  • How much?

  • Do you ship to Australia, and can someone tell me how much it is?

  • ships to brazil ? please answer

  • sorry for not buying from you swordsofmight, but I got it way cheaper at Athene.

  • This is a piece of Chinese crap.

  • The practical XL Katana has 1566 blade type, is this better that 1045, 1060 or 1095?

  • @TheIcemanModdeler yes higher number = great.

never buy swords less than 1045 unless you will ONLY have it for display or cutting very small objects.

for example 9260 steel is spring steel, high carbon stops somewhere, but Im not sure at what number.

check Sword Buyers Guide for some info.

  • @rogantu what do you mean by blade type? like length?

  • @stk931 no!

it is hard to explain because I do not know the details. let's say you have a katana from a cheap internet store, it is super sharp and got a nice hamon and everything, but then you cut a piece of wood and the blade bends, or the edge breaks. this would be due to too bad metal or bad tempering, but let's say it's from the metal.

if you had the same katana made from high carbon steel 1045 or 1060 or 1065 it would gone into the wood with little/no damage.

    that is what I mean.

  • @stk931 oh yeah also high carbon steel can get a super edge because it gets very hard, BUT spring steel is... well springy and if you hit metal or a tree very hard the spring steel katana might shake or bounce while the high carbon steel blade which is sharper and even harder could shatter because the energy has nowhere else to go.

the thing is the spring steel will turn the energy into bouncing, bending or shaking while the hard/brittle carbon steel could shatter and hit you with a sharp piece!

  • I thought it came with real ray skin?

  • Ok which is better? XL or XL light?

  • @howwie11 I think they are the same, just google both and get the sword buyers guide review, the speccs and end results are the same... weird

  • @howwie11 ah I figured now. light has cut some metal away at the back of the sword (can't remember what it is called!), but in old times it was used to draw blood away from the sword + make it lighter, so I'd buy the light one because it looks better, 6 bucks isn't much ;)

  • i am drooling i look all over internet for good katana and i was goin to buy a ryanswords dragon sword but this may have changed my mind....p.s. can you review xl light

  • It's TAPE!

  • i have a kind of wooden structure in my blade.

    is that normal??

  • I own a iato (traning katana, cheap and not sharp) and it looks exaclty the same as this sword´s handle. why is that, shouldn´t they be a little different.

  • Yeah it's thin... But it's the worlds greatest cutter, and plus Chinese swords have bigger width but there not thick at all, there like metal plated!

  • Can the tsuka be removed? I know that the older versions could not, but can this one?

  • do you know if this sword is full tang? i have searched internet all day and i find no information about that

  • @Auxxua0 I don't have any actual info to prove that it is full tang, but I would think it either is or should be based on the fact that this is a fully functional blade meant to be used for serious martial arts training and cutting. If they made a half-tang blade and claimed that as its purpose, I might be a bit concerned :P

  • @horrorfan13666 yes, full ten inch double pegged tang. hardwood tsuka core, tight fitting, and a bitch to remove.

  • @KihonNitenIchiRyu That's good to hear. I'm looking at purchasing the Practical Plus or something comparable in a few months - do you know if it boasts a similar/identical tang?

  • @horrorfan13666 okay i don't know what to suggest for you. if youre small and fast, i recommend the practical.

If youre into real fittings and dont plan a recustomization, then i would reccommend getting the real fittings. keep in mind with hanwei you pay for the steel and the fitting caps and tsuba, the handles are for shit, and i can honestly say so from experience as i've reworked several. the XL is fat and heavy, a lot of meat to this blade.

  • @horrorfan13666 the practical plus, is fitted with rayskin under leather. the blade is thin and swift, but depending on your target usage i would reccommend something that feels like you won't break it on the first swing. rest assured these are tough blades, but the XL was my choice due to the geometry, weight and overall feeling that i wouldn't break it. the prac and the p+ are respectively the same weapon.. just different fittings.

Overall the XL is the toughest blade in the practical line.

