kozlov, Chris Jericho. That list consists of 17 world champions, there might be a couple others but those are off the top of my head. As clean singles pins, Austin, Brock, Edge, Batista, Khali, Kozlov, and Jericho all can claim them I believe, maybe one more.
@EWAShock That's much better than I could have done! In the general category I'd add Mankind, Bret Hart, and possibly the Ultimate Warrior, who definitely beat Undertaker in body bag matches and might have scored a pin during their feud of 91'.
In the clean singles pins: add Sid Justice.
That's 24, not counting the Warrior. I guess Undertaker's not as special as people think.
@willyupshaw totally forgot Bret. Mankind and Big Show both have knock-out victories on him as well which count as much as anything else. I know there's an unconfirmed pin for the Warrior during the Summer of 91 but I dunno. Which was the pin for Sid? Also Vader in 1997 is one more I forgot.
@EWAShock Justice got at least one clean pin at a house show I attended in London Ontario in 1991, right after he entered the wwf. Beat Undertaker with the powerbomb. I'm pretty sure they repeated the match for most of the tour, till Vince realized that Justice wasn't "the next one" and stopped pushing him.
@summerpresley1 I think u can go back to 85-92 but ur pretty much spot on. Although it was all pre-determined the characters of this era had for lack of a better term larger than life personalities. Many had mystery and intrigue. Today’s product IMO the wrestlers are too personable. When was the last time someone was from "parts unknown" ?
You wanna know what really pisses me off, is how the wwf or the wwe never showed the taker the respect he deserves. You see how short his first title reign was? And even now he's 45 years old, he's been in the WWF/WWE for 20 years and only is a 7 time world champion. And then you have chumps like John Cena and Triple H that's had more than 10 world titles. It's bullshit.
No retard, it was Hogan's backstage politics that kept Taker a short reign,He said he'd rather help put over younger guys then be a multiple time World champ.I agree with Cena, but why HHH?hes not a kiddy loving talentless,boring gimmick wrestler like Cena is
How do you know that? The setup into WM was supposed to be Flair/Hogan. The WHOLE WORLD wanted to see that...not just Hogan. The Undertaker was in a great spot, but he wasn't going to Main Event a WM with Hogan and Flair together in the WWF. We know Hogan kept ppl down, but there's nothing logically during this time that says HE stopped Mark Calloway from having an extended run. RR 92 was the best ever and WM 8 was going to be Hogan/Flair...why that didn't happen I have NO IDEA
@Tigerownsall1 What it really shows is what a joke the title is. Back in the days, champs held on to the belt for several years at a time. But after Savage's run of 1 year ended at WM V, it took 19 years to get another reign that long.
@kidlou in 1991 you didnt get authority figures knocked down,chairshots, interferenc and ashes to the face. And since it was Undertakers first televised loss, it was a big time finish. Dont just it by todays standards. Wrestling fans have seen everything. Probably the reason why house show attendance, ratings and ppv buys are in the shitter.
@nicky4221 that makes ZERO sense. if Hogan didnt want to drop the title, he wouldnt have. Taker was a transitional champion. He lost the belt so they could build up Hogans rematch at the Tuesday in Texas PPV a couple of days later. Hogan was asked to lose the belt so he could draw a buyrate for the return match. Thats business. No different from Rocky losing in the first film and winning in the second. Undertaker would have sucked as the champion in 1991. he was boring and an abysmal back then.
Undertaker wasn't boring he was Mytholical, slow in his pace to make sure his hits hurt and when it did he knew he did his job. Thats why Paul Bearer was there to help him, to guide him when he did a mistake. 1991 Undertaker would easily make current undertaker look like something out of a horror movie.
@tonshaad1230 maybe to you, but to anyone who had to sit through the stinkers he had with Hacksaw Duggan, El Gigante and Kamala, he was boring as fuck. just a pure gimmick wrestler. his matches with Mankind, Vader, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels knock the spots off this version of the character.
Excuse me? Early 1990's Taker couldn't do alot of things with people like the Giant Gonzales and Kamala because either they had Gigantism or a Super-heavyweight. He wasn't boring maybe to you. Okay if it is a pure gimmick then why is it still considered one of the greatest gimmicks ever made? his battles with Vader were shit, Vader couldn't handle Taker. Shawn Michaels was just a pretty boy who had to sell *unless you're talking about WM25 & WM26 then he did a damn good job* Hart...
@ianhitman Ever since The Undertaker debuted in the WWF every single one of his matches were classic. FACE IT THE UNDERTAKER IS THE GREATEST LEGEND/WRESTLER OF ALL TIME, IN ANY FEDERATION. There never was and never will be anyone that touches the undetaker's level. Except maybe for Hogan.
people you gotta give hogan his dues great mic skills, he may not be the best tactical wrestler but he can sure perform in the ring look how he sold this match with taker and with other opponents, yeah he had simples moves and after the pop he won but he sold a beat down like one of the best and that in itself makes him great did any of you ever see Goldberg sell a punishment like this and yeah hogan cheated so what how many heels cheated to get a title....great post
Perhaps planting seeds for the transition to Hollywood Hogan and the nWo five yrs later!
Hollywood (Heel) vs Taker (Face) in the mid-90s woudda been nice to see.
Good Nostalgia here! Gorilla and Brain were that era's JR and King!
Stuff seems to have been cut from Hennans rant at the end. After saying "Tunney Come Here - I've got it all on monitor" - he then goes "He cheated - blinded Undertaker with the ashes and then hand a handfull of his tights"
easily taker from 1990-1993 undertaker now sells moves and looks like he feels pain this taker is the other way around plus he has a good 20 years of youth and 29 lbs on him last ride and hells gate wont do much to the man who cant feel pain
IO have watched this a million times. I always wondered if the match went later than it was supposed to have or if like Hogan was gonna be late getting to the Airport or something. He did his posses as quickly as he could
It's Heenan and Monsoon. I think they were the regular commentary team during late 1991 when this took place. Ventura left the commentary position shortly beforehand. I know it's not Ventura and Heenan. I think there's an unwritten law that you can't have two heel commentators without a face one involved.
anyone who thinks that hulkamania is dead at this point is an idiot. while hogan wasnt the dominate face of wrestling anymore he was still mega popular. the crowd erupted when he won the title back and the crowd was angry when he lost the belt. ppl were happy when he got the title shot at WM8. Flair was also famous and plenty of ppl followed him to the wwf when he came. so they cheered for their hero. when hogan came back after WCW closed he was cheered as a heel, and u say hulkamania is dead?
incase u didnt notice guys, the judge cheated, at that time everyone loved hulk hogen, no1 liked the undertaker, u can see when hulk holded undertaker down, the judge counted rly fast and when he reached to number 2, undertaker moved but they still counted like the undertaker lost which he actually won
Anyone that has wrestled before can tell you, the School Boy is the most dominating move in wrestling. Almost nobody gets out of it lol... Just ask Taker.
Can anyone tell me if that's Arn Anderson Front Row almost behind Paul Bearer? Blue Plaid Shirt ,could be if Flair was there? Looks like Arn lol

