  • probably q453

  • Do any trains pass on the other line?.

  • @CSX2665 Only a very occasional Florida Northern Railroad (Pinsly owned) runs north as far as Lowell and Candler to the south. They take shipments dropped off by CSX near the Ocala station to a very few remaining customers on each end of the run-down line.

  • @ElKabong75 yes over here on the a-line yard in rocky mount nc there is also a shortline that picks up cars from csx too, though i have not gotten to see the train itself.it is called the nash county railroad (ncyr as its reporting mark).I like this video is hot!.

  • I used to live near here in the early 80's and it got used 4 times a day...the Google map still shows it on the ocala map....I used to see F- units on it then... they also had a nice full yard south of the station...

  • That was Q613-15.

  • I was wondering the same think mkwel, I'd noticed the other track intersecting the on the train was traveling down looked pretty worn and unmaintained. I hope it's abandoned, or that's an acccident waiting to happen.

  • My hometown but don't know a ton about the line. BUT- the line is still actually used by FL Northern Railroad and the line extends a few miles south and ends near Candler. Only a few patrons still use the Pinsley owned line. The view of this shot looks south toward Candler, and the HQ for FNR is behind me about 2 miles. The Line has beeen in existence since at least 1870 or so judging by maps. The line previously went around Lake Weir and continued to Leesburg, but abandoned long ago.

  • Is that line abandoned or not? Whats the history behind it...looks like time has left it by.

  • @ElKabong75 Is this the same line that crosses US 35 between Ocala and Belleview? I went up there to see if there were crossing plates on there but I didn't see any.

  • @iceman977th - correct! the line with the signal in view runs through town and eventually close to Maricamp Road (and crosses on 35 just south of the intersection) out toward Silver Springs Shores, and terminates at a business near Candler. The line that the train in the video runs on is the S-Line and actually runs through Belleview and parallels a few feet away from 35, then continues on into Wildwood.

  • @ElKabong75 Thanks, I finally figured that out before I left. The other line is a spur owned by the FNOR i think? I'm guessing they do terminal switching for CSX on that line, and I finally found out why I couldn't hear trains on my scanner...had 161.1 locked out on accident lol. Heard about 5 to 10 trains this morning before we left to come home.
