So sad, I heard the planes crash and saw the small plane go down like a toy airplane. Me and my friend walked near both planes. I now wish I never seen the destruction it was horrific......Every person died in both plane crashes.
@TheSlopB0X I wasn't alive, my mother was though. She lived not too far either. She said it sounded like an atom bomb going off. I've always wondered why she has hated flying, then I learned about this, and now I know.
@TheSlopB0X i remember this well also..i too was only 11 when it happened, and lived in Buena Park at the time...this incident had impacted many in communities all around Cerritos, where i lived the smoke was heavy and so close to home....(i lived on the LA county/OC border portion of BP )...it was heartbreaking and very very much in minds daily for a long time...
0:11 "the plane was not all that high in the ground"
an unfortunate slip of the tongue...

Where did you get that video? I was wondering because I had the same footage on a vhs tape that I got rid of accidently a couple of years ago.

@checkerboreds My Grandpa recorded it off the TV when it initially aired back in 1986.

Was it true that the Piper pilot ended up hanging in the tree of the elementary?
shadowhunter388 11 months ago
@shadowhunter388 Nope. All three people in that plane were still in the plane when it crashed.

@feldschpah big number ..very sad, I live two miles from the site.
I will be at the memorial in august for the 25 year anniversary.
It's a wonderful two wing statue outside the cerritos center.
I rode my bike down to the crash site about 30 minutes after
it happen. I was 11 years old (now 37)
I will always remember everything I saw that day.
Hard to believe 25 years have gone by.
Thank you for the reply my friend.

@TheBassguy1 Same with my mom except she was out of town during that time.

So how times did she actually hear an Atomic Bomb go off to compare the sound the crashed made?

@robsep51 It's a simile.

I cannot believe how the media used to be allowed to be able to get right into the crash area. They can't get away with that now.
