  • I love this version of the song! I like the song, period; but this version of it sounds the best because it has that back home, small church in the woods-type feel to it. If you didn't grow up going to church or you are not from a rural area, you probably won't feel where I'm coming from. Every time I listen to this song it sounds like the first time I ever heard it!

  • i song this on the choir when i was young

  • now that i have heard john sing it, i can hear that "kee" all in it.

  • john recorded this first

  • WOW This is vintage!!!!!! I love this song! My in the morning....

  • I love this song, it's definately old school, but when we sing it at our church we have a good time in the Lord!!

  • Song written by V. Michael McKay. 1st recorded by John Kee. Then by Art Jones & Florida Mass. Da drummer is wicked.

  • That was the anointing at work before we knew what the anointing was! lol!

  • Whoever playing them drums, they are killing them drums!

  • jesus is truly mine amen Glory be to GOD

  • This song was first originated with the Florida Mass Choir!

  • Florida mass recorded this song after John

  • That's Right!

  • Comment removed

  • @professorkbt ...this song originated with JPK...he is given song arranging credits on FMC,s album. FMC picked the song up because JPK and NEW Life were touring with them for a while in the mid 1980's .....I saw them in Tampa

  • @professorkbt This song was first originated in the Black churches; we used to sing it long before John P. Kee recorded it or before Florida Mass.

  • @professorkbt .. FMC recorded after John. John wrote and recorded it about 5 years earlier.

  • love it

  • I remeber we use to sing this song at Greater Hope Holiness church in McKinney,Texas. This is the same church Quindon Tarver came up in he is on her singing. We use to have so much fun at choir practice seems that something has been lost @ some churches. It is time to return to the songs hat up lift Jesus instead of trying to always lift ourselves. Return to true Holiness and I aint talking Denomination...................... Praise Him

  • He's Mine!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!! This version is wayyyyyyyy hotter than Florida's

  • The Memories!!!!...I love it!!

  • I remember this too!

  • So who recorded this first John or Florida Mass?

  • John first

  • Actually Galilee Baptist Church Mass Choir out of Houston along with John P. Kee singing the solo recorded this first. The Florida Mass Choir recorded it a little later.

  • no it florda mass choir 1985 john p kee 87

  • You're Wrong

    John 1986 Flordia 1987

  • Believe me, I have both recordings and Galilee Baptist Church Mass Choir released this song in 1986 and in 1987, Florida Mass Choir released "Jesus Is Mine". I know most people think Florida Mass Choir did it first because it's the most popular or remembered version, but Galilee Baptist Church Mass Choir did release it a year prior to Florida Mass Choir. Not only that, Galilee Baptist Church Mass Choir originally recorded "No Greater Love" on their '86 lp which GMWA Mass Choir released in '87.

  • @cre224 - mymusicvideos1991 is correct. John was the first to record this. Now, back then, there was a bit of controversy as to who actually wrote it (talking about this version... the modern arrangement). I believe that it was Donnie McClurkin. John even mentions that in another recording later, saying "Donnie wrote a song....not too long ago" (referring to jesus Is Mine). I forget on which song he says that.

  • @RCMCPREZ Yeah that's from the song Yes Lord, Wait He was talking about donnie mcclurkin?? when he said donnie wrote a song, how did you find that out!?!

  • @mymusicvideos1991 There was already talk about John NOT being the arranger of it. A friend from NY who joined my choir in NC was the first person to mention that John was taking credit for Donnie's song. Then, I heard it from others. After that, "Yes Lord" came out with that "Donnie" comment from John, himself. But, I didn't care - John was a great teacher and arranger and an anointed workshop leader. If he didn't actually author the new arrangement, he certainly made it popular!

  • @RCMCPREZ YES SIR !!!! JOHN WAS THE FIRST !!!!

  • I spoke with the co-writer of this song and he Florida Mass actually stole this song and recorded it after John sung at some concert with them. It is sorta obvious because it's in Johns very recognizable style.

  • OMG!! i grew up on this song.we still sing it in my choir..and I'm only 15. thank you so much for posting this!!

  • I use to love this song when I was younger!!! LORD JESUS I MISS THE OLD DAYS!!!!

