No offense to anyone, but they really under-achieved with this Impreza. The Impreza used to be able to run rings around the Mitsubishi Evo, but now with this redesign, its quite the opposite.

I don't think the subbie could ever run rings around the evo, or the opposite. The old ones have generally equal performance stats, and the old evos were maybe even arguably more "track ready" than the subbies. The only reason it was gettting rings ran around it was the driver.

I know that there are lots of people that don't like the new look but I think the change is better it looks like a car now. I was able to recognize Subaru's far away beffore and I parked next to the 08 model last week didn't even know it was Subaru until my Gf said there is your car. I think that people will get used to the looks really soon it looks like a sleeper up close you would never know that that machine can take on some of the world best made cars.

Proud owner of WR blue 08 WRX. Fast, small and fun as hell to drive. Not as aggressive looking but WAY better in person, especialy up close. Test drive one before you nay sayers hammer it. Actualy I now find it to be WAY better looking than gen 1 and gen 2 imprezas. I guess I just warmed up to it...

Tell you what, i just got the 08 wrx 5 door in spark silver. drove down busy main street and the number of people pointing and gawking at my new subie was interesting. all positive, just before i got home a sedan pulled up 2 lanes beside me and the father turned around and got his kid to look over. one thing i can say, pictures do not do this car justice, the lines are sweet and i love the new shape.

If they did have to do away with the better version they could have capitalised on a limited edition final model and then started a fresh with this one under a NEW name. The Ford Focus was not badged the escort when it superseded it's previous equivalent in the late nineties and this is essentially the same situation. No wonder the majority of die hard impreza fans have given this a frosty reception thus far.

This is a great car in it's own right but should not carry the Impreza name. All the previous sucesors have been esentially the same chassis just with face lifts and tweeks to keep them fresh. This is a radical change. It would have been better if they produced this hatch version alongside something that better resembeled the original and brand it with a 'sub' model name like the Citroen Xsara/picasso for example.

Smaller means less weight. Which means better handling and acceleration. Besides this impreza isn't really much smaller then the last one. I used not to like the new look but its growing on me and the performance is much better and thats what matters.