  • so... just when exactly is it "practical"?

  • @ishouldplayzelda My understanding is that this line of swords is meant to be economically practical, and that it's a great sword for the money you pay (authentic/antique katana run several thousand $). It doesn't mean practical in the sense of "all your cutting needs in one handy ancient Japanese weapon" :P

  • Please, it's pronounced ka-ta-NAH.

    -disfiguredcowboy

  • how come on new swords, the blade smells like roach spray?

  • yes, but is the metal strong enough to block with for katas?

  • would this sword be strong enough for heavy cutting? one review said it wouldn't because it's made from 1095 steel but on an online store it says it's made from 1566.

  • how many layers does that katana have?

  • piece of crap fake rayskin samegawa

  • its to thin. Its more of a ladys sword.

  • @greencircle86 Well if you don't like it, get yourself a chinese sword. Katana is supposed to be thin.

  • Depending the purchasing place

  • how much would one of those cost?

  • i thnk your confused on what the xl means on this ....

  • do you need to oil katanas about every day

  • depending if you used it or not, oil it after every use (cutting) if on the wall maybe like inspect it once a month to check if it needs it

  • Whats the difference between the practical plus and the Practical XL Katana? better quality in blade and cutting or what?

  • @Aibit654

I think its the bo-hi ...its lighter.

I don't know the diffeirnce with the practical elite's.

  • Have you ever removed the handles? I can't get it off it single pegged right?

  • @enshin81

It ain't easy to get the tsuka off unless you've already loosened it up yourself (which isn't necessarily a good thing). If you have a clamp, it makes it a lot easier.

  • SH6000XPF

  • good review !

  • hi has the xl light got fake rayskin two ? and whats the difference between the blades thanks.

  • I have boght the Practical Plus, from Hanwei thre days ago, it was a bit more expencive. I can't wait, to cut with one :)

  • how many necks whould this cut in a single blow? more than four is a awesome blade ....

  • @doldei i can say that it will go through ten milkjugs in one swipe. O.o equivalent is the triple tatami with a one inch dowel inside like it wasn't there.

  • okay as an owner of this sword i can say yes it

s big and heavy, twice as thick and durable as the rest of the hanwei line. due to its size and weight, it's awkward unless you know what youre doing. the blade is " four bodies equivelant, and will cut properly as long as the blade is straight on the cutting angle.

Perfect for a backyard beater. however, design flaws in the handle make it only as good as the dressing you rebuild it with. perfect start for those looking to recustomize a sword

  • how much would one of these things cost?

  • Personally I like the Practical plus for regular use.

  • ive had this piece since nov 08 , worth every penny. the blade is great , one of the best cutters on the market.

  • is the hammon real?

  • It is a real hamon that is enhanced

  • thanks bro :D juss ordered mine the other day and got it today it's hella sick!!!

  • Glad you like it!

  • @DocturMike hey man still got this katana? been 2 years so I just wanna check on the shape?

after calculating shipping this bastard ended up cheaper than the 100 dollar white katana I wanted so I'm gonna get it.

I just wonder what is your opinion and how did it hold up?

  • I'll see my XL in 9 days!!!!!!

  • alright, what is the difference between the practical katana, practical plus katana, and the practical XL katana?

  • Can it be a real hamon with a fake rayskin at the same sword?? I was expecting real ray skin also. That is a nice sword though and I was going to buy it but I don like anyting that is fake.

  • is the practical any good as well and could we maybe see a vid of jonis cutting with cuase stuck between getting the practical or the plus or a raijin folded katana? any suggestions?

  • i own the Practical Pro Katana and it is beautiful and great balance and VERY VERY sharp. I did some cutting with it on some milk cartons and I really swung hard and I shouldnt have.lol It doesnt take anything to cut with these swords. I swung very slowly the next few swings and it was like a hot knife through butter. I love it and all Paul Chen swords. I have 3 so far, and 2 Musashi. You can not go wrong with this sword.