  • Jesus is mine! I don't mind sharing tho. Lol! I'm so glad Jesus is mine. He's all over me,in my mind, and my heart. I can feel Him in my hands, I can feel Him in my feet. He's down in my soul. It's something about Jesus that just won't let you hold your peace, won't let u sit still, make u want 2 take off running. The awesome anointing power of God. Hallelujah! Praise God!!!! Blessings! ~Luvlivn4god~

  • Colino301, you are sure right! He takes and song and gives it to God and then it's blessed! This is a old school jam, that I know every baptist choir has rocked! Old school gospel at it's best!

  • Nobody sings like John Kee, I don't feel he has ever gotten the credit he deserves.

  • exactly

  • I agree NOBODY does it like John P. Kee ALOT have tired but there NOTHING like him!!!!BUT I disagree on the credit he's known as the Prince of Gospel!!!Everybody knows the King is Rev. Clevland, and the Prince John P. Kee!!!!!

  • This is the joint! We used to sing this in the children's choir!

  • I had forgot about this song. Suddenly I started singing it out of the blue.

  • Thank You for this!!!! I've been looking for this for over 20 years. I had it on cassette tape in 1986 and could not find it or the choir he performed it with. I just knew that this song and "No Greater Love" was on the album. What stands out the most was the drummer on this cut. Once again...thank you, thank you and thank you.

  • Completely agree! This is an incredible post. The rest of the cd is excellent also. I wish someone would post it. But nonetheless God bless you....and thank you so much.

  • the florida mass choir recorded it first in the mid 80's

  • This was recorded two years before flordia mass

  • o i thought florida mass recorded it first.

  • Classic, used to sing this on the youth choir back in the day!

  • what album is this on???!!!!! I NEED AN ANSWER!!!!! I...GET...THIS...ALBUM...TODAY!!! because i already have the yes LOrd album for over a year now(great album) and i already know it's not on there....

  • Its OOP

    (out of print)

  • wow...thats messed up...now i am upset...

  • No it's not on the Yes, Lord album, the poster just put that up to have a picture up with the music I guess. The artist is Gaililee Baptist Mass Choir, the name of the album, Running For Jesus, released in '86. Kee only appears on 2 tracks I think, Jesus Is Mine being one of them. The album has long been out-of-print. I was lucky enough to obtain a copy of it, but you can try searching for it, it's a hard one to locate, good luck :-) !!

  • Thats Tracy Phillips one of the great drummers back then in the late 70's and and 80's.He was the best drummer around back then.He was with John Pee for a long time.

  • It's James Rudy Brown on the drums. Kee even introduces Brown when he does his drum solo towards the end of the song.

  • Our drummer and the our children's choir used to jam this old school gospel jam! Peace to all choirs that used to tear the building down in the Holy Ghost with this jam!

  • Thank you Thank you Thank you.....I have searched and searched for this recording without success. If you find Him singin with the GMWA....I Shall Not Be Moved..with Tina Morrison PLEASE post it. I used to have EVERYTHING AND THEY JUST DISAPPEARED. BLESS YOU

  • I have "I Shall Not Be Moved" and the original version with New Life Community singing it before GMWA, I'll upload it when I can.

  • Jland742003, I posted your request for John P. Kee's "I Shall Not Be Moved" on my blog, gospelmusicfillup . blogspot . com

  • When Larosa James of Greater Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago sang this song, it was a treat. I love this classic song. Thank you John P. Kee.

  • This use to be the cut. I never realized that John P. Kee was singing this song. We had moves and everything. This use to be the jammmm.

  • On this one yes, it was John P. Kee, on the original one with Florida Mass Choir, I'm not sure if it's Arthur T. Jones or not.

  • WOW! You took me back with this one. We used to march in on this one.

  • Classic. My current church used to sing this back in the day. Love it.

  • The choir singing this is Galilee Baptist Church Mass Choir from Houston, TX, with John P. Kee singing lead. This is from their album, "Running For Jesus" which was released in 1986. Other than John P. Kee singing lead the highlight of the song is drummer Rudy Brown.

  • thanks for the info, i wanted to know what year this was recorded, i had forgot

  • Another album highlight is another famous song, No Greater Love. John P Kee was introduced to Houston by the late Rev. Paul Jones "I Won't Complain". John P. Kee also did a lead with Phyliss Kennedy Taylor with another Houston choir that same year. New Community Baptist Church song called "You can make it" he later remixed the same song on the "We walk by Faith" album

  • That is another highlight from that album. Most people think GMWA Mass Choir was the first to r ecord that song but it was Galilee Baptist Church Mass Choir. What I didn't know was the tidbit about the late Rev. Paul Jones, thanks.
