  • How is that Film working out for you? Do you notice any less heat loss via the windows?

I saw that film for sell for DIY, but it was too expensive for me, since I'm not sure of it's effectiveness.

I just installed some heavy duty plastic indoors, to add another barrier to heat loss.

Not easy to install, but they seems to be working well, but it's not real cold yet.

    To see the DIY, google:

"Indoor window thermal barrier (indoor storms)"

  • @Xringer Last winter was brutal but I burned about 3/4 of a ton of pellets less than usual so I know it helped retain heat. I have to add thermal curtains everywhere to finish the job. They help keep the heat out in summer too....

  • @MrEnergyCzar That's good news, if you only used a few tons of pellets. ;)

We have 100 sq feet of glass in our den, and our four 48"x48" Andersen sliders aren't that great.

But, I think the added plastic sheet makes them equal to a new replacement window.

We also have thermal curtains on all 100 sqft too. It helps.

For summer, solar screens work GREAT! Check out the DIY. Google "SunTex Solar Screen project".

Put then on the west side of the den and the results were instantly felt..
