  • Yo... Me & Quik share that lefty producer bond. We are GREAT CREATORS US LEFTYS.

  • oh shit quik tha master tha sensai need to listen to this man rite here

  • Dj Quik is in the muthafukin house!

  • Quick is that dude. but all those that harp on an on about how this mpc is better than that mpc and what not... one thing to tell ya... it's the man not the machine.

as time moves on products change some have better features some features get lost, but the constant remains. Its creativity that triumphs.

  • DEEP!

  • The 60 is better and the 60 II loses??? Someone doesn't know their drum machines. The source code remained the same until Akai double-crossed Roger Linn after the MPC 3000. The code lost the classic swing feel and looseness. ( FYI: I actually am the one who introduced the 60 and 60II to Battlecat. And actually got him using MIDI). That's when the MPC series started its death plunge.

Cat and Quik, two of the DOPEST producers in the union, not just on the West Coast.

    MPC3000 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • everyone knows the 60 mark one is better than the mark two. the II looses all the roger linn goodness. stick to making beats dude.

  • Check 4, Beats by Wallace Green

  • SP-1200 = 12-bit sampling with 26,040 hz sample rate -- it can not be emulated. Read more in the OFFICIAL SP-1200 BOOK.

  • @drumatic alright i'll do some research on the 1200 and will get back at you, peace

  • CAN ANYONE ANSWER THIS FOR ME?????? WHAT'S BETTER, MPC3000 OR 4000?????

  • @01hezekiah

the 3000 and the 60 are the best soundin mpcs

    4000 has the most functions

the 5000 is fukked up n riddeled with faults its really a 3500 but akai called it 5000 just to get sales, streer clear of it, its broke n akai never will fix all its faults.

the 2500 is the best new mpc n id say best off u go with that, if u want 12 bit sp soundin drums get a bit crushin sound moduel n rout ur drumz out to it.

the 1000 is ok a bit flimsy but jj os givz it 4000/2500 features

  • @ceetheproducer thankz for the info....but you dont like how the 4000 sounds?? holla back at me

  • @01hezekiah

ive owned most of the mpcs includin the 4000 yea i like how it sounds its slightly more gritty then the newer models its simalar in sound to the 2000 which is really the bench mark mpc, its the standard in the mpc world really n its what most people use, the newer models dont really have there own sound kuz aki kept strivin to make sound quality better so the upgrade to the 2000 the 2500 sounds to clear n not as nice to my ear, to 60(1and2) and the 3000 sound the most gritty.

  • @01hezekiah

but u'll find it hard to make music on the 60 it dose not have much sample time you have to play samples into it speeded up then sequence in half time to get a decent amount of sample time, same really with the 3000 to be honest they sound great but there old n difficult to use by todays standards.

if you want a bit of grit to ur sound but lots of sample time n a machine that fast n easy to use that you can bang out track after track then get the 4000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ceetheproducer i've talked to a few about this issue and most seem to say what you just said in your last comment. things are getting alot more clear now...

  • /watch?v=ypGMS3E-Bfs

this is something i made.... please give feedback.... if you listen to dj quik's music sure you've got sincerely good taste ;)

  • Damn I want every machine he speaks about! SP1200 is magic... why can't we make our machines LESS powerful. I want to sample in 12bit 25k.

  • the MPC 3000 & the 1080 series shaped the West Coast sound

  • @MrDirtdevil91 whats 1080?

  • asr-10 all day

  • The MPC 3000 is like my right hand...and I'm left handed LOL

  • @Ogizzie me 2 ! lmao

  • AsR 10...

  • vintage

  • DJ Quik,

you always been an Eloquent Black Cholo, genius Producer and gifted writer, do another House of Music album - last Summer - get the Tony's to get along and make real Soul music

always felt you True up the way Star

    Peace - JD

  • WORD

  • Comment removed

  • that 3000 looks hella clean

  • With the MPC 60 with the 3.1 upgrade you can compress the sample down to 12bit/20k, but cause of the converters its still not gonna sound like a sp 1200.