  • How sharp is this out of the box? Own one of the Shinobi Paul Chen models, and it was sharp*ish* at best.

  • These are wicked sharp...

  • i own this sword' amd its a great cutter too' i got many (aka) real katanas' but this sword cuts as good as da rest of them!!! i use it in my shinkendo school comps sometimes!!^^

  • sorry about that my friend is retarded he wrote it twice

  • i personally was born in okinawa and i was tought how to use the katana there but i used a sword that was given to my granpa he got it as a gift during ww2 it was dated to the 1600s but since u dont have one of those get a musashi its way better

  • i was originally born in okinawa japan when my father was in the navy now im 15 and live in pa but the fact is that i was tought how to use a sword while living in japan and i know for sure that these suck because i used my grandfathers gift sword which he got from the locals during ww2 and it was dated back to the 1600s and if u want a good katana get musashi

  • hey swords of might, I'm trying to buy exotic katar from you're web site but i don't know if they'll allow it to Australia. Can you like reply because i really want one.

Whats you're opinion would they allow it in? yes/no

  • Unfortunately we do not know your country's laws. We do not ship overseas anyways though.

  • Certain parts of Australia (Victoria for one i think) require a license to own a Katana.

  • and i got it woohoooooo

    its practical XL light version

    what a beautifull sword

  • yay today im going to buy it

gotto wait 5 more hours till i meet my sword dealer woohoo

  • haha watching this i just wanna swing it

  • whats the website that you bought it from?

    nice sword!

  • swords of might

  • I recently bought this sword, I've yet to cut with it. Glad it's got a good review.

  • swords of might can you do a review on the cold steel katanas

    thank you

  • and can you answer a question is this a better cutter than cold steel katana

  • In my opinion, yes.

  • i just swa the cold steel promo vids and thats some good strength, cutting power and flexibility

  • Which sword?

  • cold steel O katana

  • We are trying to do as many as possible.

  • Yes. they have a wider blade.

  • great sword. I recently purchased the Paul Chen Musashi Miyamoto Daito:)

  • dude i need a big of help... i messed up a bit i was doing a bit of tami and forgot to clean it! its got a bit of fucking rust on it and very light scraches on it from when it went into the wood. how can i get rid of the small rust and does it normaly have light scrachs on it after a lot of use?

  • The best thing to use for light rust and surface scratches is metal glow.

  • thanks

  • I almost bought a PPK XL but then a PC Bushido

was available in mint condition so I bought that instead - these huge mat cutters from PC

along with the cheness SGC are not needed for tameshigiri - its a marketing gig only - a misconcieved idea that to cut you need a wide kotetsu style blade - not true, you dont need a blade 38mm wide to cut tatami - just look at james williams from Bugei cutting vids on youtube - he uses a 31"/15" dragonfly thats only 32mm wide at motohaba.

    Buy a bushido

  • This is true, but these perform much better for cutting 12+ mats

  • how are you going to sell sword? after the sword bans only to martial art users with proff of membership?

  • They are only banning swords in Britain...

  • correction, there banning katana's and i think some others, but you can still get other types in the UK

  • not if your a practicing martial artist, then you can still buy em.

  • yeah i found out, thank god eh?

  • sorry to be commenting again on the same video (i dunno, it annoys some people) but if they upgraded this to a more nicer presantation like others, such as better packaging and better tsuka wrappings (real ray skin and cotton wrap) then i would get it in a flash because your right the blade is amazing

  • Buy the Practical Plus then and you will have the real rayskin and good tsuka ito :)

  • yeah i know, but the blade isnt the same is it?

  • No, it is better balanced I think

  • i dont like this sword that much

  • It is great for cutting, but it is not for everyone.

  • i agree with Seven, while i'm sure it is a very practical sword (hence the name) i dont like its presentation ( i know that makes no difference to the working of the sword, but i just really like nice presentaion) plus it doesnt come with a maint kit like other PC's

  • I agree

  • awsome :D