@ianhitman but having your first loss like that is so weak...i hate the big boot and leg drop but it should have been done....o well

i'd say next to Shawn Michaels Taker is the only one who has had the longest WWE carrer and never went to WCW
TravisDrago 1 year ago
@TravisDrago True, but remember, he originally came from WCW where he was Mean Mark Callus (sp).
krazygreen 1 year ago
@TravisDrago
He did go to WCW, remeber the gimmick "Mean Mark Callous"?
tonshaad1230 1 year ago
@tonshaad1230 ah yes your right but I only thought he was in Texas as that gimmick
TravisDrago 1 year ago
@TravisDrago
Nope, it was during his full run in WCW.

If you grew up during this era of wrestling and you can watch this and not get chills, you were never a real fan.

That's bullshit! Undertaker should've held the belt much longer than 6 days. I bet Hogan was pissing and moaning non-stop when he lost the belt.
nicky4221 1 year ago
@nicky4221 that makes ZERO sense. if Hogan didnt want to drop the title, he wouldnt have. Taker was a transitional champion. He lost the belt so they could build up Hogans rematch at the Tuesday in Texas PPV a couple of days later. Hogan was asked to lose the belt so he could draw a buyrate for the return match. Thats business. No different from Rocky losing in the first film and winning in the second. Undertaker would have sucked as the champion in 1991. he was boring and an abysmal back then.
ianhitman 1 year ago
@ianhitman
Undertaker wasn't boring he was Mytholical, slow in his pace to make sure his hits hurt and when it did he knew he did his job. Thats why Paul Bearer was there to help him, to guide him when he did a mistake. 1991 Undertaker would easily make current undertaker look like something out of a horror movie.
tonshaad1230 1 year ago
@tonshaad1230 maybe to you, but to anyone who had to sit through the stinkers he had with Hacksaw Duggan, El Gigante and Kamala, he was boring as fuck. just a pure gimmick wrestler. his matches with Mankind, Vader, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels knock the spots off this version of the character.
ianhitman 1 year ago
@ianhitman
Shawn Michaels was just a pretty boy who had to sell *unless you're talking about WM25 & WM26 then he did a damn good job* Hart...
tonshaad1230 1 year ago

Hogan cheating to win....EPIC!

1Webbman9 2 years ago
easily taker from 1990-1993 undertaker now sells moves and looks like he feels pain this taker is the other way around plus he has a good 20 years of youth and 29 lbs on him last ride and hells gate wont do much to the man who cant feel pain

I would agree

IO have watched this a million times. I always wondered if the match went later than it was supposed to have or if like Hogan was gonna be late getting to the Airport or something. He did his posses as quickly as he could

@shamwowftl
No way, that ain't Ventura. I know the difference between Heenan and Ventura's voice.
theboombody 2 years ago
ok arent heenan and ventura the commentators here with ventura with the scratier voice or am I confusing heenan with gorilla monsoon?
or am i just being crazy?
shamwowftl 2 years ago
@shamwowftl
It's Heenan and Monsoon. I think they were the regular commentary team during late 1991 when this took place. Ventura left the commentary position shortly beforehand. I know it's not Ventura and Heenan. I think there's an unwritten law that you can't have two heel commentators without a face one involved.
theboombody 2 years ago
anyone who thinks that hulkamania is dead at this point is an idiot. while hogan wasnt the dominate face of wrestling anymore he was still mega popular. the crowd erupted when he won the title back and the crowd was angry when he lost the belt. ppl were happy when he got the title shot at WM8. Flair was also famous and plenty of ppl followed him to the wwf when he came. so they cheered for their hero. when hogan came back after WCW closed he was cheered as a heel, and u say hulkamania is dead?
radicalman33 2 years ago
This was BY FAR the best finish in a Hogan match.

after that he didn't even win a world title until wrestlemania 13
krai999 2 years ago
incase u didnt notice guys, the judge cheated, at that time everyone loved hulk hogen, no1 liked the undertaker, u can see when hulk holded undertaker down, the judge counted rly fast and when he reached to number 2, undertaker moved but they still counted like the undertaker lost which he actually won
theked909 2 years ago
Anyone that has wrestled before can tell you, the School Boy is the most dominating move in wrestling. Almost nobody gets out of it lol... Just ask Taker.