  • shit was so deep i might cry

  • mpc 3000, 60, 2500 they all rock. NI Maschine is cool too...the whole sampling approach to make music is just what makes people wanna work for hours...keeps u motivated ... like he said...it's an instrument to express yourself...

  • Maschine is stupid imo, its nothing like the MPC i.e: you cant just hook it up and get it to output sound on its own, it has to interface with its own corresponding sampling program! Gotta say theres more to producing/ sequencing/ music than sampling, I mean in hip hop too. I know peeps that just sample shit, they cant do fuck all else but theres so much more to it lol...

  • well they saved cost by having the computer do the heavy lifting - and have the sound and muscle come from there...yes i know a box that doesnt need anything is ideal - but a maschine has more tech than an mpc 5000 - so i guess that's the only way to make it affordable... - what scares me most with computers and software is more points of failure...boxes very rarely fail ... Maschine is as close as it gets - but at the end it's always about the artist- these things are just tools...

  • @djdiscomikki Maschine wasn't meant to be or replace an MPC, its another tool to make music, period! Fools, need to stop comparing it to the MPC. What's cool about it is you can use Maschine as a plugin in any daw or as a stand alone to record a full production. With the ability to use vst in Maschine coming in the next update is a great option for many. I own a MPC 2500 LE, Roland MV8000, Yamaha Motif and Maschine, which all sample, but I rarely sample. Each has it's own sound and usability.

  • @teacee Stop getting so defensive mate why you calling me a fuckin fool?! I wasnt comparing it to the MPC I wasnt just making a point because some other person was making it out like maschine is way better than an MPC. And I wasnt dissing people who sample either, Ive sampled loads of stuff in the past, vocals, chord sounds etc. I was just saying that lots of people call themselves producers but all they know how to do is sample something and put it over a beat, people need to be versatile!

  • @djdiscomikki First I'm not getting defensive lol, secondly if you read my post right is says fools with an s, which is plural meaning more then 1, and its just slang for people or dude, (a westcoast slang) and thirdly you said and made your point and thats al I was doing, so chill out and respect my point. And I never said you dissing people, thats your opinion that people need to be more versatile, whether I agree or not.

  • mc 8 is a crip? from where? i thought he claimed crip for the movie?

  • he from tragniew park..supposedly

  • The reason that he mentions the MPC60 "TWO" is because this was the version that had a few alterations on it. The main one being that there was a software fix of a known bug that corrupted loops and edits.

It was a bone of contention for many producers for a loooong time then AKAI fixed and so peple DO differentiate it by stating the MPC60 Two or Mkll or V2.0 or whatever.....but that's why!!

  • Got this DVD its ace an am lovin tha tune in tha background!!! DJ Quik rules!!!

  • talk less, play more ;)

  • What I didn't get is Quik's repeated mention of the MPC60 "TWO", as opposed to the original MPC60. Aside from the external case, the ONLY difference between the two machines is the addition of a HEADPHONE OUTPUT on the II. Otherwise ---sonically and functionally--- they are IDENTICAL machines.

  • He probably mean the MPC 60 MkII (version 2), just a different way of sayin it

  • allstar720 what are you talking about? all the machines he mentions are still used today in hiphop and were most likely used to make all your favourite hiphop tracks of the last 20 yrs!!

  • im sorry was that the sound of somebody being a bitch?

  • Hes was a blood dumbasses

  • man- u gotta love those aliasing frequencies on the sp1200

  • what track is that playing in the backround?.....i know it might be a dumb question but i never heard it!

  • Lol.... "It's like my right hand.... but im left handed"

  • haha im left handed too

  • DJ QUIK IS A GENIUS

  • goood interview!!

  • Dj Quick is a fucking genius!!!

  • now i know im a music geek because im looking at that mpc in awe like those fast and furious kids do when they see a stickered up car

  • what? JUST BECAUSE QUIK CAN SPEAK WITHOUT SOUNDING LIKE A DUMBASS MEANS HE'S SOFT?

SO IN YOUR WORLD THAT MEANS OBAMA IS A "soft mofucka" too?

