I looked this guy up -- he's incredible. Pretty much the Carl Lewis of the masters track scene. Nonetheless, his competition should not be additionally hampered by tasteless officiating. Congratulations after the race over the PA system would be fine.
I did some more research and was pleasantly surprised to see that this guy is apparently a great guy and is not seeking limelight -- he led off rather than anchoring his 4x4 at Penn a few years ago. An enormous talent and a good guy. It's the announcer who is so damn inappropriate!

It is inappropriate for the announcer to cheer on a runner during the race itself. Why is this fellow not fired?

This guy is a great runner. The masters division is a little different then most competitions.

I don't doubt that he is great -- he beats his competition easily. But fair play is fair play, no? How do those other men feel about this?
