It seems forced and contrived because she's performing this song the way she would in the show. Acting is much more exaggerated in the theatre than it is in TV/film; it has to be so that the audience can actually see and understand what's going on on stage. When translated to other media it seems over-the-top. That's why.

Wicked is touring the US again and I just went to the opening show in my city a couple of days ago. I'd thought I loved Idina to death until I saw Donna Vivino as Elphaba. She doesn't have as much publicity as the others but anyone who has heard her sing will agree with me that she's up there among the best. I'm planning on going again before the cast leaves but I have precisely the same dilemma. I don't wanna get the standby.

Especially the belting at the end - the choreography and lighting were so great and really added to the impact of that last section when she stood centre stage and just belted right up to the back of the theatre!