  • who said shit about the way he speaks? what the fuck are u his roadie? i said he's soft, no wonder Mc eiht was whoopin his ass. Mc eiht was beatin the shit outta dj quik. Damn niggas bringin up obama and shit, what does that have to do with anything. jump off quiks nuts

  • Your proving my point with every word you type

  • ur proving that u just wanna make a lame ass political point. why bring up obama as if quik and obama have anything to do with each other. i said dj quik is soft, my opinion. it the way he talks, in such a soft voice and demeanor, contrary to who he is on his records. what the fuck are you trying to say because im black every time i say something someones gonna bring up obama.

    jump off his dick

  • I'm defending Quik because I enjoy his music and respect his skills as a ,producer and recording engineer. It was also nice to watch a video from a hip hop artist that actually sounded intelligent. I brought up Obama because he is praised for being an articulate speaker and then you straight up dissed Quik for being soft spoken/articulate.

  • well the obama reference wasnt valid because i never brought up obama or quik being articulate. i was saying that he is very soft spoken and thats funny because he tries to act hard on traks and claimed to gang bang. i was just saying its ironic. geez people ever time a person says something are we gonna coin the phrase ''what would obama do''

  • Maybe Quik was in a gang at some point, but

It would be kind of stupid to maintain that lifestyle after becoming successful and well paid.I think most rappers portray all the thug stuff because it sells records not because it is what they do all day everyday. People should be encouraged to go beyond that stuff and aim higher. Young guys growing up feel they have to act "hard" and stupid to avoid being called soft or corny.

  • well yeah i just believe in acting thorough. im not gonna be an anti drug advocate and then u catch me smoking a blunt in the cut. same thing as somebody who acts gangster on songs and then when u hear them speak and the way the act u come to the conclusion they are soft. its all an image and that was my point, he isnt really like he acts like

  • I think some people are just great storytellers and whether or not it is their own story doesn't make the songs any less entertaining. I doubt any of the "gangsta" rappers did EVERYTHING they rapped about but they were the ones that had the talent to make the songs about it. I look at being a music artist being similiar to being a t.v/ movie actor, like in action movies some of the actors might really be martial artist's etc but it's still scripted and for entertainment.

  • Well said

    Respect

  • very well said djbriang

  • You're an idiot, DJ Quik is one of the few gangster rappers real OGs like T Rodgers vouch for. If you don't know who T Rodgers is, he's one of the founding fathers of the Bloods.

Not that any of this shit matters because it's all about the music but you shouldn't speak on things you know nothing about.

  • shut the fuck up, mc eiht was whoopin quiks little soft ass. u shouldnt speak on shit u dont know about. and quik is a crip.

quik is shortend from quick, he dropped the ck

  • lol did u call me a blackie dude? seriously havent heard that one in a while

  • he claimed to drop the ck for respect but a couple people from the hood his age claim he was a crip first then switched

  • i want his studio! ;d

  • ASR-X PRO

  • ASR-10

  • 'its like my right hand. and im left handed'

    great quote

  • Naw, unless thats what u been using since it came out, but the 4000 is the so much easier and lets u do so much more. I got 1 for 400 bucks and I sold that shit on ebay the next day. Its just outdated, unless u been using for years already

  • yeah real talk the mpc 4000 stomps every mpc on the market, no every sampler

  • Asr 10 4 EvEr...

  • phucc da asr. its all about da fisher price keyboard

  • supa cleaaaan 3k

  • mpc 60 is the shit. Strong machine!

  • wow,

    brilliant,

    "IT'S LIKE MY RIGHT HAND,....

    AND I'M LEFT HANDED."

  • very true!

  • REAL SHIT DAVE,THE 3000 RULES

  • any one knows what mixer is in the shot?

  • its the tl audio..check out thier website..its how quiks grooves that warm analog sound..the freesmasons (not sure if you're familiar with them--really good electronica--much more warm/soulful than most) also run everything through the tl audio...the tl is the perfect compliment to warm up electronic based stuff..damn i wish i could afford one lol

  • TL audio are acutely fairly shit & low budget. All the new ranges from the ivory up are crap. If your looking for valve warmth via pre amps or compression distortion thermonic culture & rupert neve piss's all over Tl Audio. Tl Audio is really overrated & only really had a good producted in the form of the first (Black) compressor & pre amps, after they got notoriety they start to take gimmicky cheap shit..

  • BTW the Rupert neve isn't valve based. But Avalon make great valve products that are far superior to anything TL Audio have ever done

  • um, I just want to hear Quik articulate on the pros of owning a mpc3000.. For those racists out there who think we don't know music, listen to this man..

  • Computer couldn't fukk with the SP1200 EVER...get that through your HEAD!!!!!!

  • @drumatic so you're saying that ever-increasing technology can't hold it's own against outdated equipment. I'm an old school head myself but I understand the concept evolution and adaptaion.

  • @matthewcrafter technology has shown us that newer is not always better. and you're going to tell me that there is a virtual mixing program or some software plug-in for prot tools that can even come close to acheiving the sound of a NEVE console? hahah you might be an old school head, but you definitely missed my point entirely.

  • @matthewcrafter the SP-1200 was made using the best electronics parts available with true analog filters like the SSM chips, which are no longer available and too expensive to reproduce. USA + JAPAN made electronics and samplers of yesteryear where CHINA and INDIA make 95% of today's musical equipment. All Akai products are now made in China. Cheap production, Cheap parts = Cheap sound.

  • @drumatic ill have to disagree dude, cmon thats like the worlds biggest bullshit on earth, how does that make any sense dude?????????? EVERYTHING ON FUCKING EARTH IS MADE IN CHINA. NIGGA UR SONY PLASMA TV WAS PROLLY MADE IN CHINA, IPODS ARENT EVEN MADE IN CALIFORNIA ANYMORE, CHINA. AND THE SOUND QUALITY ON IPOD HAVENT CHANGED. AND I KNOW U CANT COMPARE AN MP3 TO A MUSIC PRODUCTION EQUIPMENT BUT DUDE, U MUST BE 500 YEARS OLD TO BE THINKIN LIKE DAT..

  • @TheLoganHalsall you're obviously ill-informed. your lack of knowledge of global industrialism and such proves you're as ignorant as 90% of the rest of consumers that think mass produced parts made in China and India are of equal quality to parts made in the USA + Japan. Cheap parts are cheap parts. My SP-1200 was close to $5,000.00 when it first released in 1987. When it was re-released in 1997 they cut the price is nearly half by excluding the analog SSM filters.

  • @TheLoganHalsall let's not debate this on youtube. i don't want to waste your time or the people that are viewing this video. go do your research. garbage in garbage out.

  • @TheLoganHalsall Man....you dont know shit.

  • @drumatic gots to say Japan or USA on it for me. SP12, MPC 60, 3000, S950, ASR10... these classic machines were made WITHOUT hip hop in mind, meaning, they were genuine studio products. since manufacturers started making machines geared toward market demographics like that of hip hop or techno, shit went plastic (and Chinese) because they knew these new demographics weren't pros and they could get away with cheaper parts ( and sound). the old shit pounds, those who cant hear it, well..

  • @drumatic

    most definitely

  • I doub t computer program would ever sound EXACTLY like the hardware, sorry i'm a hardware man if you didn't know already. But if they made a machine that had all those modes that could get close to those classic sounds then yea they would fetch a pretty penny!

  • @NsOakland6 Don't you realize a lot of "hardware" is controlled by software, including the MPC, Fantom , Motif, Triton? It's about choices, and software will always have more abilities the hardware. You have software like pro tools, logic and Ableton than has groove templates such as the MPC and sp1200 and allows you to make your own grove templates, hardware you are pretty much limited in that respect, I use hardware and software, both software is advancing as hardware phases out.

  • Battery 3 samples on a computer samples in hardware its the same sound. Just Blaze uses Battery 3 and DJ Quik now uses Logic Pro a lot.

  • dude its all about audio converters with hardware. Also a MPC SP and so on are already computers, they just do 1 job instead of trying to do 20000 at once like a P.C.

  • LinnDrum II might be what you're wanting. I'm waiting on more info on its sequencer.

BTW, what do you mean by 4 different modes?

  • nice vid! RILEYBOY BEATS

  • i all wayz been a quik fan!
